  2. Re: [Demo] Jason at the Mages Realm, Sacramento CA, Saturday Sept. 29 Game went very well, with Jason giving a great mix of just enough suspense and uncertainty, a bit of oddness, and some obscure mythological/historical stuff. The group was relaxed and fun while keeping a focus on the game most of the time. The quote of the evening was Jason's description of the villains as "The creme de la crap." Had to leave a little early (game started a bit late and had to drive back to Bay Area.), so don't know how it ended.
  3. Re: LHC 'Malfunction' No Accident? Well, don't often do thread necromancy, but this is interesting news. http://scitech.blogs.cnn.com/2009/11/06/baguette-toting-bird-stalls-atom-smasher/ http://www.crunchgear.com/2009/11/05/breaking-large-hadron-collider-shut-down-by-precision-bird-strike/
  4. Re: New Product: Crystalline Counters [accessory] Hey Guys, Here's a link to a higher-res image from the 3 Sages Web Site http://threesagesgames.com/product-images/5-25-combo.jpg The only photoshop work I did was merging the image of the tube onto the background shot. Tom
  5. Re: superuseless superpowers Hmm... How about... Buckaroo Bonzai Power... Wherever you go, there you are: Teleportation, always on, persistent, 0 end, must pass through intervening space, only to one fixed location (location is inside clothes currently worn), power limitation (if not wearing clothes, total power loss)

  11. Re: Disads for Dana Scully Hmm... Hunted: The Lone Gunmen, More Powerful, 11-, Watched = 10 Points I put them as More Powerful; while they don't have the FBI resources to call upon, they are fairly powerful individuals in that universe and they have an almost unlimited freedom of movement and action. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Lone_Gunmen p.s. The first batch of non-superhero characters I ever wrote for the Hero System were Mulder, Scully, Colombo, Monk, and the then-sidekick of Monk (Sharona)
  12. Re: Has anybody played "Spirit of the Century" FATE and Fudge are specifically rules-light systems. In that aspect, they are on the opposite side of the spectrum from Hero and will deliver a different feel of play when "Bang! Bang! I shot first, Billy! No, I shot first Bobby!" components (ie. mechanics) are activated. I play both Hero and Fudge because sometimes I want a crunchy-munchy candy bar, sometimes I want silky-smooth ice cream Read most of Spirit a few months back, but haven't had a chance to play it yet so can't say how FATE works in an actual game as opposed to older more-or-less-standardized "Five Point Fudge" From the read, I really like the way in which character generation is a collaborative effort between all of the players. Also of note is the optional "wait to set your skill slot until you do it (and then backstory it )" which is definitely the feel I personally get from watching the occasional old film serial of the 30's and 40's.

  14. Re: Gestalt is Online Hey Scott! Glad to hear the train trip went smoothly (My flights went smoothly, but as always some folk ended up playing "where was my connector changed to?" roulette at the airport.) GenCon was a great show and I've got some freelance work that's taking up most of my time at the moment. I've managed to give a few small chunks of Gestalt a full read... WOW.. there is a ton of some really amazing stuff in there. Steal Away Jordan was also my IPR purchase at the show. I find the historical perspective amazing and really hits home to someone used to 'standard' roleplaying situations. How many games do you roleplay a character that starts out with the "+5 vorpal sword" constantly about to come down on his neck? As you said, it isn't everyone's cup of tea, but that's one of the greatest things about this industry and human beings in general. Also picked up a couple of DOJ books, but you probably guessed that
  15. Re: Faerie's Tale I was part of the Firefly Games booth crew this year at GenCon Any Advice for Running FT at Conventions & Similar Venue A lot of people were talking about running games at conventions (particularly in YP rooms) and after-school programs. Thought I'd start a thread on that board for folk to share GMing advice with each other.
