  1. Re: Order of the Stick Thinking about adding that to my sig. As a quote from Blackwing, of course.
  2. Re: Dr. Destroyer or Mechanon?
  3. Re: Storn's Art & Characters thread. Think I might have to start using that picture for Istvatha V'han. Thanks for helping out with the lamentable shortage of greenskinned redheads, Storn.
  4. Re: Invincible The comic Invincible pretty clearly subscribes to the Megascale STR style of gaming too, where someone otherwise demonstrating around a 60-75 STR can still fling someone into space, punch someone through a skyscraper or throw a bag of garbage across the Atlantic. Kewl physics.
  5. Re: Invincible He chased a blast from Space Racer, a blast that probably destabilized the planet's crust, and he had help from his dad and IIRC Allen the Alien. It was a stunt but the three of them did crack a planet. The more I think about it I think Mark does just have Physical Damage Reduction at huge levels, probably 12-15d6, and if you are capable of topping that then you can hurt him normally. I think he bleeds in many fights just so you don't feel he is completely, well, invincible. I also think that Viltrumites have a genetic tendency toward megalomania and only Mark's mother's influence has minimized that in Mark and Oliver. But it still rears its ugly head every so often.
  6. Re: Group equipment MP or VPP Your player isn't playing the character. He's playing the abilities scribbled on the sheet married to his own imagination and tactical sense. If the ability isn't yet included on the character sheet it doesn't mean the character is incapable of it but it means they haven't thought of using their power that way yet. If it is going to be an infrequent series of creative displays then the character should buy Power Stunt: Teleport, realizing that sometimes he's going to concentrate, lash out with his power, blow his skill roll and fail at his new trick. If he wants a suite of abilities Teleport-related, he should have a TP MP that he can easily add new, creative ways of using his Teleport powers to as he thinks of them. Repurpose the arrow trick you mentioned towards the points for this. Or just say no. That stopsign for Teleport Usable as Attack is there for a reason.
  7. Re: Invincible Invincible has a heck of a PRE or positive reputation also. The villain in the last issue gave up without firing a shot when he saw who caught him. He's able to survive a move-through on a planet, and also able to make a successful move-through on a planet. Heaps of speed and resilience, but then again when Viltrumites tussle the blood starts to fly. Maybe Damage Reduction Only versus Non-Viltrumites for a crazy meta-solution.
  8. Re: Group equipment MP or VPP Pushing even moderate amounts of money around puts you on all sorts of watchlists. Buy a car with cash and you are flagged as a drug dealer. Buy a truck full of guns or even a case of the right stuff and you are going to be scrutinized. That scrutiny has costs, one of which is forfeiting a personal life. Bruce Wayne spends billions making sure people don't know where he spends his billions. SHIELD had a passkey to Tony Stark's life because he had expensive, dangerous toys lying around. I rarely charge points for Perks because I have always felt that the net gain for them should be close to zero. That important person you can call on can also call on you. Security clearances require background checks. Followers can be killed/destroyed/taken hostage. Vehicles can be killed/destroyed/taken hostage. And flashing cash can get you all the wrong kinds of attention.

  10. Re: What Fantasy/Sci-Fi book have you just finished? Please rate it... Picked up The Gate Thief by Orson Scott Card from the library Tuesday evening and finished it this morning, as a commentary on how I enjoyed it. Devoured it in fact, in a way I haven't in some time. It's a Gods-Among-Men, young adult novel or I should say it's a novel about a young adult. It has an intriguing premise that would make an amazing game setting using Mage rules. An awful lot of stuff just-happens but that is part of the premise. It is probably too blatantly an attempt to get some of that Harry Potter/Percy Jackson booty. It's no Ender, Bean or Alvin Maker but then how many times can lightning strike for OSC?
  11. Re: Adjusting DCV Personally I feel that instead of hardcoding that "Half Effect for Defensive Powers" nerf into Adjustment Powers, leading me to think that Steve Long has Munchkin scars that haven't quite healed yet, I feel that it should be Magnifying Glass/GM's Approval/Option. I think it is a vestigial ruling from several editions ago prompted by someone getting pwned by Bruiser or something ridiculous like that. It used to be that a PD Drain chased with a punch was pretty scary, right up until you ran into someone with a smidge of Power Defense and they beat you into a pulp. There are some SETACers on this thread; how seriously was it considered and playtested dropping this, IMO needless, ruling for 6th? If you want to keep the Adjustment Powers rule but work around it for the timekeeper character Overall Levels Usable by Others/Usable as Attack Only for things that would benefit from additional time works well. Lets the target have boosted OCV and/or DCV, pick their shot with extra DCs or ramp up the Time Chart for Skills that can be done quicker or benefit from time to make a leisurely decision.
  12. Re: Character: Sanura/Tisiphone (6e) Very nice. Well-equipped to be used in an Urban Fantasy game or a non-martial Superheroic game.
  13. Re: If powers were related to personality traits, what power would you have?
  14. Re: How would you build Mr. Fantastic's or Plastic Man's movement? Maybe Stretchers should buy Indirect on their Running?
  15. Re: Does anyone allow Followers, Bases, etc to get Disadvantages/Complications for po It seems like it isn't a Disadvantage until someone impersonates the devotee, makes the devotee unrecognizable or the devoted's mothering begins to smother. But yeah to the OP. All of those character points-determined Powers and Perks I have had the PC pay for the base/5 and any Complications are additional build points that don't need to be compensated for. I've also gifted lots of net Zero things to PCs. If this 5 pt Contact comes with a 5 pt Watched, game on.
  16. So I and my kids have been devouring these on Hulu and loving them ferociously. It's got elements of buddy cop and precinct dramas, hypertech japanime, superheroics and reality tv. What I think I might love most about the show is that two characters, Wild Tiger and Barnaby, have nearly identical powersets, entirely different Complications and are dramatically different characters. Anyone else watching the show?
  17. Re: If powers were related to personality traits, what power would you have? Positive: Read You Like an Open Book: Telepathy, Mind Control, Clairvoyance Negative: You Just Got Stupid Stains on my Shoes: Mental Blast, Requires Eye Contact, Must Use if Confronted with Inanity because I'm getting less and less tolerant of naivete and willful ignorance.
  18. Re: What's *your* superpower? *pause* So, who does everyone like for The World Series this year? I have PRE that costs END. I can own a room but it is exhausting. Maybe I can just Push my PRE? I can disappear in plain sight and sneak up on SEALs and hunters. It's more of placid mind thing than a make-no-noise thing. I wish I had LS: diseases but instead I've got Let's Get This Over With: +REC Side Effect: 1d6 STUN per Turn. I still catch everything but my body just throws all resources at wrestling the bug to the ground leaving little left to do things like move or speak. I still get 24 hour flus but blow through them in 8 hours, 8 hours of triple symptom misery. If the buboes were any indication I think I might have caught and beat The Plague. I have probably every Skill Enhancer combined with Psych Comp: Undisciplined. I spend one point, get two points worth of abilities and then wander off to a new subject.
  19. Re: Taming the Slayer You don't get xp for ones that don't get broadcast.
  20. Re: Taming the Slayer Buffy got seven seasons and a movie. River got, like, 7 episodes and a movie. Buffy has way, way more xp and would bring the noise.
  21. Re: Which edition do you feel is best for JUST supers? Is there such a genre as Just Supers? Most superworlds I know of have time-tossed swordsmen and cybersamurai, mages, mystics and mentalists, triggermen and pterodactyls, angels, demons, saints and sinners. Best pick a system and edition that lets you emulate all that. 6th lets you do things you couldn't in previous editions, although you always meta-could (Damage Negation just enforces Standard Effect on whoever is hurting you and soaks it 1BODY&3STUN/5 cp.) Having just recently had to convert a previous edition character over to 6th the changes can be a bit unsettling (400 pts in 5th ramped up to about 440 in 6th) but the toolbox added some powerful and versatile new items.
  22. Re: How to convince a hero group that they should be registered and work for governme Back in the day my players learned the hard way that all PRIMUS agencies were not alike. The San Francisco department was pretty straight-laced, the LA division was tech-crazy and the Northern Cal office was were careers went to die. Who wants to associate with faceless and homogenous government drones? Who wants to NPC them?
