  1. Your GM has announced he's going to run an alternate Earth game and he wants you to make a modified version of your character to fit his "Alternate Earth Setting. The GM is being deliberately unclear about whether you'll be playing your alt character or if your regular character will be facing them. So what is different about your character from World at War-Earth It's very little like real Earth because the World is at War since World War II no nation has been at peace for more than 10 years. It doesn't matter what nations are warring because at one time or another they all are and currently that includes the nation where you hang your hat. People are fighting about politics, religion, and economics and coincidentally at this time your nation is defending whatever your character predominantly defends. How does that change your character?
  2. Don't tell the Earl marshall but we tried a 10 pound mace, an iron quarter staff (a modified concrete breaker), and a 5 lb ball and chain. I can say all of them hurt more than the broadsword. Also don't try these things at home we were young and stupid and the women made us feel invincible.
  3. The ironic thing is our group has no problem with VPP for magic but we've ruled against them for our current game. We wanted to have a diverse number of "magic systems" rather than a single diverse system. As a result we encourage low level magic available to everyone at a high cost with a written magic system to describe what kinds of spells are appropriate to construct. As a secondary result traditional magic users are very focused on specific effects since it's too expensive to be diverse. So bottom line is players and GM have to agree on the feel they want magic to evoke in the setting.
  4. In our campaign we just use the encumbrance rules and we haven't had any problems. But then again we started with 50 pt characters and NCM in place so one or two hits can take a person down pretty quickly. Last session our great axe wielding tank (20 STR and Plate armor) was introduced to the glory of the military pick and the tide of battle quickly turned against us. Then again we're really enjoying the detail of a low point game and use the hit location chart all the time. Most of us are wearing armor assembled with the sectional defense rules though to maximize protection in vital areas and wearing less armor inless vital areas to keep the wight down below the 10% encumbrance marker.

    Agents vs Supers

it depends. Personally I prefer agents as a warm up battle for the bigger challenge. I do things like sell down agent's stun so they go down quickly and stay down with good tactics or blunt power. Usually these encounters are followed by a fight with elites who are more competent and require tactics and the use of power to take down. After this come the "villains" who require good teamwork and tactics in addition to power.
  6. Dead and Departed A duo consisting of a Mummified Corpse and it's departed Soul. I think the Ba was the physical soul and the Ka was the spirtual soul. I actually had a vilain like this. The Mummy was relatively dumb but pretty much unstoppable physically the soul could of course posses people, walk through walls, and astral project. But if they were together the Spirit part could cast magic using the Mummy's END reserve.
  7. I've been hit by blunt weapons in both plate and chain. If they are both well made there is no appreciable difference both allow bruising and both can result in your wind being knocked out. Trying to base something like this on realism is ultimately a waste of time since the very concept of Body and Stun are unrealistic (search the internet for info on how the human body deals with damage and you'll see what I mean). Stun and Body allow for gameplay; what rules you decide to use should be based on what kind of "game" you want to have.
  8. These are very genre specific guidelines you can call them foolish if you like but I don't think that's an accurate appraisement. If you want a more "follow the rules" type of solution to emulate the genre I'd say have all NPCs sell down their stun and have people use guns but don't have them take the WF so they are at -4 all the time. Now you can say. "those thugs are dumb why would you build thugs like that?" or you could say "those thugs are perfect they'll go down quickly so the players can get to the real challenge of the crime boss."
  9. I don't think these were intended to be a "realistic" option so much as a versatility option. It's the type of option that encourage people to use Normal damage weapons instead of Killing damage weapons. Now I suppose since bashing weapons are Normal damage instead of Killing damage more natural defense applies. If you really want an "explanation" for the plate's effectiveness against bashing I'd throw out "The concussive force of the blow reverbrates through your plate causing more disorientation (read increased amount of stun).
  10. The biggest obstacle to imposing limits as a GM is a person's desire to be fair but keep in mind if you weren't fair you wouldn't have players and/or those players will let you know that they don't think it's fair your responsibility as GM is to create a fun experience both for your players and for yourself not for one or the other but both. As far as the 5E magic examples on one hand they are a good example of how to establish a fair but ultimately arbitrary framework of limitations/guidelines for spell construction on the other hand they are as I said "ultimately arbitrary" each system is internally balanced and would be appropriate for certain settings but I wouldn't say they're all balanced against each other. So unless you can confidently make some decisions about guidelines and "feel" based on the setting they aren't going to help very much.
  11. I think the important thing to keep in mind is that there are times when this power construct would be appropriate and other times would it would be abusive. Derek's use seems okay but I'd have to compare it to a recoverable charge on an ablative defence. Alot of time this type of defensive entangle is an attempt to excede Defensive limitations in this case a GM needs to bring out the hand of smackdown and simply say "No, that's not the proper way to build that effect."
  12. Like all games a rule will only be as limiting as the GM lets it. Yes a VPP can be ripe for unlimited power but if you check the Fantasy HERO magic system examples you'll see that the GM is expected to place arbitrary limits on magic use. The key to a good magic system is a reasonable framework of expectations so the GM and player can work together.
  13. Traditionally Kenneth is from California but I think in this setting his family would probably be living in the Confederacy. Husky would have initially burst on the scene to maintain the status quo of segregation but slowly he'd start to fight the system becoming an anti hero of sorts defending people but defending all people equally.
  14. Your GM has announced he's going to run an alternate Earth game and he wants you to make a modified version of your character to fit his "Alternate Earth Setting. The GM is being deliberately unclear about whether you'll be playing your alt character or if your regular character will be facing them. So what is different about your character from Risen South-Earth The Civil War ended with a divided nation. The Old US is now 3 countries. The Confederacy a rural based economy with severly stunted civil rights. The Union an Industrial based nation most similar to the real world US. and California a nearly anarchist state filled with extreme ideas and a nearly incomprehensible government system.
  15. Kenneth: Oh my God! You're Husky aren't you! COOOL! What are you doing here? Husky: Ken keeps making these Clarkebots more and more convincing. Hey little buddy mind telling me why the lab entrance isn't working? Kenneth: Lab? Do you mean the Fortress of Huskitude is somewhere in my nieghborhood? Would you come to school and talk to me when other people can see you? Husky: I could but I think we should only do that if someone suspects we're the same person. Kenneth: Why would they do that? Husky: Okay I'm bored (changes into Kenneth) Kenneth: You look like me now! Kenneth (super genius): That's because I am you you dumb robot. (reaches for shut off switch) Kenneth: hey keep your hands to yourself! Kenneth (super genius): This isn't right I need someplace to think (transforms into Husky) Husky: well little guy I'm going to go get a beer so Kenneth can figure out what's goin' down. See you later. Kenneth: Wait...damn! I didn't get a picture.

    Super Pope?

You answered my question by saying you find it uncomfortable but just to clarify I'm not asking if you "stat out" or role play "God" I'm asking if "God" has representation in your setting. Just because the Pope has Super powers wouldn't prove that God exists after all it could just be a deluded Mutant or a conniving alien. On the other hand in a world so filled with super powered wonders wouldn't it be suspect if the big churches didn't have comparable special effects?

    Super Pope?

Well so do the Muslims but that same God seems to have several different opinions about things depending on who worships It.

    Super Pope?

So in your super hero campaign world does the Pope have Super powers? If greek gods and norse gods are handing out the divine super strength is the Christian god holding back? What about the Jeweish big guy? Is Allah sending a representative to the party? Now why or why don't you feel comfortable with contemporary religious superheroes? I've decided to empower the Pope in my setting and I was surprised by how taken aback some of my players were so I'm wondering about the similar experiences of the assembled Herodom.
  19. You return home from a day of superheroism only to find you are already there not the superheroic you but the civillian you. They know nothing about your superheroic life and all evidence implies they are you without superpowers. A) What wil your superhero self do? How would a civillian version of your character respond to a Super showing up at their home.
  20. Kenneth is an average kid in a world of supergeniuses. People condescend him all the time hopefully with all that brainpower someone would attempt to augment poor Kenneth and make him "normal" the serum wouldn't work as planned though and instead Husky would be created a savage hulking behemoth of strength he would be a furry Hulk/Grond rip-off who tests the best minds of the Earth with his shear animalistic nature.
  21. Your GM has announced he's going to run an alternate Earth game and he wants you to make a modified version of your character to fit his "Alternate Earth Setting. The GM is being deliberately unclear about whether you'll be playing your alt character or if your regular character will be facing them. So what is different about your character from Old Style Bizzarro World-Earth It's very different from real Earth because all of the "normal" people have the same powers and or abilities of your real world character except for your character who is "normal" by real world standards. How does your character feel about their lack of power? How dangerous/safe is a world full of people with your powers?
  22. This guy sounds like too much trouble to deal with in game. Forget in pretext of teaching him a lesson since you'll most likely come off as the bad guy. Instead just explain "If I'm going to GM then we need to accept my judgement during the game and we can discuss any contentions afterwards. If that isn't acceptable then someone else needs to step behind the screen because I deserve to have fun too."
  23. Kenneth Clarke would probably work for a corp as a high paid scientist while he secretly used the HUSKY avatar to fight the system from virtual reality. If Kenneth was ever discovered and eliminated the hulking robot known as HUSKY which had his donwloaded intellect would activate when he didn't perform his regualr memory download. If the corporations didn't like HUSKY as a hacker avatar they will come to be terrfied by the unstoppable juggernaut that is unleashed after they believe him terminated. "Strike me down and I shall arise more powerful than you can comprehend."
  24. We used the everyman skils listed in Fantasy Hero but each culture we create gets a cultural fam (8-) and a Transport Familiarty of their choice. Also in addition to each characters native language each character gets 3 language points which can be spent on additional languages and/or literacy(s). We thought the language option allowed the usual Fantasy convention of a variety of languages being known.
  25. Alternate Earth Characters #14 Your GM has announced he's going to run an alternate Earth game and he wants you to make a modified version of your character to fit his "Alternate Earth Setting. The GM is being deliberately unclear about whether you'll be playing your alt character or if your regular character will be facing them. So what is different about your character from Cyber-Earth It's just like real Earth but the world is run by Corporations the world's governments are figureheads. While the majority of people work tedious lives in virtual offices the dark underbelly of society thrives on decadence funded by a black market of stolen data.
