  1. Re: Clever use of illusion spell Images aren't just deception. Use them for decoration. When you are looking for someone or something, paint a picture with Images. When you want to communicate secretly to someone across a room, make a whisper or written note. When you enter a room, make spotlights and trumpets. When you win a fight, make a bell ring, a crowd cheer, and a bunny girl hand you a trophy. When you get angry, make thunder hit and your eyes turn white: PRE attack. When you want to use Seduction, make a good atmosphere. When the princess speaks before the people, make it sound and smell like she passes gas again and again, or make birds poop on her, or make her nose grow, or give her horns and a snake tongue, or make a wall appear in front of her so no one can see her, or make a laughing monkey appear on her head. Use Images to entertain people by playing a concert or showing a movie. Cheers!

I don’t know if it helps but I have two ideas. 1: Many linked Entangles each with a different Set Effect: left hand only, legs only, mouth only. 2: Separate the BODY into sections. For example, a 6d 12 BODY Entangle that is 6 DEF and 2 BODY on 6 different locations. Cheers!
  3. Re: Follower's Perks Thank you everyone! The two are like partners. They need to be together as characters. Without someone to serve, a maid is just a Goth-Lolita. The player understands that the GM has some control over a Follower. Besides, she has a Psychological Limitation that she doesn't speak with anyone but her master. Cheers!
  4. Re: partial entangle Thank you! These are all very helpful. Dust Raven, I found the rule on page 423 about freeing only one limb. I’ll use Entangle with Set Effect and No Defence, and Link a DEX Drain with Physical Manifestation and/or the Limitation Sean Waters gave. Instead of 5 points per Phase spent removing the nattou, I want something related to the BODY of the Entangle. For example, every 1 BODY of damage to the Entangle removes 1d of Drain effect. What is a good Limitation Value? Cheers!
  5. Heroes! What do you think about a Follower’s having Perks? Example Shy Devil Maid Hizumi Who Killed Her Boyfriend is a powerful Character. Her master is a detective-wannabe who travels the world searching for adventure, but he is a Follower. He has Unlimited Wealth and many Contacts and Skills. He does brain work like interaction, computer hacking, deduction; and Hizumi does physical work like making tea, punching faces, kicking down walls, and so on. Cheers!
  6. Heroes! Entangle is all-or-nothing: you are held or you escape. How do you make an “entangle” from which you can partially escape. Example Nattou Ninja Natuki can cover people with thick nattou (see below) A victim removes some nattou and regains some CV, frees an arm, etc. But he is still partially covered. He can spend time removing more nattou, or he can take other action with penalties. nattou Nattou! NATTOU!!! Cheers!

    Heroes! MAID ROLE PLAYING GAME! All players are maids who serve and compete to earn the favour of their master, the GM! example character Kamiya: Well, let’s try actually making a character. Hizumi: Ye…yeah (sinking feeling) Kamiya: Since we have a perfect maid right here, Hizumi, I’ll give you another chance. Hizumi: I thought so…of course… Kamiya: Don’t worry, the rules are exclusively for making maids. There will be no bad results. Hizumi: Er…really? Kamiya: Well, character creation results depend on the dice which are strictly fair, so don’t hold any grudges. Hizumi: I will! Kamiya: Ok. Since you agree, let’s start with attributes. Hizumi: When did I agree? When!? Kamiya: First, based on your personality I’d say you have to be Heroine. Roll one more die. Hizumi: 6…again, Heroine. Kamiya: Heroine x2, good. At this point Lolita or Sexy would be strange. Hizumi: Well, Heroine is better than those. Kamiya: Now that that’s done, let’s do the abilities. Hizumi: 7, 10, 5, 7, 6, 9…Seems average. Kamiya: Divide by 3 and add the attribute modifiers: Action 2, Love 3, Skill 1, Cunning 2, Luck 0, Guts 5. Hizumi: No Luck, All Guts. Just like me. Kamiya: Also, for a maid your low skill but high compassion is quite distinct. Hizumi: I don’t recall being so compassionate. Kamiya: Next, the maid colours: clothes, eyes, hair. Roll separately. Hizumi: Er…2-5 Navy Blue, 1-2 Violet, 4-4 White. Kamiya: Hmm…navy blue clothes and violet eyes? White hair? Not a sight you see. Hizumi: It is a strange mix. Kamiya: Now the best part: maid characteristics. Hizumi: 2 3, Shy? Kamiya: Hmm…That means you’ve never talked with anyone but me. Hizumi: Well, I suppose. Kamiya: Next. Hizumi: 3 6, Angel/Devil. Kamiya: Oh, this is new territory. Well, for now let’s settle on devil…but I never knew you were a devil. Shy Maid Devil Hizumi: It was decided right now, right now! Kamiya: Well, well, it’s ok. A shy devil maid. Cute, isn’t it? (nod, nod) Shy Maid Devil Hizumi: I’m not happy! Kamiya: Well, let’s hurry up with the rest: Maid Power, Trauma, Stress Outburst. Roll each one. Shy Maid Devil Hizumi: Maid Power is Iron Will, Trauma is Killed Her Boyfriend, Maid Roots is No Reason, Stress Outburst is Violence. Kamiya: Hmm…rather cool. Shy Maid Devil Hizumi Who Killed Her Boyfirend: Thanks… Kamiya: Still, you killed your boyfriend…looks can be deceiving. Shy Maid Devil Hizumi Who Killed Her Boyfirend: I don’t feel like talking back anymore, Master Kamiya. Kamiya: Anyway, this is how you make a character. Does everyone understand?   8. Re: partial effect? The goal of this idea is to make the 4 Mental Powers more suspense and variety, other than all-or-nothing. I want a chance for a struggle that takes some Phases to resolve. Maybe Hinata cannot stop from grabbing Naruto, but she is able to keep her face away, she is aware that she is being Controlled, and she asks Naruto to help. Maybe every Phase Hinata makes an EGO roll to stop herself from moving one step closer to completing the command. Dust Raven! Thank you for the information.   11. Heroes! Normally, Mental Powers like Mind Control, Mental Illusions, Telepathy, and Mind Scan are All Or Nothing: you get the desired effect or nothing happens. How do you make a Mental Power that has some effect, even if you do not get the desired effect? Example Hinata secretly admires Naruto but is too shy. Ino uses Mind Control to make Hinata kiss Naruto. If the effect roll is: EGO, Hinata admires Naruto from afar and imagines kissing with him. EGO+10, Hinata nervously approaches Naruto, says hello, fidgets, etc. EGO+20, Hinata daringly talks with Naruto, trying to create an excuse to friendly kiss on the cheek or at least grab his hand. EGO+30, Naruto is Surprised Out Of Combat and will not act for 1 Full Phase. Cheers!

If an NPC is Stunned, I act by staggering, groaning, quoting, etc. If an NPC is impressed less than +30, I act with voice and face only. If an NPC is impressed +30 or more, I act with voice and full body. Most of the people I play with are not Herophiles. I need to remind them of rules, but it’s boring to use game terms. If they don’t get the hint, I explain. If I am playing with people who understand Hero, I don’t need to do anything because the players look at the effect rolls and guess, but I like acting anyway. By the way, some NPCs pretend to be Knocked Out or Impressed, but no one pretends to be Stunned. Cheers!
  13. Heroes! Do you tell players when an NPC is Stunned? Likewise, do you tell players how much effect a PRE attack had? Normally, I tell both because I like giving players an advantage and it's usually obvious in movies and comics. Cheers!
  14. Re: Bodyjacking Nexus! I agree with Dust Raven about using Mind Control but, I can think of two more variables. Visible While under control, does the target’s body have some noticeable sign: the eyes look like the attacker’s, a mark on the neck, the body grows a tail, etc? Maybe even suspicious behaviour: total fear of water, uncontrollable habit of licking one’s lips, unusual speech, etc? STUN If the target’s body takes STUN damage, does the body-jacking character take it too? If the target body is Knocked Out, is the body-jacking character still able to act or escape? Cheers!

If I get unlimited wealth, I can use it to make the world a better place, and all I have to sacrifice is: 6 CP: 3 Running 2 CP: 2 STR 4 CP: 4 PRE 3 CP: 6 COM The other CHAR I want for health, enjoying life, and using the wealth wisely.   18. Re: resolving a tie Sean Waters! Thank you. I corrected the 3d thing above. Most of them are 3d rolls so I carelessly overlooked that. Also, I like the way you state it as doing something TO another, and the target has to beat the roll. That's one easy to remember rule, and it fits all the situations. In the cases of Grab, Disarm, and Cover, the ties all go to the person performing the manoeuvre.

  20. Heroes! There are times when you do a roll vs roll: STR vs. STR, skill vs. skill, etc. I want to write up a reference for resolving ties. So far I can find the following notes in 5ER: 1: Skill vs Skill, the second person wins the tie. “…the second character must succeed by the same or a greater margin.” (p.44) 2: Grab/Escape STR vs STR, the person Grabbing wins the tie. “…if the Grabber’s total is higher or the rolls tie, the victim remains Grabbed.” (p.387) 3: Held Action DEX vs DEX, the actions go off simultaneously. “…if both characters make the roll by the same amount, the Actions go off simultaneously.” (p.360) 3a: “…a Held defensive Action always takes place before an attack.” (p.360) 4: Disarm STR vs STR, the Disarming person wins the tie. “If the attacker’s BODY total is higher or the rolls tie, the Disarm succeeds…” (p.386) 5: Grab Weapon STR vs STR, the person Grabbing wins the tie. “…use normal Grab rules to see if the attacker succeeds.” (p.388) I think #1 includes any use of a Skill: Concealment vs PER roll, Trading vs INT, Seduction vs EGO, etc. Please post any help or comments. Are there any situations I forgot? Cheers!
  21. Steve Long! Thank you for answering the other questions and this one. Is this correct? After Grabbing a target, you don’t need to use an Action or spend END to hold on. It’s the same as holding an object. However, if the target tries to Escape, you need to spend END for STR, but you don’t need to use an Action. Restraining an Escape is a No Time Action. Cheers!
  22. Steve Long! If a target tries to escape from being Covered, you do a DEX vs DEX roll. The target goes first. 1: If the target fails the roll, does the contest end there with the target still Covered? 2: If there is a tie, who wins? Cheers!
