  1. Re: Fist!

    5th' date=' I believe.[/quote']

Yeah, kinda figured but wanted to make sure.

It's worth noting that this charter has a 31d6 Move Through...

  2. Re: Fist!

Is this 5E, 6E or some combination there of?

The 8d6 Shockwave seems like a power that will see very little action. Might be better off building as a naked advantage on STR.

I think the Magma Blood needs some additional advantages and limitations...

The Accidental Changes don't make any sense given the way the rest of the build is done. The Double 14- Enraged complications strike me as a bad idea as well...

Probably want Trigger on that healing.

    No skills at all?

A 7 OCV and 4 SPD raise an eyebrow as being on the low end, but I don't know what the game parameters are like, so that might be totally fine.

I personally don't like paying points to have a 150pt normal multiform that will, in all likelihood, be used as an Achilles Heal. However, if he primarily changes when he needs the puny brilliant scientist to save the day, that might work out ok.

  3. Re: Creepy Pics.

I think that it's an interesting development on an otherwise awful character - attach the symbiote to an injured war hero' date=' to be used as a black ops agent.[/quote']

Been enjoying this book, but then I think Remender is one of the better talents at Marvel today.

  4. Re: Avatar: The Legend of Korra

Oh' date=' I'm totally looking at it that way. It plays out like a serial and Amon is totally a Republic Serial villain.[/quote']

Not true! Do you seriously think he'd explain his master-stroke if there remained the slightest chance of them affecting its outcome? :sneaky:

  5. Re: Avatar: The Legend of Korra

I know Sokka got some more respect towards the end but it was a long time coming. Overall it still seemed in this universe you were a bender' date=' an exception, or background color. I can sympathize with Amon even if I don't agree with his methods.[/quote']

Well, the focus of the story is on Aang and his teachers, so it's to be expected.

But a lot of the non-benders were pretty awesome.

Master Piandao, Jet and the Freedom Fighters, June, Mai, Ty Li, Suki and the other Kyoshi Warriors were all pretty amazing fighters that easily held their own against very powerful benders. The Mechanist, Hakoda and the other warriors of the Southern Water Tribe are all non benders that were critical to the success in the war.

As for Amon, that dude's running a huge scam...

  6. Re: Avatar: The Legend of Korra

As do I. I think Sokka mostly got short-shrift in the original series' date=' where I was hoping to see him show that those without bending could still be important through character, training and perseverance. Instead he got to be comedy relief, or as I called it these days, he got Gimli'd.[/quote']

Well, he wasn't ONLY comedy relief. By the ed of the series, he was a brilliant inventor, tactician with a sword that could cut through anything. Plus we all have to respect that the funny and intelligent guy got all the girls.

When you really look at it, he was like the god damn Batman and King Arthur combined

I was saddened by what happened to him. Looking forward to more flashbacks that feature him though.

Also, people should read the Dark Horse comics "The Promise"

    http://www.amazon.com/Avatar-Last-Airbender-Promise-Part/dp/1595828117

Takes place right after the original series and helps fill in some gaps.

Part 2 is due out at the end of the month, Part 3 by September.

  7. Re: Take a Teammate to a Movie

Which movie does your character choose' date=' and why?[/quote']

Is it a date, date or are we just going to watch a movie as friends?

Because while I really love the 5th Element and the Princess Bride, they are both all about true love prevailing over the forces of evil.

That could be an awkward message to send to a friend that I am about to go face down death with...

  8. Re: Point Caps: Why are limitations inferior to advantages?

Very true. In a game where DCV's range up to, say, 15 and the typical attack is 12 DC's, it would cost 30 points to make that 12d6 Blast 1 area-accurate or 15 to make to make it the smallest AoE. Either would target DCV 3. For 15 points, I could have +7 OCV with that attack (2 point skill levels), probably not enough to completely negate a 15 DCV, but enough that a character with a typical OCV in the game would be pretty likely to hit. For 30 points, I could have purchase +15 OCV. Assuming I have my base 3 OCV, I now hit on a 14-, and have an even better roll for a target with lower than campaign max DCV. My AoE blast hits on an 11- whether the target has a 15 DCV or a 5. Which character is better?

But the one with the advantage is the one that will fail the AP Cap and even DC cap test.

True, but I've never been in a game that enforced a AP/DC cap that didn't also enforce a CV cap...

  9. Re: Bases

    Hi-

I was just rereading my 6E2 rulebook in regards to Bases and I am a tad confused about a couple of things.

    1. If you purchase things for a base (such as a 100 cp computer - adjusted to 20cp as per the AC/5 rule) do you then add the 20 cp cost to the total cost of the Base and then re-divide by 5?

For example if one purchased a base for 200 cp - which would ultimately cost the PC 40cp and he added a 100pt computer would the math be:

    (200/5)+(100/5)= 60; or

    ((100/5)+200)/5 = 44

    60. Price of computer is calculated separately from the base.

    2. In the example on page 191 under personel I cannot follow the math and it is irritating me.

It states that Defneder has spend 120 cp on his base then adds 64 agents built on 100 cps - costing 100/5 = 20, x64 = 30pts and some how this adds up to an additonal 50pts?

I cannot for the life of me figure this out.

    5 pt doubling rule.

    1 is 20 points

    2 is 25

    4 is 30

    8 is 35

    16 is 40

    32 is 45

    64 = 50

  10. Re: Gorilla Grond - from typo's are mighty heroes made (6E)

Updated the first post. Changes include:

    - Noticed that I forgot Paramedics, which was always supposed to be the sheet (they always had SS: Medicine)

    - Added in Brutus' cyber eye powers

    - Modified a couple of existing powers and added an Entangle to Brutus' MP.

    - Forgot that their computer enhanced brain should have Absolute Time Sense, so added that.

    - Added their Lab, super computer and a scientific organization that they work with (generic enough that it could be easily changed to something more campaign appropriate)

    - Tweaked the background info slightly

Also, I posted the PDF character sheet for Gorilla Grond with a single large VPP, instead of two smaller MP's.

This opens up a huge variety of powers for them to use, so long as they fit the overall techno-psionic brick SFX. This can include many of the abilities from the Cyberkinesis, Force, Mental/Psionic, Super Strength and Telekinesis sections of Champions Powers. Obviously, any Force, Super Strength and Telekinesis powers would be Unified with Brutus' Technokinesis, while Mental/Psionic powers would be Unified with Rex's Technopathy. The Cyberkinesis powers can go either way, depending on the particular effect. Superhacking and mentally projecting into the net lines up with Rex's power, while animating machines or spontaneously assembling gadgets out of spare parts is clearly Brutus' thing.

While I didn't explicitly spell it out as a limitation, my general intent is that they still split their pool points up as if it was two seperate powers. So they can't spend all 120 points on a single SFX (and of course no powers can go over 70 AP anyhow).

Oh, I also color coded those abilities that draw end from the End Reserve

  11. Re: Avatar: The Legend of Korra

I got so urinated when I saw CARS.

    Why's that?

They had battleships, tanks, submarines and massive propeller driven airships in the last series.

This one takes place 70 years later, after an lengthy era of peace, prosperity and innovation.

  12. Re: Avatar: The Legend of Korra

Saw the premier last month and episode three this weekend :)

I'm a pretty big fan of the original and was sincerely afraid that they might not be able to recreate the magic.

So I was quite pleased that it turned out to be a magnificent continuation of the previous series :)

  13. Re: Ants Antennae

We don't actually understand everything an ant's antenna do yet, so lets just say they are really important.

The antenna aid the senses of touch, smell, hearing and taste. And in the insect world, ants have a VERY good sense of smell/taste, as it's one of their primary means of communicating and understanding the world around them. They do not have very good eyesight at all. If you watch ants in close proximity, they are constantly touching/tasting each other with their antenna.

It was long believed that ants didn't actually hear sound, but rather detected vibrations, but more recent research has shown that their antenna aid them in ultrasonic communication. In fact, research shows that the pair allows them to accurately gauge speed/distance/direction of sound in what may be a short range form of echolocation. However if true, they still "hear" very differently than we do... ants appear to be largely deaf to normal human range frequencies.

In addition to all that, they also use their antenna to measure humidity, temperature and carbon dioxide levels, though these may in effect be extensions of of their specialized senses of touch and smell/taste.

  14. Re: Titanoboa

Realistically, they are just using their tongue to pull scent particles out of the air and into their mouth so that it can be analyzed by the Jacobson's Organ.

With taste/smell being so closely linked already, it might be mechanically easier to just say they smell with their tongue, rather than adding Range to Taste.

Would have to double check to see if I'm missing something though... it's an interesting thing to consider...

  15. Re: Titanoboa

Not sure if snakes "track" prey via their tongues. As I mention' date=' most are ambush predators and strike at whatever comes near them, as opposed to hunting something down. Saves energy that way.[/quote']

It's a rather well accepted hypothesis...

In my experience, all snakes can track using their tongue to one degree or another. This including pythons and boas, which I have raised in captivity. It's actually something of a targeting sense for them (the forked tongues allow them to more accurately gauge direction).

Here's a dramatized video of an anaconda hunting and then ambushing it's prey... probably not for the squeamish, so spoilered.
