  1. Re: So I'm working on a possible future campaign... It depends on how hard you want to work, but I would suggest using Hudson City, since it is already written up. Either that or create a totally fictional city, because you'll always have some smartass that will call you on some piddly thing you forgot about the real city that your campaign is based in.
  2. Re: A TARDIS in the Batcave I think it would be against the flavor of the Doctor to have a calvacade of companions. He never seems to travel with more than three assistants. Even when he was Earth-based, he really only had four (Brigadier, Yates, Benton & Jo). Having more than that in a new "Marooned Doctor" yarn would be stretching it.
  3. Re: HCPD - The 13th District (Campaign Idea) Here are HTML versions of the old campaign logs. I don't believe that this is a full account of our adventures, but it is useful to see campaign flavor.

  5. Re: [What If?] Islam replaces Christianity If we go with the theories that either Christianity didn't expand into Europe or that Christians sought refuge in the New World as Islam took hold, I am left to wonder whether there would have been a Renaissance or Age of Enlightenment. Knowledge that went against the status quo would have been discredited or quashed. Imagine Galileo stating his astronomical theories and, instead of being chastised by the Pope and excommunicated, Grand Imam Hussein and his Mullahs branded him a heretic and had him executed. Who else would be bold enough to come forward and face death when their ideas went against the establishment? This would lead to a learned underground that passed banned scholarly ideas through an information black market. Anyone who had the means would have found escape in the United Kingdom. I envision the British Isles as being geographically separated and therefore less likely to be conquered. Eventually these scholars might make their way across the sea. That leads to the theory of exodus in the wake of a wave of Islamic warriors. If Christians, Jews and other Pagan religions migrated to North America, it is likely that renaissance and enlightenment would have taken place there instead. That being the case, it would not spread to Europe with the same fervor. This “brain drain” would make North America and its associates home to all of the innovations that happened in Europe IRL, and they would eventually trickle into European countries as they became more secular.
  6. Re: Regrettable Disads In a Dark Champions game I played a techie/security cracker, and my GM let me take a Psych Lim of Reluctant to Kill but luckily he wasn't so anal as to penalize me for committing justifiable homicide when I killed a man who was trying to stab me to death.
  7. Re: Foxbat....Where can I find Him?
  8. Re: HCPD - The 13th District (Campaign Idea) The World of Dark Champions could be a good source for flavor, although our characters were anywhere from 200-400 points. Our characters were criminals or fringe-types that were blackmailed or coerced by the MIB to work in their interests. We used a combination of tech and magic to deal with our foes, and it has been said that technology that is sufficiently advanced is indistinguishable from magic. I think D13 could have a mix of different types. Maybe there is a squad that is outfitted with powered armor and another squad of wizards, shaman, and mages. Yet another squad could be a group that concentrates on counteracting supernatural events using advance technology. One other aspect, which is Lovecraftian, is not to have D13 always defeat their supernatural enemies, but maybe just to stave off doomsday for one more day after barely surviving an encounter with Things That Man Was Not Meant To Know.
  9. Game Over Well, it has been quite a while since I posted, and there are several reasons. First off, I started back to college full time while working full time and that is taking up much of my time. That in and of itself wouldn't be explanation enough for why the game hasn't continued. The other half of that explanation is that one of my players took a job out of state and the other one is in jail, and if the charges are true he may stay there for a while. Even if they aren't true, I don't want to take the chance of hanging out with him anymore. Therefore, without further ado, as GM I declare this campaign to be the dream of a little boy named Tommy, who watched too many episodes of Twin Peaks and didn't know how to tie all of his loose end plotlines together anyway. As disappointing and strange as these turn of events are, I am not discouraged. I am currently developing a new plotline in the same universe, which may contain some of the same NPCs. I have three interested parties and perhaps a fourth. I am, however, going to change my campaign log from the current screenplay-esque format I've been using to more of a synopsis style. That's just because writing in the current format is kind of a pain in the ass and it takes too long considering my time constraints. When the new game starts, I will try for once every two weeks, and maybe this one will survive sans incarceration.
  10. Re: Help Me Populate A Creepy Hotel I just thought of a creepy reoccuring event: In the area where they have their continental breakfast, there is one table that has a brownish stain on it. When the PC notices it, it looks vaguely like a handprint, and has the consistancy of a coffee stain. If the PC tries to wash it away, it comes up with a little elbow grease, but the next day it is back, possibly a little darker. If someone takes the initiative to cover it with a light-colored tablecloth, the portion of the tablecloth over the stain is immediately saturated with fresh blood.
  11. Re: Cthulhu-esque suggestions? I remember playing a CoC mod that was highly influenced by The Thing on the Doorstep where certain NPCs weren't who they appeared to be. I don't remember everything that happened in the mod, but I still get an icky feeling when I remember my character's girlfriend was really her father possing her body. That's the kind of thing that sticks with you. Another thing that added to the dread, IMHO, was just the randomness of violence. Sure, we were mostly helpless against the dreaded evil, but nothing pounded that home more than one of our party walking near a cave and having Nylarhotep spring out of its mouth and devour one of us while the rest watched. Did we lose some sanity? I think so, but it was creepy and fun. One of my suggestions might be for a survival/horror mix: Your party is not in the city, but maybe in Plaquemines or St. Bernard Parish, cut off from the world and assaulted by zombified corpses and animals in the one island of dry land as the Mississippi and Gulf rush to wash out your last bastion of hope. Can you hold out till the National Guard arrives or will you try and get 4 people on a fan-boat built for two and high-tail it? In any event, you will have to confront the mystery behind your zombie attackers, assuming you survive.
  12. Re: Slumming it: Champions/Dark Champions Game The Mirage would have to sacrifice all of his mental powers and just go it alone with his amateur wrestling skills and gadget pool.
  13. Re: Help Me Populate A Creepy Hotel Wasn't there a guy like this in the Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy or one of those other Douglas Adams books?
  14. Re: Weekend Warriors -- Campaign Log In defense of the Weekend Warriors, and the GM, I have to say that 3 canisters of CS gas in an enclosed room would be enough to incapacitate 20 adults with ease, and I am speaking from experience. In Army basic training a group of 10-20 recruits are placed in a 10x20 foot room with a diluted CS solution and then instructed to remove their gas masks. Although they are instructed to breathe normally, and this actually mitigates the effects, many panic and take in a large gulp of contaminated air. This leads to shortness of breath, more panic and deeper gulps, exacerbating an already dire condition. When I was subjected to this training, I had excessive tearing in my eyes, an extremely runny nose and a sore throat. Also my exposed skin felt like I had received a second degree sunburn. I would assume that the WW team was using military grade CS. In a back-of-a-dive meeting room, anyone left unprotected would face extreme skin irritation and shortness of breath. The nose and throat would fill with mucous and the eyes would swell shut in short order. In fact, "Luke" should have been at a penalty ranged OCV for the whole combat, for even the brief exposure he would have received before he masked.
