  1. Re: "Space" music recommendation! Ooh very cool. I like that.
  2. Re: Ideas for a Star Hero solo campaign I found ghost-angel's tracker here: http://www.herogames.com/forums/showthread.php/62001-TerranEmpire-Space-Battle-Tracker Very cool! Thank you. And thank you for the ideas... I'll try to post a follow-up later today.
  3. I ran across this music in the Star Walk app. It's fantastic ambient music for that "space" feel. Astropilot - Solar Walk -- http://itunes.apple.com/us/album/solar-walk/id368611181 (You can listen to a sample of each track.) I believe it's also available on Rhapsody and other online music places. Was hoping this might be useful during a game to give the players that "sci-fi" feeling.
  4. I'm considering running a solo Star Hero campaign with one of my old high school buddies (via Skype, as we don't live near each other). It's Star Hero because if/when we play anything, it's usually high-powered fantasy or superhero, and I wanted something different. I plan on using the Terran Empire setting since I have all the books right here (Terran Empire, Worlds of Empire, Spacer's Toolkit, Scourges of the Galaxy). I have Alien Wars as well, but that time is more military-oriented and grittier than I'd like for this campaign. I haven't run Star Hero before or any sci-fi campaign (whee!), and now I can't think of any ideas! I plan on doing some sort of standard "you have a small ship with (probably) a few NPCs" and maybe "your ultimate goal is to [do some particular thing]." None of that is set in stone. I think one of the NPCs is probably going to be a Malvan female (not a love interest, though). I'm seeking any ideas from anyone that would like to help! Also, any advice on running a Terran Empire campaign would be much appreciated as well.

  6. Re: "Ookla, Ariel, we ride!" - Anyone ever written up character sheets for Thundarr? This might be a good place to start: http://www.rpglibrary.org/settings/thundarr/
  7. Re: FANTASY HERO -- What Do *You* Want To See? In the chapter on world creation, a section on Death. In other words, how to decide on various things regarding death in your fantasy world. Can people be resurrected at all? If so, how difficult is it? If it's relatively easy or even merely possible, what are the effects of this on the world? (e.g., "I can be resurrected, so I will sacrifice myself more readily.") Perhaps someone can only be resurrected once, or only using blood from a family member, etc. What happens when a character dies? Does it vary with his/her religious beliefs (and they go to different places), or does everyone wake up on the Endless Field of Grain? Are you punished for acting horribly in life, or is everyone in the same place? If you have planar travel in your world, can you get to the Plane of Death? Does this Plane of Death have anything to do with necromantic magic, or is that drawn from the plane of the Undead (or something). In fantasy, death and sacrifice is often a primary theme that is directly explored, so it would make sense to explore it.
  8. Re: I am Spartacus I also watched this, and it got much better after the first couple of overly stylized episodes. A couple of the episodes were really moving (one in particular). The finale was awesome. Gave me chills.
  9. Re: YACttTOR (Yet Another Challenge to the Theory of Relativity): Space-Time no More Must... resist urge... to change... major... to physics. This would be very exciting if it turns out to hold up under scrutiny. I never really liked the "dark matter" explanation for things. (Of course, I'm no physicist.)
  10. Re: Independent limitation in 6E I can see why it was removed. Too much danger of "Hey, you took away my points! No fair!" as well as just using it to make everything cheaper with no real detriment. I'm not sure if I ever used it myself. I figure if the GM wants to give a character something and have it taken away later, it should cost no points in the first place (or the points get redistributed). I was curious if it was absorbed in some way elsewhere and I had missed it. Thanks, everyone.
  11. Re: Independent limitation in 6E Correct me if I'm wrong (I don't have the books in front of me), but I believe it was essentially saying this: Fire Bolt: 8d6 Energy Blast, OAF universal wand (-1): 20 Real Points Your magic wand is necessary to cast this spell. Actually, anyone can pick up the wand and do this. However, those are still your points and attached to your character, so they would be a bit like Spider-Man picking up a big blaster and using it once or twice, then dropping it and going on to something else. In the end, you can get it back and have your power again without a ton of trouble. An enemy isn't going to take it away from you and have you lose it for 5-6 sessions. Fire Blot: 8d6 Energy Blast, OAF wand (-1), Independent (-2): 10 Real Points This is the same as before (anyone can pick it up an use it), but you can permanently lose it. It's cheaper, but those 10 points you spent are essentially detached from you. Someone else can pick it up and add it to their own arsenal. You'll have to get it back somehow or spend another 10 points "making" a new wand. Wands or guns or telepathic helmets, of course. It can apply to anything. This is how I understood it anyway.
  12. I've been reading 6E, and I like it quite a bit. I was curious about the removal of the Independent limitation? I assume it was just removed because it was too unbalancing and/or unfair (since you could potentially lose your character points forever). Or am I overlooking something? Is it subsumed into another limitation somewhere and I've missed it? Does anyone know more about this?
  13. Re: Sixth Edition Characters No realli! She was Karving her initials on the møøse with the sharpened end of an interspace tøøthbrush given her by Svenge - her brother-in-law - an Oslo dentist and star of many Norwegian møvies: "The Høt Hands of an Oslo Dentist", "Fillings of Passion", "The Huge Mølars of Horst Nordfink"...

  15. Re: Sixth Edition Showcase #1: ACV And AVAD This looks pretty awesome to me.
  16. Re: how do you like your fantasy games As a follow-up to my previous answer, I like most any power level, but the feel of the campaign cannot allow for PCs tripping over their own swords and making spectacular spell failures[1]. This is practically a pet peeve of mine. [1] Unless of course the character concept is that he or she is clumsy/new/inept or the spell is extremely dangerous and it would be dramatically appropriate if that happened.
  17. Re: 6E Rules changes confirmed so far Here's my take: 1) The changes listed in the original post mostly make sense to me, so I'm not upset by any of it. (I wonder how decoupling will affect the character building stage, but I'm waiting to see 6E.) 2) The changes listed are very quick blurbs and summaries that are taken outside of the context of the text, so something that might seem to not make a lot of sense could be much more sensible when surrounded by context. There is a LOT of information that we're missing here. Think of the summaries as a trailer to a movie. You only get a teeny sliver of the film that tells you the premise. It's very hard to review a film by only watching its trailer. I propose that it's the same for a new edition of a RPG system. My advice to everyone is to relax, wait until you (or other people in the forums) actually have the book to review it, and then make your judgments. At least hear the case for the new changes before strapping them into the electric chair. No one likes to be judged before they've had a chance to defend themselves.

  19. Re: Transformers Hero Why can't I have dreams like this? All my dreams are strange, abstract, or "I haven't studied for a test"-themed.
  20. Re: Transformers Hero Also, that was some major thread necromancy! I made the original post almost six years ago. I don't even remember making it! I have no recollection of why I created it. ... Probably something to do with transforming mecha.
  21. Re: Transformers Hero Hmm. This link did not work for me.
  22. Re: how do you like your fantasy games Well, I have an interest in S&S but I've never played it. I've usually ran sort of a high-power fantasy (kinda like Champions Fantasy, 300+ points), though I've done others. I'm open to anything as long as the world is interesting and/or the plot is good.
