  1. I have always liked that the real world weapon builds have always had damage ranges that matched up rather well with the variable dice side # method used by D&D and therefore is a great way to use heroic rule settings like Fantasy HERO and Danger International to teach the basic combat mechanism of HERO to players that have only played that other system without worrying about the powers system.

  2. Take a look at the speedster martial arts and infinite mass punch inside the VPP on this character for ideas.

    0 24) Infinite Mass Punch: Hand-To-Hand Attack +12d6 (60 Active Points); Hand-To-Hand Attack (-1/4) Real Cost: 40
[Notes: 16d6 with STR. 20d6 combined with Sacrifice Strike. Practical* Maximum Damage = 25d6 when combined with Passing Strike or Passing Throw and 90m Maximum combat move. Move Through Maximum Damage = 31d6 that he would also take a minimum of Half Damage (or Full Damage if target takes no Knockback).] - END=6

  3. That really depends on how detailed the characters are and how much math you want to show under the hood to potentially new players. There are several different varieties already in the download section and some made with the intent of hiding as much of the build math as possible. I like the full detail html ones the best because I tend to make super detailed characters.

  4. Before reinventing the wheel I would take a look at this thread and the website linked in the first post.

I've done starting Clark and Barry but they are pretty complex builds to show to potential new players.

  5. Thanks for all the well wishes everyone.

I am already back home with mom. The pressure from the blood clot seemed to be the cause of right hand & arm issues. They have me on perkoset, Keppra for seizures and steroids for swelling. They are also going to setup home health care (PT & OT) to help with using arm. They gave me a  brace to wear at night to keep it from curling up and already have noticed a small improvement. I was able to hold a spoon in right hand to eat cereal, a first in weeks. Anyway, sorry for the flood of details but those who know me understand that's how my brain usually works.

Hang in there, we're all pulling for you.  I get the sense that anti-cancer tech improves every year so hopefully you can stay ahead of that curve.

I can't remember what the point cost is for Ambidexderity in 6e.  Did you ever find out what superpower you got from the brain radiation?

    I'm still looking. ;)

  7. I'm back in the hospital again. The last year had seen slow progress with the melanoma cancer in my brain and body. 3 types of radiation treatments and oral pills. Last month's followup MRI and PET scans showed improvement in all areas. 2-3 weeks ago I started gradually losing control/dexterity of my right arm and hand again. I thought and hoped it was a pinched nerve in my back so went for a massage last Thursday. No change so oncologist scheduled new MRI for Monday. It found one spot grew from 7mm to 35mm so they did surgery on Tuesday. Looks like most was a blood clot. Gotta learn how to use my right hand again.  And yes, I am right handed. Fun fun fun.

Mmhmm.  And since separate powers are also separate attacks, they're not allowed in the same phase under the rules.  They're either linked to the attack or they don't happen.

And from a game balance point of view, it's ridiculous to let a character blow off every power at once.  Not gonna happen in my game.

What rules do you use?  Can you cite a page number?

  9. From 6e2 page 74:

    Combined Attack

Using two or more powers or similar abilities (but not Combat/Martial Maneuvers or the like) once against a single target isn’t a Multiple Attack. It’s a Combined Attack, and counts as type of Strike. Therefore it has no OCV penalty, doesn’t halve the attacker’s DCV, and doesn’t take a Full Phase to perform. (Using two such powers multiple times against a single target, or against multiple targets, is a Multiple Attack and subject to all Multiple Attack rules.)

In that case, I'd rule that the powers can't be used separately, then, unless bought as completely separate powers.  Starburst's EB doesn't get to be used solely as a Flash, or as an EB, so he has to spend the END for both each time he attacks.  (And obviously there'd be two 'to hit' rolls in that scenario.)

You are describing the Linked Limitation.

In fact there is a rule allowing you to use two different attack powers at the same time.  Combined attack 6e2p74.  In 4th ed, I don't think the rule is in the rule book but is adapted from Robotwarriors.

It was also in 5er and called Multiple-Power Attack on page 358.
