I have split the chapters across the two books, and am arranging everything to flow smoothly. We are moving as briskly as we can, it just takes a little longer when (a) this is not my day job and ( it's a team effort. Rob
  4. Re: Traveller Hero... an update from the authors I have a question for those waiting for TravellerHERO... Since the book is so big, we are considering splitting it into 3 smaller books (like the little black books), smaller being relative at 100 - 150 pages in each book. Book 1 would be character creation stuff, Book 2 would be starship creation and starships, Book3 would be gadgets and Imperial information. The disadvantage is that it's 3 separate books; the advantage is you could buy only the pieces that you were interested in. I would like to get people's thoughts on this, as one factor in the end decision. Thoughts?

It's one thing to build components in HERO, but another to make sure they mesh and jive with Traveller specifications and physical parameters. Especially when assumptions about 51st century from a 1980's perspective don't mesh with 2007 realities Coming along though

  10. Re: Traveller Hero Launches! We've had a few hiccups along the way (day jobs, life as we know it), but we're getting close. As it now stands, we're going to have 2 Starship Construction chapters - the Simplified Version that is like book 2 but with HERO Values (no writeups), and the Full Version that has all the various pieces with writeups, like you find in Star HERO or Terran Empire. I hadn't planned on that, but feedback from internal reviews said we should. Point is, we're making this as wonderful as possible So keep your Jump Drives ready...

  12. Re: Traveller: Jump Drive Sorry, what I meant was that a mini-jump takes a week like a regular jump. It's just that the same trip at 1G may take more than a week.
  13. Re: Traveller: Jump Drive Yes, jump drives can do a mini-jump within system. the rating is simply the maximum. in large systems, a mini-jump may take less time that a 1G trip.

Re: Traveller Hero Update For psionics, there's 3 different builds - Classic Traveller style which involves prebuilt powers, TNE style which involves frameworks, and Generic Traveler style which is an open but structured method, so GMs have several options to choose from. For starships, the constructing starship chapter is what is taking the most time for me to finish at this point. Have rules for creating VIRUS and running VIRUS, different computers, lots of race things. Characters suggested as 100/50+ or 150/50+ to have Traveller feel instead of movie feel Have Conversion info for converting from CT, T20, etc. adding pointers to information in Out of the Darkness book where appropriate Checking package deals/templates to make sure we cover what's needed So we're getting closer. Lots of good stuff inside
  15. I haven't been able to work on this doc since February, but I'm posting what there is of it for now, in case I don't get the opportunity later. It's based on the Villany Amok structure, and it's for Star Hero adventures. Keep in mind, players, if you read the contents you may spoil adventures your GM may have planned. I'm out of town this week and can't work on TravellerHERO, and just thought I'd post this and get feedback. If people like it, I'll start back on it some time after I finish my part of TravellerHERO. Maybe even see if Comstar will publish the finished manuscript.
  16. Re: Traveller Hero, a major announcement We are currently adding good stuff in the Starship Construction chapter and several other chapters. Our goal is to make this good, rather than crank something out as fast as possible. The original hope was to have it ready for GenCon, but "life issues" have slowed down my part in the group effort. Once the completed manuscript has been reviewed and approved by Marc Miller and HERO, ComStar can provide the official release date.
  17. Re: DragonLance Setting Conversion No new ones yet. I might exercise some different brain cells and build 5E versions of the other Draconians in a month or two, but right now I'm heads down writing for the expanded Traveller HERO book, so that's where my brain cells are right now.

Re: Traveller Hero, a major announcement A couple of things: Size of the book - I'd say somewhere between 200 and 300 pages, depending on which extras get to stay this time and what art is available. Psionics - I like psionics in SF -- evolution of mind and body, but some things about Traveller psionics I don't like. The book should have something for all fans, GM and player, Classic and The New Era alike. Randomness as secondary options. I've played in Classic Traveller, MegaTraveller converted to HERO by an old friend, as well as various incarnations of Star Trek (obviously ). Each has its own pros and cons. Okay, time for supper, family, and then back to the writing.

  22. Re: What makes a game a Star Hero to you? To me, a Star Hero game has one singular requirement - Stars. That means that regardless of travel by solar sails or magic sailing ships, of pulpy Buck Rogers or cinematic Dr. Who, space and star travel are there. The rest, as they say, is special effects and stories.

    Re: A phaser in hero Would your writeup of trek hero be of any use to someone who ONLY has the hero 5e rulebook? Does it require any other hero products? For the most part, you would not absolutely have to have any other books, although any package deals (like asteroid miner, rebel, senator, etc.) that appeared in one of the official hero books (Star Hero, Terran Empire, etc.) point you to the appropriate official sourcebook and page. So parts of Star Hero, Terran Empire, Spacer's Toolkit would all make GMing easier, but you could get by without them.
