Tasha got a reaction from Word Sensei 515 in IS this still avallable?
Corea made an ass out of himself on his website way before he started playing games with the Hugos.
Last I checked Both Game Kastle in Fremont CA, and Gator Games in San Mateo had the Hardcover in stock. They usually get stocked with other games because there's nothing on the spine to ID it as being Hero System compatable,
The MHI dice are just big D6's with the MHI Logo on one face. They are nowhere near as functional as the Blue and Black Hero System dice. Also the MHI dice are this shitty looking white and green speckle. UGLY. Probably should have sold my book to Half Price books. I don't think I opened it to look at it after I bought it. So Hero Games got my cash on that one, but I have never bought another book by Corea.

Tasha got a reaction from BarretWallace in No Complications Please - Simplifying Hero
Since first edition Fantasy Hero and the First large Package Deals. I have often wondered if the system was looking at Disads/Complications all wrong. I DO hate how Lowering Stats, buying off Running, Senses etc are treated as "free disads" ie they lower the cost of your character, but Disads were something that added points to the character. Mathmatically they seem to do the same thing, but it gets weird when you have a package deal with sells off stats and other things, but also comes with Disads. The sell off items are only limited by what you want to sell off. Disads are limited by Campaign limits. This is the ONLY reason that I have any problem with Disads.
I am all for games that give incentives for Players to take weaknesses for their characters. In my huge experience, Players don't want to take ANY thing that will weaken their character. So if you don't give them an incentive to do so, they won't. I agree that in Previous editions of Hero (pre 6e) Players were asked to buy way too many Disadvantages. I do like that in 6e the number of Complications asked for is MUCH lower (Probably a bit too low, YMMV). I know that asking for 50-75 pts of Disads for a 400-500pt PC isn't that much to ask for. The Reason that the PC gets those extra points is because they are adding something to the campaign. They are helping me to write adventures for them. They are telling me who the important NPC's are for them (Villain, DNPC, and NPC alike). They are even asking me for adventures that challenge their PC's morals (ie adventures that trip their Psych Limits) and their Physical Challenges (ie Very heavy, blind etc). These are all things that I may not have thought about myself or even if I did they probably wouldn't take that form.
The Roleplay DNA podcast Talks about disads and Hero points/Bennies and how they find them to be an invaluable aid to their Roleplaying and Worldbuilding as a whole.

Tasha got a reaction from David Blue in New to Champions & HERO System
Also if you play alot having Hero Designer will make your life very much easier. It makes characters, computers, vehicles etc. Also it will print out Combat Record sheets (with all of the PC's phases with characters in Dex order).

Tasha reacted to Eodin in Confused about the Traveller Hero books
There was a point in time when I was writing the thing that I got feedback that (1) we were including material that licensing would not allow and (2) Comstar would prefer 2 smaller books (hence book 1 and book 2) instead of 1 big book. So that's why big chunks of stuff went bye-bye for what became books 1 and 2. I haven't seen the single version contents, but I assume it was one such version before the change, or a version after I gave Comstar all my InDesign files.

Tasha reacted to SteelSpyder in Confused about the Traveller Hero books
Oh, sorry, I meant new as in material not contained in the three main Traveller Hero books we have been discussing. In other words I don’t mean it has to be new to the Traveller system, just new to the Hero system and not included in the above books.

Tasha reacted to Enforcer84 in The imminent passing of George Perez (and my stepdad)
George Perez has posted that his cancer has reached critical mass
This really hit me hard because I'm going through the end of this story right now.
I'm watching my step-father go through the same. He suffered a few minor strokes a few weeks ago. He's been dealing with prostate cancer for a decade and the last round of radiation treatments did f' all and so the plan was to comfort him and start hospice when it looked like it was time. We (the kids) all gathered for Thanksgiving this year, and dad, unable to talk well was vibrant and laughing taking part in the telling of tales where he could and miming when he couldn't find the words. He seemed to be getting better...at least his speech.
A week later he's had another stroke and is now confined to a wheelchair and the planned party for his 85th birthday on the 11th might not happen.
I'm sad. Sorry to show up only to whine.

Tasha reacted to Hugh Neilson in REC and END costs in 6e vs prior
There was also discussion around the fact that no one ever bought up REC and END, rather than buying reduced END. Similarly, no one bought up STUN and REC - they just bought more defenses. They were overpriced, so their price was reduced. To mitigate that, at least to some extent, they were made "defensive characteristics" so adjustment powers would only have half as much impact.
-
Tasha reacted to Grailknight in REC and END costs in 6e vs prior
It's simple. Because you don't get them for free anymore.
Pre 6th: A Brick with 65 STR, 33 CON and 15 BODY has a starting 20 REC, 66 END and 65 STUN.
In 6th: Those same starting Characteristics will still leave you staring at 4 REC, 20 END and 20 STUN.
STR has the same price in 6th because it's still gives an attack. BODY lost it's bonus to STUN but is still useful. But CON went from "must purchase as much as I can justify" to "I'll purchase as little as I can to avoid being Stunned by typical attacks".
The reduction in the previously Figured Characteristics was done to keep pricing closer between editions. A direct translation of any character from 5th to 6th will be more expensive but the gap would be even greater without the price changes.

Tasha got a reaction from archer in Portable closet (bag of holding like)
IMHO the OP really didn't describe what he wanted to DO with the power.
Like I said above, I think people are overthinking this. Reasoning from ability description and not from functionality AKA from what the ability does, not how it works/looks.
That closet can be sheer special effect to many abilities. ie Multipower could have that as a Special effect. It would be good as a special effect for a VPP. In fact in someways it seems like the player is looking for a VPP if the character has a wide variety of gadgets.
-
Tasha reacted to assault in Portable closet (bag of holding like)
Don't be like that.
But still, it's not a good idea to encourage "how much should my Special Effect cost?". The answer is: zero.

Tasha reacted to assault in Portable closet (bag of holding like)
All of which is stuff the character has already paid points for, aside from the costume
This thread looks a bit like a tutorial on "how not to build Champions characters "
If it restricts the character's access to their gear, it could actually save the character points. (The ring acting as a focus )
Otherwise, the character is spending points on a special effect.
See Tasha's answer for more details.

The first question should be what do you want that power to do. The ability to summon armor and focuses is just the limitation OIAID(Only in Alternate ID) instead of focus. It can also be a special effect for a Multipower that includes different guns. So each multipower change is just the character switching weapons in the extra dimensional space. If you want to change your clothes (ie Instant Change) that is a 1d6 Transform, Cosmetic, standard effect. (6e1 has it as an example under the Transform power IIRC).
So this is Weapon Switching (aka Multipower) with OIAID on each slot, and a pool limitation of IIF or a common OIAID on everything.
If there is more equipment than just the weapons that you wish to change, then you can go with a Variable Power Pool for weapons and equipment.
Clothing is the Transform/Instant change ability.
Don't start with something like "Extra dimensional closet" You have to start by writing out what you want the power to do. ie I want a space where I can grab outfits, weapons, from thin air. Then you reason from THERE.

Tasha got a reaction from Jhamin in Consolodated Rules question
The best reference for 6e are the Big Blue 6e Vol 1, and 6e Vol 2. They have everything you ever wanted to know about every part of the rules. I only pull those books out when I need to look up something fiddly. Otherwise, I use Champions Complete for most quick rule questions.

Tasha reacted to Tjack in Dealing with players who leech off the others
Some people just aren’t comfortable leading a group. Especially if it’s a group of strangers like an on-line game. So I can’t really blame the player who admits that right off the bat. I might take issue with the one who doesn’t post at all. Maybe they’re just wanting to go from combat to combat, and not actually roleplay.
Either way its not good that you’re getting stuck this way, ruining your experience. Talk to the GM, maybe he can do something you can’t by talking directly to them. Possibly he may know one or both of these players and can give you some advice on dealing with them.
Remember this isn’t your job, if you’re not having fun then go someplace else where you will.

Tasha reacted to Christopher R Taylor in How would you build a computer?
If its just a PC of standard modern style and abilities, I probably wouldn't charge points for it at all. Generally speaking anything that is typical and ordinary for a person in the given setting (in this case, a modern person) such as a bed or a telephone or a personal computer is free. Its only if the item is extraordinary or useful in combat that you're expected to pay points for it, such as a supercomputer you can wear on your wrist or an artificial intelligent like Jarvis in the Avengers.

Tasha reacted to steriaca in How would you build a computer?
The typical 2020 personal computer with internet connection only will cost real world money. It gives a simple roll to find information (and misinformation, but it is up to you to figure out which is which), and no roll to play off line games (and an ordinary System Operations roll to install online games). There is nothing prebuilt inside the computer itself which can tell misinformation from information. A hacker could use it to hack various systems, but it is not designed for hacking (-10 or smaller penalty depending on the gm).
