  1. Re: Paranoid HERO I will take a double order of Hot Fun!
  2. Re: Paranoid HERO What etherio said. It is my firm belief (opinion) that to try and run Paranoia like a normal RPG would kill the zany spirit and goofy atmosphere. The whole point of Paranoia is to turn the typical roleplaying experience on its ear. PCs are supposed to screw each other over instead of cooperate, as in typical RPGs. If you have PCs going at each other's throat and you add in a complex rules' system, expect NOTHING but rules lawyering and powergaming at its very worst... Just my 2 cents.....
  3. Re: martial Arts Comedies Great movie!
  4. Re: Post Apocalyptic Hero Thank you for that wonderful list of Post-Apoc novels! I wonder if any who read this thread have tried out the following... Richard Austin's "Guardian" series... J.D. Cameron's "Omega Sub" series... Glen Cook's "The Heirs of Babylon" One book on that list that was particularly bad (IMO) was Sterling Lanier's "Hiero's Journey". Read this one at your peril!
  5. Re: A Thread for Random Mooings Moooo....URK!!! (I've been MightyBec'd!!!!)
  6. Agents of Light and Darkness by Simon R. Green I just finished "Agents of Light and Darkness" by Simon R. Green. Book 2 (#3) if you count "Drinking Midnight Wine" (which is set in the same universe, but with a different protagonist) that follows John Taylor through the Nightside, a small part of London that remains perpetually at 3:00 AM. Urban Fantasy is the genre. Book 1 was "Something from the Nightside". A fun little book. I think I reviewed it earlier in this thread. AoLaD was a quick, fun read with lots of action. A little on the light side, but fun. A little predictable, but enjoyable. EvilLuke likes the imagery and the unique characters. I agree and give it an "8" of 10.
  7. Re: New news from the Post-Apocalypse RPG front Thanks Tom! I had a hard time understanding the relevance until now...
  8. Re: So I'm thinking of running a Western HERO scenario...
  9. Re: So I'm thinking of running a Western HERO scenario... I had a couple of ideas. Number one - Dark Champs pg 193 features "Grace Under Fire" optional rule. Maybe use a variant to decide showdowns? Number two - why not apply REC healing per wound instead of on the total damage taken. That way, one big wound still takes a long time to heal but lots of little wounds heal at the same time.
  10. Re: Prefab for Herbs and Poisons Bump I am interested in this area as well.
  11. Re: What Fantasy/Sci-Fi book have you just finished? Please rate it...
  12. Re: What Fantasy/Sci-Fi book have you just finished? Please rate it... Gewing, This proves that people in Eastern Washington are smarter than people in NW Louisiana. Actually, I didn't finish it. I threw that piece of sh*t down within 30 pages of the end. I just couldn't take it anymore! I was skimming by that time, but alas, the mediocrity got the best of me!
  13. The Hero King (Varayan Memoir part 3) by Rick Shelley This one will turn you off sequels. Rick Shelley, you wrote a decent, not great, but fun book in "The Hero of Varay". I liked that book and eagerly read the second. At the time, I did not know you were trying to milk three books out of material that would make only one good book. Neither did I know that all the good material would be in the first book and the next two would experience a drop off in quantity similar to the equation used to compute terminal velocity. Shame on you!!!!!! I give your putrid example of a literary train wreck a 1 out of 10!!!!! It was not the worst I have ever read, but it was one of the most disappointing. Rick Shelley, hang up your quill!!!!
  14. Re: New news from the Post-Apocalypse RPG front Heads up! Ebay has several Morrow Project books for auction including rare The Armory Book.
  15. Re: New news from the Post-Apocalypse RPG front I have never looked at Gurps Y2K. Why is it essential for PA games?
  16. Re: Turakian Age: Drakine Population Dynamics As is proven by males everywhere by our universal distaste for all things Calista Flockhart...
  17. Re: FHWeapons2.hdp corrected file here Thanks! That was very nice of you!
  18. Re: FH Prefabs: Armor,Weapons,Gear etc. Very nice! Thanks, Traxx!
  19. Re: So I'm thinking of running a Western HERO scenario... Doc, Nice ideas! But won't all the PCs want to be "I protagonists"? Who wants to be Joe Peon?
  20. Re: New news from the Post-Apocalypse RPG front You might be thinking of me... I hope that I didn't give the impression that I was close to running that game, for I am far too busy to currently run it. Running a Fallout/Morrow Project Hero PBeM is a dream of mine that keeps getting shoved to the back seat... But if I ever do somehow manage to launch it, Major Tom, I will include your name with Peregrine and Sav's as invitees...
  21. Re: New news from the Post-Apocalypse RPG front People like you, Surbrook, Bob Greenwade, Keith Curtis, Shelley MacIntyre really make the Hero system come alive by sharing your ideas via website! Kudos to all of you!
  22. Re: Turakian Age: Drakine Population Dynamics With electric breasts, Drakine dating would become a spectator sport... 1st Drak - "What is he doing?" 2nd Drak (looking through magic scrying device) "Moving his arm around her shoulders..." 1st Drak "Gimme the magic ball! Gimme the magic ball!" 2nd Drak "It is my turn now (SLAP)!" 1st Drak (glaring) "What is he doing now?" 2nd Drak "Going for second base...." 1st Drak "Yesss!" A loud ZAAAAAAAAAP-POW is heard! 2nd Drak (wincing) "Love hurts!" 1st Drak "Her father sacrificied a human to Tamna-Seth..." 2nd Drak "That explains why poor SSSSam's right arm is now a pile of ash."
  23. Re: Turakian Age: Drakine Population Dynamics Comic books must drive you crazy! I think Keith refers to the basic suspension of belief that is required merely to play the Fantasy genre. If you look at Fantasy TOO closely (or comic books, or movies, etc.), all you will find is flaws, inconsistencies, etc. It is possible to examine a piece of art with an electron microscope, but why do it when it is meant to be looked at from across the room with the normal eye? Now, you have every right to do that (your game, your enjoyment), but it seems counter productive to apply such strict levels of logic in a fantasy setting, IMO.
