Kevin Conroy was Batman the way Jeremy Brett was Sherlock Holmes and Devid Suchetg was Hercule Poirot. They became so definitive that when I think of their roles, these are the images I see and the voices I hear.

And I can't help but imagine Kevin having the afterlife version of a cuip of tea with Mako and Tony Jay.

The top level of F1 is all about the Constructors Championship,  Unlike American racing divisions, there is no standardized car just some general guidelines. The skill levels of the drivers is only relevant when things are equal or when certain cars perform better at certain tracks to equalize things. Hamilton and Mercedes have been the best car and team for most of the past decade. ( No slight to Verstappen, but if last year's championship had happened in America, the lawsuits would still be raging.) This year Red Bull just has far and away the best car design. Ferrari was close but was too prone to mechanical failure and Mercedes had an off year. The rest are playing for an odd victory or two but mostly for third places and spots on the bottom of the podium.

I rarely miss an opportunity to watch that. The grace and athleticism, combined with a brilliant artistic concept, make this a really special clip. It's like listening to Louis Armstrong in his early prime, with his unbelievable purity and clarity of tone, combined with a singing style that defied and overcame previous expectations of what recording artists can/should do.

The Nicholas Brothers, Fayard and Harold. Two of the greatest dancers who ever lived, as well as trained acrobats. Daredevil has nothing on these two when it comes to agility. In their later years they taught dance to Michael and Janet Jackson.

This incredible dance number is from the 1943 movie, Stormy Weather. The actual dance sequence starts at 1:43, but if you jump ahead you'll miss the performance by the legendary Cab Calloway and his band.

"As far as I am concerned you can destroy whatever you like. You can stir up a thousand revolutions, you can wade in blood up to your armpits. Oh, and you can lead the rabble to victory, whatever that might mean. Just so long as there is an end to it. When Star One is gone it is finished, Blake. And I want it finished. I want it over and done with. I want to be free."

If you thought that was darkly poignant, take an ear to this. The same legendary artist.

I don't want to see Tua play again this season. His injuries the last two weeks, and their cumulative effect, are terrifying. This provides another reason for responsible parents to tell their sons not to play football.

God, this is sickening. The concepts associated with race -- skin color, eye shape,, height, etc. -- are meaningless when it comes to moral worth. TThat is, except in the eyes of men like this.

Let me repeat this, as it's very important. Race is a nonsense concept. It is utterly meaningless when it involves human character or ability.

That's all I'm going to say. I have my own opinions about the use of "race" as a concept in D&D and other fantasy games, but they can wait for another time and setting.

Take this as a sign from God that using up all that perfectly good land as torture fields is not going to fly with God.

Just saw the Legend of the Lone Ranger for the first time. And that is bad. So bad that the lead actor never made another film and neither did the director. Jason Robards who was established was exempt from anything happening. Christopher Lloyd was a bit restrained as the bad guy but really did nothing wrong. Michael Horse who played Tonto went on to do better work notably in Twin Peaks and the X-Files.
The film suffers from trying to do too much with the origin story and takes too long with it. The ending also feels a bit rushed. It does not help that the actor played the Lone Ranger was dubbed.
But what really hurt was banning Clayton Moore who played The Lone Ranger from doing signings or appearing in costume as the character. This generated really bad negative publicity and did the film in.

(In case anyone wonders, that's from Michael Apted's documentary Bring on the Night, about the recording of Sting's seminal "solo" debut The Dream of the Blue Turtles.)

Star Trek's LeVar Burton to Receive Lifetime Achievement Emmy Award

"If I had a mission statement for LeVar Burton Reads, it would be to remind the Reading Rainbow generation how important reading is in their lives, and their imaginations," Burton says. "I guess more than anything else that's the message that I want. I want people to engage with their imaginations, with these stories. Because, especially as adults now, you guys are adulting. I don't want you to stop using your imaginations because you're going to need them going forward. Because there's a whole lot of sh*t we're leaving for you to clean up. I'm sorry about that. I apologize, but I am trying to encourage some of the skills and talents you're going to need going forward."
