  1. Re: My House Rules. Comments Welcome For me part of the fun is being able to play someone that is beautiful when my character conception calls for it. It is kind of bothers me to have such an arbitrary limit on CHA. Also, I tend to shy away from Champions GM's who want to "add a touch of Realism" into their game. It's superheroes, if it was realistic we would be playing Law and Order Hero, not Champions. Sometime you have to let go of the real world when you are playing Champions. Hell, there are people who can fly just because their body is on fire, read minds, and just about anything you can imagine. To prevent stat inflation with 350 pt characters, I request that players build their characters like they are unpowered (skill wise) then purchase Powers and Characteristics. Then you have much more rounded supers that can do more than fight. Also they will have spent enough on skills that they won't be able to have high stats and lots of powers with major Cheesing. With my quibble about non combat stat limits aside. The house rules look pretty good. Tasha I'm not opinionated or anything
  2. Re: Hero Games #1 Hey watch it... Both my partner and I game. We have friends (both women) who own a game store. BTW My partner, is one of the most kick ass board gamers that I know. So, Pbtttttttt!
  3. Re: Cross-gender roleplaying I have played Lesbian (my sexual perference) and Straight women. It isn't too hard to play a str8 woman, but it is kind of weird at times. My uninformed and biased guess is that they guys would have the hardest time playing a Gay man. Especially one that isn't a stereotype of the "queen" or swishy gay man. Just a guy that likes to be with guys and have sex with them. Tasha
  4. Re: Tactics Skill I usually use tactics skill as a kind of "are you sure you want to do that stupid thing in combat?" skill. Also as a way to point out ambush points when the group is on a more strategic scale. The idea to me is to allow a player who may not have good tactical skills themselves to play someone like Batman who has strong tactical skills. Tasha
  5. Someone in the HD thread answered my question. There was no way to edit my previous post so there it is in all of it's angry glory. Sorry to waste your time, Tasha
  6. Re: Cross-gender roleplaying Essays on playing CrossGender Characters (particularly Women) Beth Kinderman has many good essays on Role playing. Just get over that she is a White Wolf player. She has some great insites into Roleplaying and RPGing as a woman. For the most part I think guys have a pretty hard time playing a women. Most of the guys that I have played with throught the years seem to fall into the trap of using gender stereotypes in playing women, or they simply play a man with the body of a woman. Most people remember Ripley as being the woman who fought the Queen and went into the hive to slaughter the eggs of the Aliens. You have to remember the earlier parts of the film where Ripley is unsure of herself, is not taken seriously, Nurtures the frightened Newt. If anything she is the architype of the mother cornered with her child. She does not have the personality of a man. Tasha
  7. I have just finished a rather condesending discussion with Dan about the Advantage "Works against EGO not Str +1/4" I was informed that since the advantage "Wasn't Defined" that it would not be part of HD. Now to me if the book says to use an Advantage the *&%$^ character creation program SHOULD have it as a standard option NOT a "Custom modifier" The rules question: what is the defination of this Advantage? and is really required for Mental paralyzis? Tasha
  8. Re: Why do folks that dislike Hero hang out here?
  9. I agree that point totals don't necessaraly equal power level. I can create a 500 pt character that balances pretty well with 350pt characters. It all depends on how much you munchkinize your character. I prefer not to have to come up with cheesy limitations (ie not in intense magnetic fields) just to make a power construction fit into 250pts. I also like my characters to have a decent amount of background skills. In 250pts I have a very difficult time doing that. Way back in the 3rd edition days, we played at 250 pts. Then Fantasy Hero and Danger International were released. We decided that having those cool skills were essential to our characters. The problem was that we couldn't take our characters as written and add the skills without increasing the power level. So we decided to play champions at 100+150 +50pts in non-combat lvl skills (150+150). That made our characters more rounded and we started have adventures where we didn't spend all session beating up villains. Now in 5th edition we have characters 200+150 and I find that I can write up characters with more complex power conceptions. I can also play competitive characters that don't have every power focused, and limited to death. I am sick of playing mystical focus girl, powered armor suit woman, removable cyber module lady etc. So I am running my Teen Champions game at 200+150. I prefer that level and besides it is much easier to use the published villains if I am at the assumed power level of the Champions Universe. Some of the players in my campaign have marveled that the feel of 200+150 wasn't much different than 100+150, just the amount of cheesing and the amount of affordable skills was different (ie less cheese, more skills). BTW when I am playing non-supers (ie Fantasy hero or Star Hero) I like playing at 75+75. I have also had fun with 50+75 as well. Tasha
  10. My last character defined killing very strictly. Any death was too much for her code. In the last game with her, she argued with an alien mage as to why it was wrong to kill demons and warlocks. For her it came down to killing is wrong no matter how much the person deserves it. As for the PCs who are abusing their CvsK. If they are not following the code close enough for you. Then figure out the new level of Code vs Killing humans (Common, strong) and fill the points with unluck. That will get their attension. Before you do that you may want to discuss with you players why they play a code vs killing the way they do. Perhaps you can come to an accomidation or at least they will know that you don't care for their loose interpretation of the Psyc Limit. Tasha
  11. My only issue with the character is the Change Memory... It should be a Major Transformation. See the Until Superpowers Database pg 158. throughout the book whenever a transform is used to change memory, Psyc limits permanently it is listed as a Major Transform Also don't forget the points for the Academy where Cerebro is housed. Tasha
  12. I will point out though in current Marvel Xmen canon. Nightcrawler inherits some of his looks and the teleporting power of his real father. His brothers and sisters (By the same father) also have the teleport power. So sometimes powers do run across genetic lines. Tasha
  13. Don't you know that Invisible woman figure will bring major cash on E-bay. I just can't wait to see how much people will pay for just a plain Clix base with stats. Tasha
  14. When I saw the Matrix and LOTR I never made the connection. Last week we were looking through the listings on DirectTV and saw the one for Priscilla, Queen of the Desert staring Hugo Weaving. We paused and just had to watch it again. Here was Agent Smith the Drag Queen on stage. It really gave the Movie more comedic value. Now back to our regularly scheduled Thread. SMG is waaay too skinny. She was much better in the earlier episodes of Buffy. In the last season she never filled out her clothes and she just didn't look healthy. In all silliness, how about Reese Witherspoon? She has a great smile and a great body and is blonde. Tasha
  15. I would make any signature items have a 8- Activation roll for people other than the original owner. You may HAVE Iron Man's armor, but do you know how to pilot it? You may have Dr Cold's power ring, but do you know how to activate it? They way to get rid of the Activation roll is to pay points for the Focused powers. For real world weapons, I haven't really had a problem with them. Most supers are fairly resistant to small arms fire (esp Champions characters). Tasha
  16. I wouldn't hold my breath on this one. Tasha
  17. Hi, When you are pushing a power, can you apply the push to a power's adder? ie Character has 10" Teleportation with 4x Weight mult. Could she push just the weight multiplier? Thanks, Tasha
  18. I find that most of my characters have: Protective of Innocents Vengeful Recently I find that most of my characters have: Always keeps word freely given (Not under duress) I guess it comes from playing so many Faerie characters. Most of my older characters had: Overconfident but many of them were bricks who wouldn't be really harmed by this one. I find that I also like curious characters. They are really fun if you have a bogged down adventure. I just love sticking my nose into dangerous situation. Tasha
  19. Re: Hatred + Enraged I think that this is reasonable. Hatred of ______ doesn't mean that the character will automatically attack. It just means that the character won't trust, talk to or be see with the object of the hatred. Personally I don't like to see enrages on heroic characters, but the enrage does work. It is the I automatically attack. Then it is perfectally reasonable that this hateful unreasonable person is hated back by the object of his hate. So to mess with this character, I would make the Orcs and goblins more than the cannon fodder of the week for the characters to kill. Have tribes of Orcs and Goblins that are more civilized and who trade and are mostly lawful folks. Make sure that some NPC that the characters trust see these tribes as good folks. Make these disadvantages count. If you are just going to use Orcs and Goblins in the D&D video game hack and slay sense then these disads are gleaning many points for doing something that the characters are going to do anyway. Tasha
  20. Not necessarally, if this magazine was published and sold on newstands. You would find that it would have a large readership of nonsupers. So if you were a super and subscribed to this magazine, you would just have to show that you were a fan of supers. Tasha
  21. Re: Cafe Press Question I would pay $21 for a Woman's Tee with Superhero/villian artwork on it. Journals with Champions art, organization logos would be cool too. Big soda cups would be more useful than mugs. Tasha
  22. Re: My players have become villians Personally, I think that your gaming group has issues with the campaign. Perhaps it is time to find out what they like and don't like about the campaign, so that you can fix the issues. If the players aren't having fun and you aren't having fun then you have things to work out. Perhaps some endorsement contracts for the PCs for that money and some licencing as well. Does your Stronghold have a "Revolving Door" policy for "cool" villians? It is quite frustrating to defeat a villian to have them walk on a technicality or from some other off screen excuse. It is OK to sometimes spring a villian, but leave defeated villians defeated for a few story arcs. Then when they strike from inside of Stronghold you won't have players/characters wondering why they bother not killing the villians. I wouldn't ever run a SuperVillians game. I would restart the game with new characters and use the old characters as NPCs that the players have to hunt down. Tasha
  23. For the fishing spell how about a Summon that has the Slavishly Devoted Advantage on it. You could even expand the class of Fish that it will summon. In case you get sick of eating trout. A fish wouldn't cost very much so the Summons would be really cheap. About 1 point or so, unless you want to summon sharks or Marlin, then the cost is higher. Tasha
  24. Princess Starfire: She would be really annoyed that someone cut her hand off. Then she would have to deal with the fact that she wasn't the real Princess. She would of course make sure that she was 100% robotic. If so, she would then go looking for the real Princess as she would obviously be a decoy who forgot her programing. She would also look into whether or not there WAS a real Princess Starfire or if that was an implanted memory. She would then check all of her past and really dig to find all of the "secret" government files on her. All to make sure of her past. It would also explain her interest in AI. Fury: It would explain Mechanon's obsession with her. She would also go into reserach mode to find out if her Father built her or just found her. She would also do lots of soulsearching to understand if her motivations are caused by life experiences or by pre-programing (kind of Nurture vs Nature on an AI scale). She would become more solitary and less likely to want companionship, until she had this figured out. This would also make her guilt over the deaths of her parents and their teemmates even harder to bear. Tasha
  25. Re: no comparison That reminds me of a champions game way back. I was playing the team's brick and she had 15 points of armor as her only resistant defences. She had taken all but about 5 of her body from an attack taken out of hero ID so she was in bad shape. She was left fighting this guy with claws and the GM rolls his biggest attack. I can't believe this attack.. get ready... 10d6HKA. I did the simple math in my head. On an average roll my character was just plain dead. I shook my head and was really annoyed and handed the GM my character sheet. He shook his head and insisted on rolling. He rolled like 25 body and 25 stun. My character took 10 body and 10 stun. All from this fearsome attack. The stun lotto wasn't working for the GM that day. Of course he could never roll well to save his life. Tasha PS I would rather have a Normal attack in most situations. Just think if the attack had been a 30d6 HA 105 stun average with 30 body average. My character would have been in GM's option for awhile.
