  1. Re: Looking For: Soviet Vehicles.. I kinda feel like a jerk for not responding.. Shadowcat, yes that is perfect. I got wrapped up in other things and never said thank you, so.. Thank You!
  2. Specifically the BTR-60 and the BMP-1 It looks like Shadowcat has done a fair number of these, but they seem to have rolled off the archive.. hopefully someone has them because honestly I'm lazy and really don't feel like doing it myself. Thanks..
  3. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group... From Sugar, a 16th Century Pirate, on learning some 'advanced medicine' : I see, so the heart pumps emotions *and* blood, what an amazing thing.

  5. Re: A Boon from the Gods... Well, I wrote this up as healing, with the custom adder 'Will Heal All Damage' so I didn't have to enter in like 16d6 I gotta say, not dying is nice.. but taking a 24 pound cannon ball to the leg sucks. It takes a while to recover from -117 Stun.
  6. Re: A Boon from the Gods... Probably because for some reason I was not even thinking healing.. Shrug.
  7. Re: A Boon from the Gods... Ok, there is no *reason* for it. I'm just a nerd and enjoy puzzling these things out.
  8. I hate these things.. Anyway, our merry band of troublemakers was granted certain gifts by certain cosmically powerful beings. Some were simple, some were material, and one is well odd. My Character received the boon, First Two Wounds received each month do no harm. (Basically, I take no BODY, but all the STUN) One Character received The first fatal wound each month is not so fatal. (The shot that kills him, only seriously wounds him and he will recover. Again, taking all the STUN but his BODY will revert to 0 or 1, there was still some discussion on this when I went to bed) Finally, our beloved Captain received immunity from all forms of disease, sickness and poison. Ok, the Captain is easy. The other character will probably just write down that he gets a free 'death' once a month. Now, while I could do the same, I would like to do it up as a power.. somehow. I've given it very little thought (Looong weekend, out of town visitors, someone moving, county fair, bowling.. ) Anyway, the only thing I could come up with was a custom power "Take no Body" With 2 charges, that recover on the full moon. Does this make sense, or anyone have a different line of thought?

  10. Re: PAH Character: Buddy, the Six-String Samurai hmm.. say 7:00 Saturday the 1st in Glendale, CA. Bring beer, I'll make the food. If I can get a hold of my friend in time, I'll get back my copy of Jesus Christ Vampire Hunter, for some zany double feature goodness. http://www.badmovies.org/movies/jesusvamp/index.html
  11. Re: Shooter, aka gunbunny, Archetypes hmm.. "The Customizer" Constantly mucking about with his gun(s). Whether filing off the iron sights to get a faster draw or adding lightweight triggers, extended slides with flash suppressors and extended magazines with handloaded rounds to an old colt M1911

  13. Re: What Fantasy/Sci-Fi book have you just finished? Please rate it... I recently finished the Scepter of Mercy series by Dan Chernenko(Harry Turtledove) it was a pretty good read, but I was disappointed by the epilogue. I'm in the process of re-reading The Farseer Trilogy and the Tawny Man Trilogy by Robin Hobb, since she has a new series out. These books are just fantastic. The Liveship Trilogy is also very good, just not in the mood to re-read that one.
  14. Re: Pirates : An amusing question. This is a fantastic suggestion.. I do like.. especially since last time we got a reputation, 8- Famous Pirates. We build a large house/citadel of some sort.. and 'leak' the information about a secret way in.. maybe even start rumours of some folks sneaking in and making off with a great haul. huahahaha
  15. Re: Pirates : An amusing question. Well, that is the thing.. we do have a trapped hidey hole.. something like 3 feet by 3 feet.. basically large enough to hold (and open) a large chest. We have bought a fair amount of property, since there is a plan, I'm just not sure what it is. (Fun disadvantage: Outsider Mentality "You people are crazy!") I mean, I already have the Inn... I just need the motivation to build the empty hogshead on the end with the secret door, etc..
  16. Re: Pirates : An amusing question. Sorry, I've been away a bit. Anyway, while interesting ideas regarding construction, just little in the way of motivation. hmm.. I realize this is just public brainstorming, but maybe I didn't get my point across. We are not motivated by greed, we are not gathering wealth for the sake of wealth. Justin (the other character) is gathering funds in order rescue family members and probably to kill his Hunted. Sugar (my character) is preparing to wage war against the 'Church', He actually wants to assassinate the pope, since he blames the pope for the suffering of his people. So, as characters we have little motivation to build a lair (at least at this point, but if I find a secret cave/harbor... ) However, we as players find the thought amusing, and really I'm still kind of stumped to find that motivation. It doesn't help that my roomate/the other player has been out of town for two weeks, so we have not played in a while. And Dr. Who, while good does little to get into the Pirate mindset.
  17. I am requesting some ideas.. that will most likely not get used, but I think it's amusing nonetheless. Ok, here is the deal. We are playing in a fantasy pirate game. We have acquired a small stash of gems and platinum (highly valuable, and portable) and have hidden it away with a relatively simple trap protecting it (simple to build, we are not carpenters.) So, me and another player got to thinking.. wouldn't it be funny if we built a massive deathtrap lair for the next genre of heroes to find.. or something. Anyway this would be sometime because we are not amassing great wealth simply to have it, we are going to spend it on big things.. like ships and cannons and bribes and other wonderful things. But the big problem we are having is why would two pirates build a massive lair? We as players find the thought amusing but cannot really come up with a good character motivation to do so. Ok, so maybe it's only amusing to me..
  18. Re: Historical resource Well, Pirates it is from me.. since the game we currently happen to be playing. http://blindkat.hegewisch.net/pirates/pirates.html - This my current favorite. There is a nice large section on medicine of the period, detailed somewhat graphic and quite frankly a miracle we survived medicine of the time. http://pirateshold.buccaneersoft.com/index.php Has some nice color maps, and nice bibliography, for folks who like paper books. http://www.noquartergiven.net/ports.htm LINKS!!! The site itself is for a group of re-enactors.. but the links are good. http://www.thepirateking.com/index.htm I like the weapons section on this page.. although the picture of the host on every page bugs me for some reason. Anyway, those are the links I generally use for things piratical.
  19. Re: Historical resource hehe I think one of my favorite parts of that price list is the note on 'Womens Favours' If this is to be Pirate Reference thread.. I have some decent ones.

  21. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group... Ok, one from a near future space game. GM: You round the planet and see a large mushroom shaped space station. Me (PC Ships Doctor): Look Sir, Smurfs. Stye (PC Ships Captain): I'll call Gargamel
  22. Re: Pirate Hero Maybe a bit of a thread hijack is in order then.. Allow me to go into detail on some things.. Black Flags: Piracy In The Caribbean is a decent book. There is a lot of history in one convenient place, and the d20 stuff can be ignored. It's currently 3.00 at RPGNow for a PDF download. However, there are no deckplans. Dark Quests City Guide: Nautical Necessities is interesting.. it only covers a few places. I have not completely read this particular book, but I do know it is missing a number a pages within the PDF.. not really a good sign. Again, no deckplans. 0one Games Battlemaps: SlaveShip provides a pretty good look into a ship called the Cottonmouth, in what is basically a map supplement for a d20 Adventure called Blood Runs Cold. I only purchased the map, not the adventure which may leave somethings in the dark. It can be printed in full color, or in black and white. It is visually stunning, but the ropes on deck bug me for some reason. Given the relative size, I would guestimate this ship to be a Brig or Brigantine, there are no cannon shown on the map, which to me is a good thing, because I can move them about as I see fit. 0one Games Pirate Ship I love this thing. It's a bit on the large side, I would again say more of a brig than a sloop. You can adjust from a Square Grid, to a Hex Grid though I would guestimate the hexes to be about 3 feet. There are a number of 'print' options, what grid, what furniture, whether the compass is apparent. It actually creates a number of single page PDF files that must be printed out on a regular printer.. but for 1.95 I won't complain. I'm not to clear on the advantage of printing it out blue vs. black but overall I am very happy with this one. Adamant Entertainments CORSAIR: The Definitive D20 Guide to Ships, is really anything but. It includes one deckplan for a Brig, and some of it appears to have been taken from a website about the Jack Aubrey books Comstar Games Fantasy Ships of the High Seas Does actually have 5 deckplans in it.. but from what I understand they are not that great. Hand drawn on graph paper seems to be the biggest gripe. However it's 4.95 There was one other book whose name escapes me at the moment, but it boasted 4 deckplans.. one of them was for a rowboat, and one for a viking longship.. not so useful for pirates. I'm also looking at getting a cheap copy of Stormwrack (yay eBay) Some of the stuff from the archive looks decent, but not enough to pay retail for, since I'm not a d20/D&D Player. jeez, that was mighty long winded of me for being at work.
  23. Re: Pirate Hero I agree 110% on the need for deck plans.. deck plans period! We are currently playing a Pirate Game, and I have spent a fair amount of time and money looking for suitable deckplans. We are using a psuedo-sloop from 7th Sea, a Brig and a Brig-ish "Slave Ship" from Oone Games. The Color Prints from an Osprey book on Galleons and modified images from a Spelljammer Merchantman. All I can say is thank (insert-diety) for Chessex and the Battlemat. I have no idea what the heck to use for the frigate I think we are about to get. It's all very annoying. Anyway.. I'm going to plug Oone Games While they only have two ships available, and I only really like one. I have hope, and I like some of their other products. I got the 7th Sea 50ft Sloop here (at the bottom) http://www.7thsea.info/index.php?module=Downloads&func=view&cid=8&start=0 I don't remember where I got the merchantman from, and I don't feel comfortable posting the pdf without that information. I also got these two books from Osprey Spanish Galleon and The Pirate Ship. There is also a book on American Heavy Frigates that holds some interest for me.
