  1. Hey Savinien. Long time. When and what format does your group play at/with?
  2. I came late to Turakian Age and I never actually fell for it as written. It always seemed better suited to something like the Wheel of Time to me, where humans were the overwhelmingly dominant species and there was a lot of detail regarding the individual nations and cultures therein. Even the map evokes that feel for me. Using Tolkien/D&D staple races always seemed to detract from the setting at large. I could force a sort of "Forgotten Realms in Hero" vibe overlay, but it just wasn't as satisfying to me. Ultimately, I gave up and just decided to work on more personalized settings. I still tinker with them from time to time, though I doubt that much will come of them. I haven't been involved in a game since 2009 and these days, where taking offense at every little thing seems to be a new art form, I don't feel really confident in looking for a new group.
  3. I too love Shadowrun 4/5 (essentially the same thing but with some finer points changed from one iteration to the other). For the longest time, I thought that the Hero 3d6 curve was BOR-ING. I spent a lot of energy trying to shoehorn different dice systems in its place. In the end, a Hero but Roll High method has become my favorite method for speedy dice rolls. I will stick with the Shadowrun system for Shadowrun, but for almost everything else, the Hero system pretty much has an easy to use dice system. Still boring though.
  4. This. This right here. I love Hero. I love the way it flows once you start actually using it. I just don't have the time, energy and motivation to create an entire setting from scratch. It's just easier to pick another product off of the shelf and run with whatever system it was built for.
  5. Hello Herophiles, I've corrected and re-uploaded my campaign to the RPTools site at http://forums.rptools.net/viewtopic.php?f=33&t=18939&p=199843#p199843 I will not be posting or responding here at the Hero Games site, but I will check the RPTools thread.
  6. interesting. There is a member here that spews far more filth onto the page than my little "stick" and appears to be unchallenged. I suppose if the rhetoric agrees with you then it is fine. Whatever. Go ahead and give those Moderation Abilities a whirl. It has been a fun ride but I am, quite frankly, sick of the bias around here. Thank you, and I mean that in all earnestness, for keeping this place going. I'm just not prepared to shut my mouth when I have to read insults that encompass me because of my ideology while a little poking earns me a threat. See y'all down the road someplace.
  7. Well, in the interest of full disclosure, I was just using the pretense as an "in" to slam Hillary Clinton. Juvenile of me perhaps, but somehow it still satisfies my inner gremlin.
  8. I've heard the equal and opposite view espoused by folks on the Right. They often miss the point that the Right pretty much holds the cards right now and is doing a much better job at playing 52 pick-up than they are playing their hand.
  9. I support your opinion. Hillary never need run again and trouble us with her evil cackle. Besides, I am willing to bet that the Democrats can field a way better candidate than Hillary Clinton could ever hope to be.
  10. Oh that tears it! Hillary fixed the Primaries! Why that.... Oh wait, I wasn't a Bernie Sanders supporter. The Democratic Primaries meant nothing to me. As for the rest, I already believed that Hillary Clinton was scum so no rage here. Not really any sort of affirmation for that matter. I didn't need that either. So no rage. No nothing.
  11. What he said. I second going with something concise like Champions or Fantasy Hero Complete. All the essential rules with far less bloat. I would then suggest the Hero System Bestiary as the next logical step. It will give you a feel as to how "official" builds look and feel. The Hero System Equipment Guide, Skills, Martial Arts, and Grimoire can round out your basic education into Hero. The Advanced Players Guides are handy for taking your game to the next level, though everything in them is just an examination of concepts not readily dealt with by the normal rules. Depending upon your gaming goals (genre, etc.) you may then start delving into the genre books as needed. Champions deals with Superheroes, Fantasy Hero with Fantasy, and Star Hero with Science Fiction. The back catalog of Fifth Edition supplements deals with Post Apocalyptic (and named for such), Pulp (again aptly named) and Dark Champions, which should have been named Blockbuster Action Movie Hero. The rules changes are slight and the genre books focus more on describing the tropes of said genres with only a portion of the book given to rules. The Fifth and Sixth edition are highly compatible and almost all rules constructs can virtually be lifted from one to the other. There are some changes in Characters, but even then you can use most of them without issue. Some of the stat names changed but conversion is a super simple process.
  12. I went to a walk-in clinic last Friday. They prescribed Amoxicillin for the ear infection. I am completely cleared up except for the fact that I still cannot hear anything from my left ear. I am dreading the eventuality that I will have to have those tubes installed to drain the ears. The practicing nurse did tell me that it would be between 10-14 days before I see any sort of clearing but I have never had it last so long. Every time I take the Amoxicillin I also get really sleepy and irritable. I've slept more in the last week than I have the previous six months. And once I get all of that settled, I have to go about rebuilding my gut bacteria. Whoever invented this whole getting sick thing really needs a stern talking to.
  13. My only "issue" with the site is that where the old "Go to first unread message" link was is a "Start new topic" link instead. I just have to train myself not to click it. I'll also miss that little function. As far as everything else, the site seems to be working fine.
  14. Personally, I don't care except for the week immediately following DST change. The Fall change isn't so hard but the Spring one sucks. Once that week-long transition is over, it by and large fails to register on my daily importance-o-meter.
  15. I have a completely different reason for having difficulty writing; I don't seem to have a story to tell.
  16. The Hateful Eight - Post Civil War western set in a Montana waystation where eight people are trapped by an unexpected blizzard. Being a Quentin Tarrantino film, there are a few interesting twists along the way. Overall the movie was enjoyable, but probably just a touch too long. Also suffered from Tarrantino's tendency to wander off the plot sometimes.
  17. EVE is a great high concept with a piss-poor implementation. I would never jump into playing such a game for many reasons. The absolute mandate for multiplayer gameplay ruins what would be an otherwise awesome experience. I'm just not interested in making casual acquaintances from around the world simply to go blow up other players' stuff and ruin their day. I've heard about the real world costs of ONE of EVE's epic battles and I was truly aghast at the thought. I cannot even fathom that a game publisher would be party to the loss of so much real currency for something like that. In my mind, that is one step away from criminal. The only reason I don't take that step is because the idiot that devoted that amount of money, presumably with the full knowledge that he might lose it, deserves equal or worse scorn. That the hierarchical structure of EVE is pretty much a mandate makes it sickening. Well not for me at any rate. I would have to win such an insanely big lottery that money literally became something trivial.
  18. Guilds are another thing I need to consider. I don't have one and don't want one that requires more of me than the occasional resource dump into a special project. Know of any good ones?
  19. Source and scope on that metric please Old Man. I mean, does that include only Federal positions or are State/Local government positions included. I am curious is all and have no opposing data.
  20. I endorse this. Then again, I am an unrelenting proponent of the 2nd Amendment and I am NOT a racist.
  21. The whole donation thing is really bad around the holidays here. I don't even deal with it at the register. I'm too busy cursing myself for forgetting the stupid reusable grocery bags and spending $0.10 per (single use - which I thought was the whole point of passing that stupid law) bag to get my groceries home. If I had to deal with the constant pestering for charitable causes, I would probably find some way to order my groceries from home. As to social commentary in entertainment, the absolute less the better. I want to be entertained not bludgeoned by the creators' vision of what makes a great society. As to The Orville, I kinda lost interest about halfway through the second episode and haven't been able to generate enough to go back and catch up.
  22. You are correct. I see Trump in the context of a great threat towards the dignity of both the POTUS office and the people of the United States. Any defense of him is triggering the ol' "knee jerk" reaction. Thanks for posting the quotes and putting it into perspective. I might still have a few quibbles with General Kelly's response but at this point the whole issue is "more of the same" from the current administration.
  23. That's because it was a weird side-quest. There were very few direct ties to a follow-up season and I think episode/chapter 7 served to set up a recurring character for next season. It also was a driving force for 011 to tap into her abilities like she hadn't before. It was tonally awkward compared to the rest of the season though.
