  1. Re: Character Creation Session report That is another option, yes. I'll likely try various options. Thanks for the suggestion.
  2. Re: A Few Slight Delays: Building a Hero System system and setting i'm watching and learning.
  3. Re: Character Creation Session report This is turning into a great conversation. Thank you all for your input. Here is what I"m currently thinking of proposing to the player. His character is actually a "magical brain" created by some long dead experimental magic user (which fits very well into my world.) The body he currently have was created by a master mind of mechanical operations using technology that has leaked into the world from another realm (if you are interested you can read this here. its #4 on the list). I think i will use the computer rules pretty much directly for this. His body will be controlled by him. But the body will effectively be an automaton. In terms of the world. There is not a lot places or people who can repair this body. One idea they have is that the Kobold trap master will be a mechanic who can repair him. The only problem with this scheme is that the trap master (while very smart) doesn't have the plans nor the knowledge to design such a creature. So likely this body will need to "evolve" or "devolve" over time as its repaired. The hardest part for me is balancing this character with other characters who'm in this world have access to equipement they buy with money instead of points. So I am going to spend some time studying the rules to and playing with the math to determine how I want the player to pay for this body to be handled. My current thinking is that everything in the computer should be paid for with points and that the computer will need a summoning or other pool of points to pay for the Body. Then the actual body he uses would be paid for by a combination of money based on a point value he has in his summoning. The only question will be how to balance the point cost of the summoning against the value of weapons and armor a normal character would get for free. Assuming that any familiarities, combat levels, and skills to use equipment would be paid for as part of the computer.
  4. Re: Character Creation Session report Yeah, these guys like to be small and hard to find. I need to have my wife give them a group name. She is great at coming up with names for stuff like that.
  5. Hey all, with all the changes threads and stuff i wanted to add some more regular news. I am now getting ready for the kick off to my new Fantasy Hero Campaign. I have been working on the campaign guidelines and world definition a lot (based on some past ideas) Last night we met to work on the players' characters. The goal of the night was to help people begin to explore how they can express their ideas in terms of the system. I have been telling them for months (during my current DnD campaign) that Hero System is going to open up the doors on character creation. They have really embraced the ideas al be it with a bit of speculation. So last night they came with their ideas and we went through the campaign's house rules. They have come up with the following ideas for me to help them with: 1. A 3' tall automaton created by a clock work mechanic 2. An especially short Kobold (even for Kobolds) trap master 3. A Dwarven circus acrobat martial artist thief 4. A Storm Wizard probably a human. 5. Aquatic Elven Wizard There is still one more player to get into the mix. But none of these folks are current Hero System folks. I hope that this campaign helps them understand its value.
  6. Re: Legendsmiths Considers: Genre Quick Starts you'd like to see I love this idea. I posted on this as well although not as well thought out as this post. Well sense I've ended up writing my own for Fantasy Hero I'd love to see that done. In fact I'd add content to it if it was desired. And I would not make them setting dependent. But at this point because I'm already heavily into my own Fantasy Hero quick start I'd be most interested in a redo of Danger International. You could even say it was "Bourne again." NOTE: I personally think it should not be called Dark Champions that name is tied to much to Champions IMO. On behalf of my Daughters who are 11 and 14 (Ninja Hero quick start) with special rules for making a (Naruto quick start)
  7. Re: Introducing New Players Bunneh, thanks for the input. That is in line with what I'm thinking.
  8. Re: Hero In Two Pages - Complete Steve, and others. based on the changes going on at Hero Games it seemed like a good idea to promote some of the tools being used to get new players into the system. This 2 pager of course is world famous by now. But it seems that with less money going into product development promoting the products you have becomes be the highest priority. Also, leveraging your community means using their awesome inputs. I'd recommend moving this somehow from the obscurity of a thread on the forums to a place on the site. Bunneh and Narf and guys at Hero Games. Is it ok if i put this up for folks to get at from my campaign site? To that I'll have to host it. Of course I'll put it where others can link to it as well. If I don't hear a "no don't do it" in the next week i'll assume its ok to put it up there.
  9. Tomorrow i'm hosting the character creation party for my Fantasy Hero campaign. So far I have been preparing for this for a while. I have the following: 1. 2 Page Description of Hero System (to introduce) 2. A copy of the Basic book for people to find things. 3. A web-site for all the house rules and guidance for the campaign. 4. Customized xls character sheet from the one posted. 5. Hard Copy of the HS Core books. Anything else you guys think are helpful for people new to the system to help them with character design? Note: everyone in this group has a lot of experience with PBRPGs. Dave
  10. Re: Ninja Rep to you. Thanks for the belly laugh!
  11. Re: Possible HERO System Supplement Kickstarters From Steve -- What Interests You? Steve, I have been currently running High Fantasy games and will continue to run a fantasy game for several years. I am wrapping up my DnD Dark Sun campaign this week and start my Fantasy Hero campaign next year. I normally spend $100-$200 per month on gaming stuff. I am willing to buy a subscription to content if someone could get to a solid pace of output. Even if this content production is fairly minimal. I am willing to buy most anything you or someone you recommend produce for Fantasy campaigns. I'm slowly buying everything you guys have had on the Hero store. I am willing to invest from time to time in other Genres. I love source books like equipment, weapons, vehicles, etc... Anything that has lists of pre-made stuff for Hero so I don't have to create it. One book I would love to see is a book of different builds of races and templates that represent the training of different fantasy backgrounds. Something much more involved than what is in the Fantasy Hero book. I'm willing to supply the builds I'm creating for my own campaign to anyone who wants to put this together. I'm willing to support product development for Hero System products in general. I am willing to minimally invest in the product an amount equal to the purchase value of the product. However, for the right concessions I'm willing to invest more. Something more than $100 wouldn't be outside with the correct incentives. Other than that I'm willing to personally put time in on a project to help get it along. Likely the best use of my time would be around the project management sense that is what I am the most efficient at.
  12. Re: Dark Champions I shall now hope for a kick starter.
  13. Re: working on encounter prediction software (for gauging balance) Good luck with the software. Once you get it up and running to your satisfaction and make it available online I'd like to see it and perhaps use it. I think it'll help me.
  14. Re: Religion and Faith Faith in a role playing system is somewhat abstracted by the rules. In any place by where you can effectively determine the likely hood of any outcome by understanding the mathematical model for success you erode the value of faith because the left brain can perform the evalutions and determine the most likely outcome. I would suggest that any Faith as we experience it would need to be a pure role playing experience. Where by a character presents a confidence and truth in the eventual outcomes that fits within their constructed faith. For example Faith in the Human Spirit. Faith in the natural processes, faith in a divine presence. I for one look forward to my next opportunity to play a fantasy character with Faith. The last one I played was based on a concept of an ascended personality. Much like an Indian Guru or such. His actions and reactions were based on an confidence that he and his allies would succeed at their tasks and would often work to persuade the enemy to give up or change their ways.
  15. Re: A Few Slight Delays: Building a Hero System system and setting Mouse, So far so good. The only feedback i have is that while the crunch is very cool it doesn't give me that sense of place, location or life. You might consider adding some more content on the world and its inhabitants. So far its all pretty bare bones.
  16. Re: The Elves are Dying Out I'd suggest a series of false beliefs about Elves in the current population would be in order. Things that are said about them... Also, because they are barren there should be something of fear in the population of whatever happened to the elves effecting people. Finally, I'd suggest a transformation in the local Heros and Gods. old Temples and stuff that are abandoned and discarded as belief in the Elves has faded with their populations.
  17. Re: Regenerating teeth When thinking of losing teeth. I have a particular character named Phish that comes to mind. A bare fist fighter turned arena combatant in a Dark Sun campaign that had a lot of old injuries. I'm thinking of how I would know if they lost a tooth, toe nail, or knee cap etc... Most of the time this is just body damage to an area of the body without specific injury tables to consult how would I know a tooth was lost. In addition the earlier quote of: "holy trilogy of Hero: Common sense, dramatic sense, and game balance. " I would evaluate the campaign value of any ability to determine if it should cost points. I think for me i'll just include regrowing teeth as a description of healing your mouth after a serious injury. Be the regeneration or aid. I'll have to consider the effect of scars, loss of teeth etc... on naturally healing. Thanks for the idea. Dave
  18. Re: A very useful online site/tool for your campaign I've been using OP for a couple of years now. Its got a lot of utility if you want to put up information. I'm working on my FH campaign up there as well.
  19. Re: Clothing, Armor and PD/ED Are you asking what happens to their pd or Ed? I think the answer you are looking for is: You reduce their current pd and Ed by the amount granted by their armor.
  20. Re: A Few Slight Delays: Building a Hero System system and setting I likely will just link to your site. Much easier for me.
  21. Re: A Few Slight Delays: Building a Hero System system and setting For me this is a living project. The goal for next year is to define enough of things to make the world feel big. Leaving enough open that I can explore as time goes on the world. I may borrow stuff from you.
  22. Re: A Few Slight Delays: Building a Hero System system and setting @Narf The Mouse I'm going to favorite your campaign and keep watching this thread. I've been working on a similar project although I think for me its my first go and I'm taking on a slightly more story bent approach. However, you can check it out here. The WIKI navigation isn't all that tight yet. So you might find the project history on the campaign home screen helpful in finding stuff as well. If you see anything you'd like to borrow or whatever feel free to do so. Its all there for people to use.
  23. Re: Dark Champions Steve, I didn't see this on the 2012 schedule. Can you give some thought on this? 2013 or is it off the table?
  24. Re: Force Dome I'd still like to see a writeup from anyone on the power. Sounds very useful.
  25. Re: Buff from kobold god, to aid kobolds I thought kobolds only survived through team work in the first place.
