  1. As for the training, my world has a wicked monsoon season and there is a separate month in the year when all kinds of crazy/random things can happen. These points in time on the calender make natural places for training. Also sometimes if one player has a set of skills that another player wants to learn they will tell me about it and over a period of time the 2nd player can buy those skills.
  2. In my Champions games every player gives up 5 XP with their character build for a base & vehicle. I will sometimes supplement that XP if I think it is appropriate (small number of players). In my Fantasy games this isn't a problem since they almost always are getting around on horses. I limit flying and teleport in my Fantasy games.
  3. The Body is applied after armor is subtracted. The stun is before! Head shots are wicked.
  4. Did you follow the instructions in the user manual, starting at page 13 about how to create a Combat Record? Creating a combat record (File Menu) is different than the Export (Current File menu) in HD.
  5. Hi, Thank you for purchasing HCM. Can you send me the XML and HDC files and I will check to see if I can figure out what is going on? Also if you could post the exact path name you placed the files in? Thank you again,
  6. Here are some ways players could kill a dragon: High strength + magic weapon (which doesn't have real weapon as a limitation) + martial arts + PSL vs hit location Mind Scan + ego based killing attack so they can attack from very far away (which is part of the history in my campaign world) Spell to transform it into something small and squishy Something like the scorpion weapon used in GOT vs. the dragons Powerful entangle spell that is EGO based - wait to cast it while it is flying high and then watch it plummet to the ground, hopefully on something really hard and pointy In my campaign world everyone leaves dragons alone. They have their own society and after many of them were killed using a spell combination like the one in bullet #2, there was a huge war between the dragons and everyone else. The war destroyed some national govt. Cities, towns, villages and fields were utterly destroyed. Many dragons were killed. If you look at it from who caused the most damage, the dragons won. If you look at who has recovered faster, the dragons lost. Slow reproductive cycle compared to everyone else. My players are universally afraid of dragons.
  7. I think you did a great job on that image. I do something similar when I am making maps. I do buy quite few maps from DriveThurRPG and I have a few Patreon map makers I support. I will often hack and combine maps as well. My gaming group is using Tabletop Simulator for our VTT. To create the 3d terrain I am using the method that is documented by Murder Hobo.
  8. All of this is based on my opinion/experience building characters for a long time, not on the books Hunting - Depends on if you mean someone who makes their living hunting or what the nobles called hunting. If it is the 1st then it is a set of skills - tracking, stealth, survival (appropriate environments), knowledge skill about plants and fauna, appropriate skills with hunting weapons (bow, spear, etc) and maybe a professional skill hunter 2nd type is maybe survival and appropriate skills with hunting weapons (bow, spear, etc) Tourney/Compose/Dancing - knowledge skills maybe based on a characteristic Falconry - Animal husbandry Flirting - Charm Heraldry - High Society Read - literacy for the appropriate language Play Musical Instrument - there is a specific skill for that with a list of instruments. It is like weapons familiarity Battle - No idea what this is
  9. It is absolutely necessary to set combat limits. Here is what I have done in my campaign. High level explanation Brink/Tank type fighters Characteristics: High strength, constitution, Body, Stun & PD/ED Martial Arts: Maybe CSL : No more than 4. Can buy up to 4 overall combat levels PSL: No more than 3 PSL Nimble type fighters (including archers) Characteristics: Lower strength, constitution, Body, Stun & PD/ED Martial Arts: Almost certainly CSL : No more than 6. Can only buy CSL for a specific weapon or type (sword). PSL: No more than 3 PSL; but can have +3 vs. Range and +3 vs Hit Locations
  10. And also out of a concern about @Steve Longhealth & well being.
  11. I have been actively using it with my gaming group. The mod is great. Still learning how to create terrain that looks cool and works well with the miniatures. (Fantasy Hero game)
  12. Ditto on @Ninja-Bear advice. I have been running/playing Hero for a long time. There times I will have to come back to the player or players and say "Well that little experiment with X (power, characteristic, etc) isn't working out that well. I am going to tweak thing this way." 90% of the time everyone is in agreement.
  13. In my game different races (i.e. they are in fact different races) have different templates which are applied when the characters are created. The equivalent of halflings have lower strength (starting and max), higher dexterity/DCV/SPD (starting & max), and a special ability to basically disappear (i.e. chameleon like invisibility - if they have something to hide against and you take your eye off of them, they basically disappear). And yes all of that is factored in when the characters are created, so a halfling starts with the same number of character points as everyone else, but has a pre-allocated amount to pay for their special quirks.
  14. Hi, You can find free stuff for HD here, in the Downloads area. 30 Templates & 62 Prefabs.
  15. I somehow forgot or during my edits deleted stating that these comments were about Epic Table.
  16. Zoom works very well. We tried Discord and had problems (at least one person could never get audio to work). We also used Google Hangouts. I ended paying for a one year Zoom license and that has worked out perfectly. Simple & inexpensive setup: $50 for the GM to pay for a GM license. Players just use the free client. You can use jpg or png for maps and tokens. Not sure about PDF as a map background. Supports Hex & Squares Easy to setup very simple Hero dice rolling that you can save. For instance a generic skill roll that can be used for any skill or roll to hit. And you can save your favorite damage rolls and get it to total up all the dice rolled. However it can't handle counting body for you so you will have to do that yourself. We used it for years with practically no issues Downside: Windows only One man shop doing the support/development Very small community Not as simple & slightly more expensive TTS is a much more immersive experience. It feels more like sitting at a gaming table, especially if your players like using miniatures and terrain For the last couple of months I have 'fiddled' with the TTS Hero Mod so I could prepare for the group moving from Epic Table to TTS. @Brennall has done a really good job building the TTS mod and enlisting help with testing and other tasks. My group has been using it for about a month now and it has made running & playing the game go much smoother.. On our table every has their PDF character sheet at their seat. Huge community of people who model terrain, miniatures, buildings, etc. for TTS. Generally it is all for free. You can find 'whole scenes' and just put them on the table Creating your own scenes from your own maps isn't hard Downsides: Everyone has to buy their own license. Sometimes they have sales on 4 packs of licenses - which you can gift to people. Steep learning curve for the GM Steeper learning curve for the players (compared to Epic Table) to learn how to navigate around the table using their mouse and keyboard. The more familiar you are with modern computer games the easier this is Can easily become a rabbit hole to look for just the right scene for an adventure/encounter Technologically challenged people may just give up. We just had this happen.
  17. The cat is actual a supervillain that is mind controlling him 🙂
  18. It is also for players who want to create the character in their head but games other games send you down some pretty narrow paths of what you can and can't do.
  19. IMO HD is very valuable for building characters once you have the character concept in mind and you know the general rules for building a character (i.e. see books). If you go to the download section you will find a wide variety of packages, templates and prefabs that are freely available to use w/ HD. I am betting many of us grabbed the weapon and armor prefabs (there are a few to choose from).
  20. In my current campaign (and a previous one) the player's provided very detailed backstories. In the current campaign one of the character has a kindly grandmother, the only one in his large family that encouraged him to become a bard and learn to weave magic with his spells. I immediately decided she was the villain and most of the rest of the family were villains as well. The character's father was a piece of work, but he was trying to get his son to escape (run away) because he knew about grandma. Grandma is a high priestess of one of the evil god's in the world. It took almost a year for the players and their characters to find/figure out who was behind all the troubles.
  21. Shameless plug: Hero Combat Manager which I wrote and you can purchase here. I think there is a export (on the site) that lets you use a Hero Designer export to create a simple spreadsheet.
  22. So I just tested HCM with 6e characters and yes I did implement it correctly. Which probably means I implemented it correctly for 5e. Sorry for hijacking this thread. Please go back to the discussions about Poisons.
  23. Thank you and ARGGG! And how is it handled in 5e? The way think it is?
  24. Umm when did that change? Can you cite the reference because I will need that to document a new 'bug' in HCM? LOL!
