  1. Steve, Thanx for your help on "nighthawk question". Anyway, in TUV, how are Tires defined in game terms? I can't seem to find the appropriate power in HD or FREd. Are they considered a custom power?
  2. I was recently putting all of my characters into HD format. I decided to also put all of the characters in my books into HD. Now, i know that there are downloads for this in HD format on the online store, but i'm incredibly cheap. Anywho,... under the published version of Nighthawk in Champions, he has a power listed as "+6 versus range modifiers". Now i used to know this stuff in my sleep, so this is kinda embarassing, but where in FREd (5th, not revised) would i find this, and how would I do this in HD? Thanx in advance
  3. Re: P:U (Project: Unity) Nice. Has kind of a Weapon-X / Wolverine kind of feel to it without being a 'Wolvie-clone'. How much do you have developed on this Operation: Northguard? I'd be interested to hear more.
  4. Re: If Dark Champions were a movie... Marvel...no 'fense.........
  5. Re: Help converting a couple of GURPS abilities to Hero Sanitized Metabolism: Cosmetic Transform, Always On? Culture Adaptability: What Nevereverend said Selective Conception: Summon 25(?) pt Infant, Incantations (oh baby oh baby), Gestures (nuff said), Extra Time (9 months), Concentration (Only To Initiate Summon)
  6. Re: Homebrew Organizations OVID? Me likey. Say, isn't "ovid" some sort of zoological category? Or, (don't laugh) is it something to do with eggs?
  7. Re: Two Weapon Fighting as SPFX ahhh, Equilibrium..... Personally, I would try to build a Martial Arts Style complete with maneuvers ala Ultimate Martial Artist. Call it "Gun Kata" (with respect to Equilibrium), and be sure to take weapons elements into account (duh). If you have the time of course. Otherwise, I would use one of the aforementioned methods for the time being. But the Gun Kata thing is definately something to consider. Maybe I should break out UMA... Whatcha think?
  8. Re: Dungeon World My thanks to all who replied. ALL of your input has been greatly appreciated. Unfortunately, as much as I would like to continue the discussion, I can't. REAL LIFE has snuck up on me and finances dictate that I must day goodbye to the internet for a few months. :weep: I look forward to coming back and seeing where the thread has taken off. Again, thanks. I now leave the thread for your scrutiny.
  9. Re: Campaign Guidelines/Setting for review/my players One personal note on plot-killers (to touch on what Emerged said earlier); My champs campaign has a cyberkinetic. He has vastly powerful precognitive abilities which are basically focused through machines and the machine class of minds. Sort of a cyber-mentalist. This made it very difficult to keep secrets.
  10. Re: Dungeon World I seem to remember also an Elric story (stormbringer? sailor on the seas of fate?) where Our Antihero was trapped in some sort of limboesque dimension. The premise of this dimension was there was nothing but stone from one end of the universe to the other, and all sorts of critters in between. But as for my dungeon world, I'm thinking that maybe this 'pocketverse' is a dumping ground. A sort of cross-worlds junkyard where monsters, failed experiments and the victims of magewars are deposited. Or perhaps it's more like "Riverworld" where all those who have died suddenly are reawakened?
  11. Greetings Herophiles. I recently handed over GM responsibilities of our group to one of my players (he's running a terran empire game right now) so that I can focus on revamping my current campaign and regain my focus. I feel that I've been able to get a lot more done, and this has reawakened my creative juices. While tinkering with my FH books, I stumbled on a reference to a "dungeon world" setting; one where the universe is basically an enormous, never-ending dungeon. At first glance, this may seem like a dumb idea. After all, that's an awful lot like the majority of D&D games we used to start in our youths. But after a few scant minutes of toying with the idea, I couldn't help but think of some pretty neat things you could do with it if you simply let pure creativity. Why are the PCs there? Do they have recollection at all of theire former existence/plane of origin? How did they get there? And just what the hell are al of these monsters doing here? Many aspiring GMs of childhood dungeon crawls failed in explaining why things are the way they are. When faced with explaining why things are in a dungeon, they would throw up their collective hands, and resort to a petty bout of raiding, killing, and looting (AKA hack-n-slash). But what if you could explain these questions? What if the reasons for the "world" being the way it is were answered, and some effort were actually put into its creation? Basically, I'm envisioning something like Undermountain, but which fills an entire plane of existence. I shall now entertain your questions, comments, and advice.... My thanks in advance.
  12. Re: Thanks, SS Is there any other kind?? I tried something similar once,.... the group tracked down the Villains to their base and trashed them thouroughly, but not without taking a few bumps of their own. During the aftermath, a cat that was in the base (an abandoned trailer park) took to the team leader, who guuiltily took it in. Afterwards, the team kept wondering how villain groups were always one step ahead of them, almost like traps were being set by an unknown criminal mastermind. Ironically, the team takes forever finguring out who or what is behind it all, since the team leader is too busy scooping the 'master villains' poop.
  13. I just bought FHG (excellent book IMO) and was having a little trouble understanding the rules concerning Magic Item Enchantment. If I read it correctly, the caster buys the Item with character points as listed with the "Item" description. However, he or she must also pay for the spell (one time only!), in order to be able to create said item (as under "creation spell"). Once the caster knows the spell, he can create as many of the enchanted items as he wants (provided he has sufficient supplies of mundane items, spell components, and END). Did I understand this right? Now, I know the first part of this sounds like a rules question, but I was also curious; How do you use magic in your campaign to create magic items? Do you use the 'Turakian Age" system from FHG, or a slightly modified version. If modified, how so? Thanx in advance.
  14. I could be wrong but I seem to remember seeing documentaries on fusion reactors (Tokamaks?). IIRC, the problem with fusion power not it's creation, it's with its sustainability. Basically, sustainable, safe energy efficient fusion reactions are not currently a reality, but certainly are attainable (in theory) as technology improves.
  15. For the W.O.W. effect, I would build it as a VPP with No Consious Control bought at -1. That way, the character can use it at will, but can't control the effects. Also, I would have the effects of the VPP's use chosen from a prewritten list, prefferably written by the player with at least some of them built to mess up the PC in question. The GM would of course have to approve of all prospective powers/effects and possibly throw in some "Really Big Nasties" solely of his own devising.
  16. [/shameless plug mode on] You could put "Mathias Aromak" from DH #10 into such a book... [/shameless plug mode off]
  17. We definately need an Enemies book. One of my biggest problems with Champions (and also, one of the FEW problems) is coming up with my own villains. In a time crunch, I need characters either for direct use or as inspiration/tweaking. I can flesh out the worlds. I can build the ships. I can design the weapons. My problem is Enemies. Don't get me wrong... DOJ is doing a bang up job. I love the system and wouldn't want to play any other. But SH is my favorite genre besides champions. I just don't want Hero to be viewed as just "that superhero game" only...
  18. This stinks. I got back into HERO after about a 7 year hiatus from gaming in general only because I heard there was a 5th edition and Star Hero was big news at that time. I was also dying to start a campaign based on Andromeda, which was getting really good. But as others have pointed out; most gamers get older and at 29, I had little free time. It took me a long time to find players and with money being really tight, it was incredibly tough buying new books. My players wanted to play Champions, so that's what I focused on. Perhaps I should buy up the supplements to my favorite subgenre now, before they stop the line altogether?
  19. I'm working on a character that has powers which he can only use while standing in water. This could be a full-blown lake, river, stream or the like. I figure this could also be a small puddle, or a rainstorm. Heck, throw a bucket of water on him... and stand back. Anyway, while building his powers, I saw the "Only Works In Water" limitation under the catch-all "Limited Power" at a value of -1 1/2. Would you take it as is, or lower the modifier to -1? Where I seem to be having the confusion is one of his powers is AoE:Radius, which is spherical. Therefore half of it's above water. Should I change it to "Only When PC Is In Water; -1" ? Your opinions would be greatly appreciated. Thanx in advance.
  20. Discuss this with the group first, of course, but.... Have them buy the bases/equipment/whatever "on credit". Let them know that any resources that they will be using that warrant a writeup must be paid for like everything else. However, as the cost of such things can get a bit steep, let them know that, for example, 1 experience point per character per adventure will be deducted from the available experience points awarded at the end of said adventure. Just a suggestion...
  21. In a recent adventure, our new gaming group had to go up against Mechanon. He had stolen sonic-based weapons prototypes designed to knock an enemy unconcious without killing him. Now, pretty much anyone would assume that the big M would pervert it into a lethal device somehow. Anyway, Mechanon was expected to attack a local NFL game to test the weaponry in some fashion. Sure enough, he arrives with his summoned robots, who are carrying "strange looking weapons". One of the PCs saw the weapons, not realizing what they were, and used his cyberkinesis to turn the robots around (after a series of VERY lucky rolls), and made them shoot at Mechanon. Little did he realize that Mechanon was sheilded from those particular weapons. So the robots turn, fire,..... and use the wepons on the same crowd the PCs were trying to protect. God, I'm evil...
