  1. That's exactly the aesthetic I'm going for and why I didn't include the 90s or the 00s. I ran a really fun online campaign set in the Atomic Age. I really tried to peel the veneer back from the idyllic 1950s with the Red Scare, the government knowing 'what was good for everyone' and the nearly unchecked power of Organized Crime during the era. And thanks for the suggestions for the 1970s, almost forgot about the UFO stuff. Have to start watching In Search of...on the YouTube again. You're almost convincing me to do the 1950s again, see above. You and me both, brother. Thanks to all for the votes and the suggestions...keep 'em coming even if you've voted.
  2. I'm contemplating an online campaign set in the past. I know when I'd like to set the campaign in, but I'm curious about what the general Champions population thinks. Rather than breaking it down by the Ages of Comics, I've instead separated the choices into decades as I think each has its own distinctive flavor. My take in brief on each decade: The 40s - Obviously dominated by World War II, a straight Golden Age campaign with heroes vs. Nazis, with a wealth of new info thanks to the outstanding Golden Age Champions The 50s - The birth of Rock n Roll and television, the heightening of the Cold War, McCarthyism, great black and white sci-fi films...the interregnum between the Golden Age and the Silver Age in the early part of the decade, the onset of the Silver in the later. The 60s - Baby boomers come of age, the height of the Cold War, counterculters emerge, Rock n' Roll evolves, the height of the Silver Age The 70s - Watergate, the Energy Crisis, disco emerges...as does heavy metal, arguably the greatest era of filmmaking, Viet Nam, the Bronze Age starts here The 80s - Ronald Reagan, MTV, yuppies, 'greed is good', the onset of the personal computing age, the Bronze Age gives way to the Iron Age late in the decade...laden with spikes, an overabundance of pouches and misspelled codenames So I'm curious, what decade would you like to play in? Thanks in advance.
  3. I was just re-reading the Modern Age of Superheroics section of 6th ed. Champions Universe which covers the Golden Age and WWII. A character called Cowboy and later Liberator features prominently in the formation of the DoJ and the Freedom Battalion. I was wondering if there was a reason for his omission in GAC.
  4. Sorry for the long hiatus to anyone who was following this post. I've made some personal changes (hopefully positive ones) that put me back on the creative path. Picking up where I left off, I felt uninspired by the Telekinetic template, instead going with a gravity manipulator with some MP slots out of Champions Powers and a background derived from the Gadroon in Champions Beyond. This is Deadweight, a small time crook with big time powers... TK 6.hdc
  5. From jobber to Champ in three weeks...thank God I subscribed to NJPWorld
  6. I have a character with a nearly identical power, so okay by me.
  7. The first five episodes of the new incarnation of Mystery Science Theater 3000 on Netflix. The new crew takes a little getting used to, but they do a good job of carrying on the legacy.
  8. Leave it to Lord L to cover pretty much anything...let's not forget my personal favorite...bow with gimmick arrows. It's also easy to look to the great rogues galleries...the themed arsenals of the Joker and the Green Goblin, Penguin's trick umbrella, the Big 5 of the Flash's Rogues (cold gun(s), heat gun, mirror arsenal, weather control rod, gimmicked boomerangs), Mysterio's illusionary devices. And how about street level powered armor/battlesuits like those of the Shocker and the original Scorpion.
  9. Checkmate honey, beat ya at your own damn game No dice honey, I'm livin' on the astral plane Feet's on the ground, And your head's goin' down the drain Oh, heads I win, tails you lose, To the never mind Where to draw the line An indian summer, carrie was all over the floor She was a wet net winner, And rarely ever left the store She'd sing and dance all night, And wrong all the right out of me Oh, pass me the vile and cross your fingers, It don't take time know where to draw the line Hi ho silver, we were singin' all your cowboy songs Oh, you told Carrie, And promised her you wouldn't be long Heads I win, tails you lose, Lord it's such a crime No dice honey, you're the salt, You're the queen of the brine Checkmate honey, you're the only one who's got to choose Where to draw the line Checkmate, don't be late Take another pull That's right, impossible When you got to be yourself You're the boss, the toss The price, the dice Grab yourself a slice Know where to draw the line
  10. (This one's for Arnold Ziffel...one, two...) You've seen life through distorted eyes You know you had to learn The execution of your mind You really had to turn The race is run the book is read The end begins to show The truth is out, the lies are old But you don't want to know Nobody will ever let you know When you ask the reasons why They just tell you that you're on your own Fill your head all full of lies The people who have crippled you You want to see them burn The gates of life have closed on you And now there's just no return You're wishing that the hands of doom Could take your mind away And you don't care if you don't see again The light of day Nobody will ever let you know When you ask the reasons why They just tell you that you're on your own Fill your head all full of lies Where can you run to What more can you do No more tomorrow Life is killing you Dreams turn to nightmares Heaven turns to hell Burned out confusion Nothing more to tell Everything around you What's it coming to God knows as your dog knows Bog blast all of you Sabbath Bloody Sabbath Nothing more to do Living just for dying Dying just for you
  11. I've never been a fan of the X-Men but I am a Champions completest. I can honestly say I don't even remember using anything from this book in any of my campaigns since it came out...24 years ago (Jeeze, I'm old). Glancing through it, I remember thinking that the build on Blowout was kind of cool.
  12. You see, I'm a guy of simple taste. I enjoy dynamite, and gunpowder, and gasoline!
  13. Set adrift in the multiverse By the whims of fate In thrall to the demiurge We all await escape Darkness and light entwine Everything is all the time All around you points align Everything is all the time From beyond the waveform Reaching the wall Giving birth to a universe Mother of all Living information Transverging space-time Flowing down from the overworld Into the mind of mankind Darkness and light entwine Everything is all the time All around you points align Everything is all the time You want to live for eternity To see behind the veil Everything comes around again The serpent eats its tail
  14. I get up at seven, yeah And I go to work at nine I got no time for livin' Yes, I'm workin' all the time It seems to me I could live my life A lot better than I think I am I guess that's why they call me They call me the working man They call me the working man I guess that's what I am I get home at five o'clock And I take myself out a nice, cold beer Always seem to be wonderin' Why there's nothin' goin' down here Well, they call me the working man I guess that's what I am
  15. "Next time we'll have a foolproof coffin."
  16. "Red Will" Danaher: I'll count three, and if you're not out of the house by then, I'll loose the dogs on you. Thornton: If you say "three," mister, you'll never hear the man count "ten."
  17. Nick Charles: I'm a hero. I was shot twice in the Tribune. Nora Charles: I read where you were shot 5 times in the tabloids. Nick Charles: It's not true. He didn't come anywhere near my tabloids.
  18. Lieutenant John Guild: You got a pistol permit? Nick Charles: No. Lieutenant John Guild: Ever heard of the Sullivan Act? Nora Charles: Oh, that's all right, we're married.
  19. Alchemy is the first thing that comes to mind. Maybe find a Roma language resource online and see if something strikes your fancy.
  20. "You despise me, don't you?" "If I gave you any thought I probably would."
  21. The Stretcher archetype gave me a little trouble, as I didn't want to make a clone of either Mr. Fantastic or Elongated Man. This is Kibosh, who got his crimefighting name from his blog. Stretch 6.hdc
  22. May I suggest a Power Skill: Swashbuckling if your GM allows it. It could be used as a Complimentary Skill for things like Acrobatics, Breakfall, Climbing, etc. You could use it for the classic gags like swinging from the chandelier, leaping from a great height and stabbing something to slow the descent, etc. If you're going for a classic look, may I suggest a gimmicked cape with a number of applications. A weighted hem could be used for a couple of inches/meters of Stretching, no Fine Control, the shape of the cape could disguise the characters outline for extra DCV, and perhaps it's bulletproofed for a few pts. of Armor/Resistant Defense on an Activation Roll.
  23. If I may speak as someone who has worked/currently works for a big company: 1) A lot of companies have separate production and prototype divisions. I could see ARGENT mass producing product for wholesale to VIPER, rogue governments, Teleios, etc. via a Production Division, with the Prototype Division handling the built-to-customer-spec devices. "VIPER sent us an order for another six dozen Jackhammers for their Nests in the Southeast. Something about Grond being spotted in the area." "Give it to Production." "VIPER is looking to subcontract a network of satellites to mind control Spanish speakers only. Seems they want to gain a foothold in Central and South America." "Give it to Prototype." 2) I could see Shipping & Receiving (more commonly known nowadays as Logistics...I should know, I have a hand in this) not only maintaining the teleportation network, but also managing front trucking companies that appear totally legitimate but handle more mundane deliveries for ARGENT. 3) Alluding to my earlier post, Acquisitions could be responsible for the theft of technologies, either in part or wholesale, from other companies. IT could steal intellectual property/data. If either required outside subcontractors i.e. mercenaries, they would be hired through the Human Resources/Manpower Division. Evil corporate synergy to use a buzzword.
