Probably not, from 1987A.  That was long enough ago that it's sort of "ancient lore" by now.

The other, quite possibly, but generally I don't pay a lot of attention to way out theories.  Having an observation blow up your theory is ... common.  As Einstein once said, "A theoretician's most valuable tool is his wastebasket."

Real theoreticians aren't wedded to any particular theory unless they really think they've got something (and have some people agreeing with them).  What makes a good theoretician is being able to play with a new idea, understand its limitations as well as its possibilities, and work out what's viable and what isn't; and, when confronted with a real measurement that refutes the theory, abandon it and move on.  (That last is what separates theoreticians from the loonies who claim to have "a new theory" and Will Not Let It Go.)   IMO new theories are in the "crunch all you want, we'll make more" category, but there's lots to be got out of that when done properly.  But I am a hard-headed observationalist.

It's not "pulling a race card" to point out that reducing an entire cultures animated industry into a single 'genre' is off point.

As someone pointed out, American Animation Hero would have the same problems; Gummi-Bears. GI-Joe, and My Little Pony hardly operate under the same genre conventions beyond some generalized cultural similarities. The Toon RPG is great for simulating Hanna-Barara cartoons, but terrible for Transformers... but, hey, those are both cartoons so one Cartoon Genre Book will do just fine? No, no it won't. The same with Japanese Animation.

Jhaierr got a reaction from mallet in How would you price this Limitation?
This suggestion may miss the mark, but you could potentially write it up as 3d6 Healing, Constant (+½), can only be used at 1d6 Healing each phase (-½), your other limitations here (-x), and it would give you 1d6 (~3.5 BODY) per phase, up to a maximum of 18 BODY healed, each dice of effect taking one extra phase. So on average, you would heal 10-11 BODY in three Phases, but could go for more. (To increase the maximum effect with Healing, you must increase the number of Healing dice.) As you increase your Healing dice, the other limitations would stay the same, although one could argue that the "can only be used at 1d6 Healing each phase" limitation might be more limiting than -½. I would disagree, as the Constant advantage mitigates this.

Thank you for the welcome. I'm using the 6th Edition PDFs. Right now, I'm still working on getting the framework for my setting laid out. I do need to create some of the more important NPC's, though, which is part of why I'm here. I hope I can pick up some tips on worldbuilding and on creating memorable & unique NPCs.

How did you come up with your 'handle' (forum name)?
It's the Scottish form of one of the names I go by offline.

What was the first tabletop RPG you played?
    Champions, a few months ago.

What was the first tabletop RPG you GMed?
I still haven't quite gotten there yet.

    What are you currently playing/GMing?
Nothing; I am working on a 1950's alternate history Champions campaign that I intend to run within a year.

How did you come up with your 'handle' (forum name)?
"Jhaierr" is the name of a character from a fantasy world created by myself and a friend. He is a panther-like warrior prince of the feline humanoid race.
What was the first tabletop RPG you played?
    Middle Earth Role-Playing (MERP)
What was the first tabletop RPG you GMed?
Middle Earth Role-Playing (MERP) - In fact, I began as a GM.
    What are you currently playing/GMing?
Nothing, unfortunately. I was most recently GMing a superhero Champions 6E game online with friends, but I had to put it on hold during my internship and while I finish the last year of grad school.

    Hello there!
How did you come up with your 'handle' (forum name)? It's the name of one of my characters on Champions Online - she's in my avatar as well.
What was the first tabletop RPG you played? Dungeons and Dragons... Probably 3.5? I'm relatively new to the tabletop scene (at least, compared to some of you who seem to have been at this much longer than me!)
What was the first tabletop RPG you GMed? None yet... But I'm in the process of setting up my first game - of Champions! I'm really looking forward to it.  I've never done this before, but it should be a lot of fun.
What are you currently playing/GMing? See above.

I'm totally here because of the Champions Online MMO - when I learned it was based off a tabletop RPG I took it upon myself to track down the books - ended up with a pile of 6E books and an urge to start a campaign. Still in the planning stages, but I hope to start by early November.

This is nothing new to say (in fact is blindingly obvious), but I can only imagine that SW and M&M outsell Hero in the superhero (and other) arenas due to the graphics and layout.  I own products from all three lines, and M&M in particular simply drips superheroic action on every page, with visually interesting characters and use of color layout to make the reading easy on the eyes.   I know in my heart it is not as good a system, but the bells and whistles get me enthused  to play a supers rpg on a weird, instinctual level.  Don't get me wrong, the 6ed books were a step in the right direction with quality color art, but Green Ronin has taken it up a notch or two.  If we could just mix their chocolate with Hero's peanut butter. . . .

I dunno about this. It would be nice if they could have done impacts at an oblique angle; I am all but certain the results would look nothing like real impact craters. It's clear that surface tension is perhaps the dominant force in their videos after the initial strike, while impact cratering is hypersonic so everything happens faster than any internal material forces. Because the incoming bolide penetrates several times its size into the surface before its back side realizes anything has happened; the result is that it vaporizes at depth and excavates the crater with that explosion, which is why approximately all impact craters start off as circular independent of angle of impact with the surface. What happens after the blast depends on the size of the crater, as gravity, rock strength, rarefaction mechanics, etc., don't scale in the same way as that initial excavating explosion.

If you feel that people are trying to bully you into identifying yourself as a cis male, you are overly sensitive (I know that commenting on the validity of other peoples feeling is not PC, but I thought you would appreciate that).

The terms cis male and cis female are used primarily in LGBT discussions, and by people trying to give an LGBT perspective on a particular issue.  Now it is fine to say "hand me the wrench" when you are dealing with a small toolbox which has only one kind of wrench.  When your tool box contains a socket wrench, a crescent wrench, a pipe fitter wrench, a monkey wrench and assorted combination wrenches it pays to be specific when asking for a wrench.  The LGBT world has a lot of types of wrenches.  Having a quick way of indicating that you are talking about someone whose biological sex, gender identity, and sexuality all match up with societal expectation can be very helpful at times.

Now, you want your personal gender/sexuality combo to the default, requiring no prefix even in LGBT discussions, while all other gender variants receive some sort of label (homo, bi, trans, cross dressing, etc.).  Well I can see why you would want that, but I can't see why the LGBT should concede that to you.  Certainly not if your best argument is to point to chromosomes.  You've already conceded that alternate gender/sexuality have been shown different neurologically structures compared to the "norm".  This has been established by multiple studies.  It is a fact as you say.  That it might be quicker to do a chromosome test or look at what is between someones legs than do a head CT, is irrelevant.  As I pointed out the cis prefix outside of organic chemistry is used mostly in discussion of gender identity and sexuality.  Neurological structures often trump gross anatomy in these matters and it is perfectly legitimate that the language of these discussions reflect this.

Boldly stated, but mostly BS, and totally BS in the current context.

Language is the battlefield upon which wars of idea if fought.  However, it is also common ground upon which peace treaties for those wars are forged.  If one side totally wins the linguistic war, then your soldiers are terrorist, your religion is heresy and your natural sexual practices are perversions.  At that point, your conscience, expressions and thoughts are truly straight jacketed.  However, what passes for political correctness is not at that point.  It is mostly just an effort to be polite to others who are different than you and yours. Having the linguistic tools to respectfully speak to one another is an aid to open dialogue, not an impediment. The restrictions that are placed by mainstream PC speech* are rarely a serious impediment to free expressions of ideas unless the idea that is being expressed is that their group of people is inferior to your group of people.

Certainly the term cis gendered poses little danger of straight jacketeding expression.  It is merely a particular gender/sexuality that happens to be yours and you want it to be the default even in discussions where a range of gender identities are being discussed.  Well tough. You don't get to have it that way.

*Note the description of wives as "unpaid sex workers" never caught on and has never been the official PC term for them

I think you overlooked, "Take precautions, fine." The point is that we don't do much about teaching boys about respecting someone else's choices; we all too often place the responsibility of preventing rape on girls' shoulders instead. We should help women to defend themselves against others, but the bulk of the work should be in primary prevention (i.e., working on interventions for men who might take advantage of women). I'm not talking about grabbing women in parking garages and raping them; I'm talking about coercion, manipulation, taking advantage of inebriation, etc. The messages that we get from our culture tell us that women are here to please (heterosexual) men, and we have to work on undoing this in some way if we are going to create a better world where everyone understands what consent is. For those that don't or refuse, yes, take precautions against them.

Even if she really is a "dishonest, manipulative, ignorant schemer", which I don't believe, that still just makes her just another internet troll and that doesn't make her deserving of death threats and rape threats.  If there are guys out there getting significantly more harassment for the same "crimes", they don't deserve it either.
