  1. Great analysis! Yeah its definitely a flatter curve then I remembered. I graphed it on anydice.com and it is a curve, but definitely not a bell curve. I also forgot about the impact on CV disparity since we have been playing this way for so long. But yes, as your analysis shows, under the HERO 3d6, a difference in CV has a much greater impact on the game. I personally find this a feature rather than a bug though. In my experience, its easier to throw opponents of greater power at the PC's without them being totally overmatched. Conversely, it also allows me to threaten the PCs better with mooks and minions of a much lower relative power level. But certainly the impact on the game is more dramatic than I recalled. Nice work there!
  2. This can be true. Its why we roll simultaneously, instead of waiting for the attack roll to be calculated before rolling the defense roll. If you like the suspense of rolling to hit and then waiting to watch the defender roll, then yeah, you won't gain anything in terms of speed and things may actually be a bit slower as you say. I grew up with a mix of D&D and Palladium (extensively house ruled Palladium ), so rolling d20's and even opposed rolls are so fast for me and the people I game with that its never been an issue.

  4. Re: Ravenswood Academy Yearbook Very cool! It was a bit disconcerting at first to see real pictures. I expected art I guess. But you did a great job with that!
  5. Re: Comics you loved...but apparently no one else did I really liked the Spider-Man clone saga that came out about 10 years ago. I loved the Ben Reilly as Spider-Man costume design (which they later used for Spider-Girl), and loved the idea of a fresh new Spider-Man with all the classic powers taking the mantle from Parker without all the baggage Parker had. Plus you still have Parker around to give advice or make guest appearances. But no, all whiny fanboys moaned and *****ed so much that Marvel ended up doing a complete 180 and killing off Ben Reilly. I was so mad. That was pretty much the last straw that had me give up comic book collecting. They at least could have kept the Ben Reilly character alive and spun him off into his own book or something. I would have followed it. I liked the character.
  6. Re: DC veterans, help me pick current DC titles! The real trick is getting this past my wife. She tolerates my gaming, but she has been extremely vocal against me getting back into comics.
  7. Re: DC veterans, help me pick current DC titles! It only works out to a little over 10 bucks a week. Just cut back on eating out for lunch every day at work, and it becomes doable. Back in the day, I used to get pretty much every single title that Marvel had. It ran me close to 100 bucks a month. I had to quit once I became a full time college student and stopped working. Now, I am married and my wife doesn't really like it when I get big into geek stuff, so I'm trying to stick to only essential titles. Anyway, 52 is the DC special series that will come out weekly for one year and cover the post Infinite Crisis aftermath.
  8. Re: DC veterans, help me pick current DC titles! Ion sounds intriguing. That will follow Kyle Rayner after his power boost makes him the DC equivalent of the Silver Surfer right?
  9. Re: DC veterans, help me pick current DC titles! So I'm thinking: JSA JSA Classified Batman Detective Comics (Batman) Action Comics (Superman) Superman Teen Titans Green Lantern Aquaman: Sword of Atlantis Flash (?) Wonder Woman (?) Supergirl 52 JLA What else? Does that cover it?
  10. Re: DC veterans, help me pick current DC titles! What's the difference between JSA and JSA Classified? Just the title?
  11. So after a long hiatus from comic collecting, I am thinking of opening up a box again at a comic shop. All the Infinite Crisis stuff has me interested in DC. Since there are so many monthly titles and my budget is limited, I basically want to read only those monthly titles which cover current DC continuity. I'm not interested in series which only reprint prior story arcs or in comics that cover the Justice League animated series and so on. Nor, am I interested in month to month titles that only have self-contained stories and aren't connected to the broader DC universe. I want to collect only those books which directly tie into what is currently happening in the DC universe. What are those books? Please list the titles and if it is not self-evident from the title which characters are covered, please elaborate. Mostly I'm interested in the heavy hitters such as Superman, Batman, Flash, Green Lantern, Wonder Woman and so on. But I'll pick up a title such as JSA if it ties into the current continuity. So what are the core essential books and which characters do they cover? FYI - I have never really read DC before so I'm not familiar with many of their characters. I used to be a big Marvel guy, but the whole House of M and upcoming Civil War series don't really interest me. My budget is limited, so I figured I would just follow the main DC universe. And if you are wondering how this is relevant to Champions, well much of my supers campaign is lifted from iconic DC mythos, such as Krypton, Speed Force and so on.
  12. Re: Need help in translations Post the names in English (or even in Japanese) and we'll take a shot at them. My wife is Japanese so I can ask her to help out.
  13. Re: New Superman movie trailer with tonight's Smallville Right now, I kind of enjoy Lionel's character. I also like the fact that Jor-El can now possess him and use his body as a vessel. The season 5 episode about a month ago where Clark is mortal and gets shot and dies, then is resurrected by Jor-El/Lionel is awesome! The whole Clark as Christ figure thing they had going on in that episode was totally awesome! You have the father with the evil son who came first. Lionel and Lex. Then you have the same father Lionel (possessed by Jor-El) with the good son, Clark/Kal-El, who came second as the saviour. The good son dies trying to help people, and the father resurrects him with all his power. Probably my single most favorite episode of Smallville. The scene at the end where the resurrected Clark super-leap/flies up to the nuclear missile being launched to stop it, was awesome! I jumped off the couch and yelled "F$%^ yeah!!" My wife, who is not a gamer or sci-fi buff, just kind of rolled her eyes. She watches Smallville because she thinks Tom Welling is hot and she likes the romantic subplots.
  14. Re: New Superman movie trailer with tonight's Smallville The two parter with Clark as Kal-El using his powers to the fullest was the end of season 3 and the opener of season 4. Season 4 was pretty good overall, but other than the lame vampire episode, the current season 5 has been awesome! I recently went and bought the first 4 seasons on DVD. After watching some of the first season episodes its really easy to see how far the show has come. Though first season had some gems amidst all the freak of the week stuff. Just got done watching the episode where the fortune teller sees Lex's future and the horror of it kills her. Its awesome. She sees him as the president and then suddenly he is standing in a field of flowers. He reaches out to one with a black gloved hand and it wilts and rots away before his eyes. Then the whole field rots away and he finds himself standing amidst a field of skulls and skeletons. Then dark storm clouds gather and it begins to rain blood upon him. Awesome stuff!
