Re: the OP question as to whether or not bows should do less damage (for the Jolrhos Player's Guide specifically)

A Very Heavy longbow does 2d6+1 and has an 18 STR min. That, on average, will bounce from full plate armour's DEF of 8. An above average damage roll (or crit) I assume has just hit at "the right angle" to penetrate.

There won't be many of the populace with 18 STR though so the majority of longbowmen you face are likely to be light to medium bow users; 1d6 - 1 1/2d6, meaning that only the medium bowmen can squeeze 1 pip of BODY through on full plate if they roll maximum damage (or a critical).

To me, the damage therefore seems about right?

(I'm a big fan of the optional Bows vs Crossbows rules too; HSEG: Pg 32)

remember that this kind of armor does not cover everything perfectly, and there is an activation
so even a 14- will fail in time(the MacBeth and Adora sword and shield fight where won by strikes that got past the armor
the same is true vs arrows, enough tries and the armor will be bypassed or defeated

By their shape, use, and to me common sense, most arrowheads are armor piercing by design: they apply all their force on a very small sharpened point.  But if you do that, then plate armor has to be absurdly heavy or innately hardened (which seems odd) in order to protect the way modern testing shows.

you have never seen a broadhead arrow?
there are many types of arrow heads
hunting arrows are made to do the most damage to make the game animal bleed out quickly and not to move to far from the hunter
and as time has shown that there has always been a competion between weapons and armor where 1 tries to out do the other(look at tanks and warships vs various weapon systems over time)
watch the video above that  MrAgdesh posted
it even talks about military and game projectiles

    work smarter not harder
use armor piercing bolts or arrowheads or go to crew served weapons like balista

Very pertinent observation -- the era would make a difference. I think it was prudent for Steve and Darren to declare that the 1990s, when the Cold War was officially over, and after a traumatic national disaster, was the time that America signed on to UNTIL.

Perhaps it goes without saying, but outside of the United States the perspective is very often different. Here in Canada, for example, we have a long tradition of international multilateralism and collective action. We tend to view the American assumption that they'll lead any such action with, to put it mildly, irritation. ;)

    from the American perspective(IMHO)
everybody else wants us to lead the way

UNTIL: Defenders of Freedom indicates that they prefer to appoint commanders who will be well-received by the host country, which often means a citizen of that nation. Its not universally true, but its definitely "best practices."

I'm talking over all commanders like Eisenhower

@Beast, I know it would be a big stretch but for this What If. What if the U.S. agreed to UNTIL similar to how the UN watches over nuclear programs? UNTIL would have to have a Federal Liason at the very least.

@Ninja-BearUNTIL has a commander who is not an american that would be commanding american forces
during WW2 the theater commanders were americans and your probably going to have the U.S. putting up the most money, tech and heroes
So depending on how liberal/conservitive the U.S. is will pretty much say who is in command

If a hero with the power Stretching can stretch either arms 6" and he holds out his arms in different directions (thus 12" total), how much stretching should be gotten total? Is the 'holding out arms diff directions' just part of having the power?

get the "x2 body dimension"adder to have a wing span of 12m for 5 pts

    Stretching 6m, x2 body dimension

I was just looking at ild material and as most probably know, UNTIL was the original agency that dealt with Superheroes.  So I’m thinking what would change if anything in a typical Champions game if there was no PRIMUS, only UNTIL.

the BIG question I would ask the OP is
what is the U.S. government's position on other countries paramilitary forces on U.S. soil?

if it is just the same as if there was a SAT or PRIMUS, then it would just be special forces and state level police forces stepping up
    for me I'd say no

As does the U.N. make policy for the USA?

OK, player characters in my game are either members of the gentry, or members of the social class below them.

At the moment I am calling the lower class the Yeomanry. But what do you call the members of that class that aren't male?

Think Jeeves and Wooster, or less dumb versions of this.

What do you call a female"yeoman"?

    Or non-male, whatever.

    by their surname
as I portray 1 of the Yeoman of the guard I am addressed as Yeoman Mitchell( or Yeoman Beast)

  10. the 4 levels of SA are for adding to her Pre skills(poor man"s mind control)
the 12- activate is based on Jujituguy's call for anything above 20 active to be ego based RSR
Disguise is there to HIDE those 4 levels of SA as her hotness is concealable
multipower is on the table with exp
the sonic and extra str are things she does not know about and she is  mostly a dockworking slave at this point

    thanks for the spitballing

  11. so give me your thoughts
