  1. Re: What Have You Watched Recently? Season 3 ep 1 of Black Lagoon. Storyline is Roberta's Blood Trail. Interesting so far. and yes, the Yellow Flag gets trashed again.
  2. Re: Five Point Palm Exploding Heart Technique A killing NND might work. The Dim Mak from the book doesn't work for me. Body Drain and Str Drain with a gradual effect fits the Dim Mak fine. But the FPPEHT or the 100 Step Soul Catching Fist it was based on work a little differently. Delayed effect is based on movement, though it can still be cured with Chinese Medicine. Seems to do immediate damage then followed by the lethal damage after a certain number of steps, which can be represented as movement over a certain number of hexes under the targets own power. Rigid Armor, force field, or inhuman physiology should be enough to stop it.
  3. I did a search on this and didn't find much. Ideas on how to build this?
  4. Re: open Beta for Preorders? Yep, the fun of beta. I'll just wait and try later. I'll be logging in when the game releases, just hoping for a advanced peek.
  5. Re: open Beta for Preorders? The link Fileplanet provides requires me to be a paid member of Fileplanet to download the game, or to have a preorder key. But yes, sounds like the usual fun during the start of open beta. Stress testing everything to make sure it can survive the real launch.
  6. Re: open Beta for Preorders? I apparently missed the bit where they said open beta was only available to pre orders. Tsk.
  7. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group... A few bits and pieces from my Hell's Gate Open game (Hellsing meets Witchhunter Robin meets Black Lagoon) Ian O'Toole has just found he needs to infiltrate a bondage party to follow up an investigation. Ian (on celphone): Teng, do you know anything about bondage? Master Teng: How did you know I met a girl tonight? --------------------------------------------------------------- I really didn't think this through... GM: The guards are armed with handguns and uzis. Rory's Player: The Islamic prison guards are using Israeli sub-machineguns? --------------------------------------------------------------- Ian's back from the party. Ian: We could be attacked, have the guards be on the lookout for anything unusual. Rory: Like you dressed in bondage gear? Ian: ... I forgot to change.... ---------------------------------------------------------------
  8. Re: Black Lagoon HERO Just got my copy Friday and it looks awesome. I much prefer watching it on my TV instead of my computer. At some point I might even work up the courage to listen to the dubs.
  9. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group... Said OOC: "Your character doesn't have martial throw? What kind of martial artist is he?" "A swordsman."
  10. Re: Dark Champions the Anime Series I'll need to look at it from home to really think about it. But the basics all look good. I'd be tempted to give both speed 5, but that's probably overkill. Gin and Revy do seem to be moving at a different speed than everyone else, but if everyone else is 3, then it works. I've never been a big fan of rounding up on Com. I think Gin's KS is about right. He doesn't sound really plugged into the day to day, and it's obvious he's been 'retired' for a time before returning. Assuming levels split he can do 10/13 OCV/DCV. Revy can do ... 14/12? I'm assuming the ranged will go on offense. Of course, when Gin was closing the range he was probably half move and dodging. So this seems about right. I can see Gin having a psych about wishing for a normal life. He seems very content when he's not Man Killing Gin, and seems like he'd prefer to take the girl away to live a quiet life. But his honor doesn't allow this. Paradoxically, despite warning Revy that she'll only fight him if she's unlucky, he clearly relishes the challenge of fighting Revy when it comes down to it. Gin's damage is massive. 1 1/2 d6 with the sword. Deadly blow makes the base damage 2 1/2 d6. Strength would make it 3 1/2 d6. +2 DC for Slash is 4d6+1. This seems a little high.
  11. Re: Dark Champions the Anime Series I may skip charges. Hirano has said Anderson basically carries an unlimited number of bayonets. I like the idea someone mentioned that Anderson probably carries one blade, then does a fishes and loaves thing with the blade to produce the hordes of bayonets. In the both the manga and anime we do very clearly see Anderson spread an attack or using some type of area effect.
  12. Re: Dark Champions the Anime Series Hmm..I was a little careless in the wording. I'm mainly referring to the auto fire and that we never see just some of the blades hit. When he uses it, they all seem to hit. He'll get a couple of area affect attacks as well, like his Explosive Guidance Chain, as well as his basic long bayonet hand to hand attack.
  13. Re: Dark Champions the Anime Series Mostly anime related. I'm working on a Paladin Alexander Anderson manga write up for Hellsing. I've been considering his bayonet flurry attacks and wondering if Autofire is the best way to handle them. He never seems to miss, so when he throws 10 bayonets all ten will hit. Which almost sounds like a special effect of a ranged killing attack. I'm still debating this though, and would like some additional input.

  15. My original notes on my game can be found here. After a brief hiatus while someone else ran their game, we're back for season two. At least, that was what I joked when I paused the game was that season 1 was over, if they ratings were good enough there would be a season 2. Newly Named NPCs was something I started doing when a nameless thug does something memorable thanks to a good roll or the RP. If the thug survives, then they'll be coming back, if only for comic relief in one case. Season 1 Synopsis is as follows: 1. Holiday in Haiti The group is sent to Haiti to rescue a local Voudoun who had agreed to assist the Helsing Insitute in researching Voodoo. After some minor skirmishes they tracked down to kidnappers to a rival group and attacked their base, a formerly abandoned mansion. While rescuing the Voudoun they encountered a zombie that showed more intelligence and purpose than was common. The voudoun revealed he'd been kidnapped because he stole a demon artifact from his rival that would allow him to trap souls inot dead bodies. The intelligent zombie was the only one made before the artifact was stolen. The group chased down the rival voudoun and stole the artifact, a golden bowl engraved with infernal script, but was forced to flee to infernal zombie who was still chasing them, finally sending him over a cliff with one of their cars. The group destroyed the bowl, then later research revealed that the bowl was required to destroy the infernal zombie. Loose Ends: The group encountered a mysterious 'Max' who was said to be a very powerful necromancer. He was buying barrels of a substance he had specially made to assist necromancers in raising zombies on a large scale. No one believed they had seen the last of the infernal zombie. 2. Vampires in San Angelo PART (Praeternatural Action Response Team), the division of the San Angelo police just created to deal with supernatural crimes, requests assistance from the Helsing Institute. Vampires are being killed and they lack the occult knowledge to handle the weirder aspects of the case. The group discovered that whoever was killing vampires had some real occult knowledge and had their first brushes with Humans Against Vampires, a PAC legally working to harass vampires while pushing for an amendment to make them illegal again. The group also fought with Humans First, a radical splinter of HAV that was using violence instead of picketing. The group checked out the local vampires and found the mysterious Master of the City was waiting to see if human justice would stop vampires from being killed. In the meantime, he was willing to sacrifice a few young vampires to see how this worked. The group connected HAV to the killings and investigated. Frank was captured and tortured by HAV before the group rescued him. Further investigation revealed the wererats were really behind the killings. The local wererats were trying to set them up as the true power in the city, and their first step in making the vampires look weak was the killings. The group put a stop to this, killing the brother of the wererat alpha in the process. Loose ends: HAV and Humans First are still out there and pissed off at the group. Diego Cruz, the wererat alpha, has sworn vengeance against the group. Newly Named NPCs: Scarface: Nameless thug who tortured Frank, then had his face crushed when Frank got free. He'll be back after some reconstructive surgery. Stumpy: Nameless wererat the group had a vicious fight with. Had him tail cut off by Master Teng. He'll be back for revenge. 3. New Orleans meets Millennium Hurricane Katrina devastated New Orleans, but this was only the start. As the water started to rise, a surprisingly large number of zombies started to appear, attacking and eating people. both the numbers and ferocity of the zombies let authorities to believe this was not some random incident. Once the group arrived to consult they found a military helicopter on the way to the Superdome had been shot down under mysterious circumstances. They investigated and found that the numerous rounds that had riddled the helicopter were actually a single shot, a musket ball infused with demonic energy. The group fought zombies, demon cultists, demon dogs and met flamboyant Brandenburg Hex, an occultist who claimed to be the adopted brother of John Hex. Further investigation revealed a pattern to the zombie attacks that seemed calculated to drive people toward the Superdome. The group were informed that a passenger plane had been shot down over New Orleans, but the contacts of a couple members revealed it had been a special military mission to test a new weapon against undead, a extremely short lived virus that would devour all flesh in an area then die off. The weapon had been stolen by the time the group arrived to investigate, though they confirmed the same demonic musket that shot down the helicopter also shot down the plane. A nervous Brandenburg Hex directed the group to a spot where they could find who was behind this. the group encountered Lt. Van Winkle, a tall thin cheerful vampire with an ancient looking musket. The vampire revealed she was with Millennium, a group that planned to start a war 'like hell on earth'. Van Winkle was significantly tougher than any vampire the group had previously faced and they barely escaped into the sunlight. They rushed back to the Superdome, realizing Brandenburg Hex planned to sacrifice tens of thousands of people inside. They arrived just in time to stop him from using the virus to kill everyone and instead he was infected with then virus. Loose ends: What is Millennium, and who is this mysterious vampire with the demonic musket, and why are they trying to devastate earth? Max's zombie juice was used to raise the masses of zombies involved. How is he involved in this? The infernal zombie made an appear again and seemed to be after Rory, the only one in the group able to make the bowl that can destroy him. The zombie also seemed more intelligent then before. 4. Trick or Treat! A local shop keeper asks Master Teng for help with a ghost. Teng investigates by himself and is slimed by a ghostly girl, while the shop is rattled by and things are knocked over by some invisible force. The others show up to help Teng and the investigation reveals it's not a real haunting. Instead some witches are involved who seem to have a grudge against the shop keeper. The shopkeeper admits to turning a girl over to the police for shop lifting. The police had no record of this, the officer in question furtively claimed to have given the girl a talking to and let her go. Further investigation using talents not admissible in a court of law revealed the policeman had tried selling the girl to the local tong, but she had escaped with some help. Staking out the police car and shop allowed the group to catch the small group of runaway kid witches harassing the shop keeper and the cop while seeking revenge. After some false starts, the group managed to calm down the kids and are trying to help them now. Loose ends: Officer Humphrey Cavendish is suspected of being a dirty cop. The group is 100% sure he's crooked but can't prove it in a court of law. 5. The Bow of Kali Alexander Monday wakes up one morning to a visit from the police, finding himself the chief suspect in the theft of a mystical artifact known as the Bow of Kali. The case is thin enough that Monday is not immediately arrested but much of the news coverage is slanted toward his guilt, while skirting the line of libel carefully. Working with their contacts in PART, the group determines that someone had broken into the museum and stolen the bow, leaving a less than perfect copy in it's place. An old enemy of Monday, a retired FBI who had been chasing him for years, was happy to confirm the the theft used the normal techniques Monday would use. The group investigated who would buy the bow, had a run in with the Thuggees, who were also after the bow, discovered that very likely the source of the frame was a very wealthy businessman Monday had stolen from a few years ago. The thief was someone trained by the same thief who trained Monday. She tried holding out for more cash and ended up in a ton of trouble as well. the group ended up breaking up the meeting where the bow was to be turned over to the fixer who arranged the deal. The bow was recovered, but the PCs had second thoughts. So Monday created a perfect fake and the group cooperated with an occult order that specializes in destroying artifacts that threaten the safety of the world to destroy the bow for good. Hopefully. Newly Named NPC: Rebecca. Formerly GunGirl #1. Despite having the same mediocre thug stats as all the other thugs in a battle, managed to hit the PC's with almost every shot she tried, wounding two pretty badly before she was knocked out. Could change this to Revy... 6. On 'Hunting Banshees' (Thee Ancient O'Tuile Wae). The group's assistance is requested by a local sheriff in Nevada, where the body of a 23 year old man was found...apparently dead of old age. By the time the group had arrived at the location, currently covered in a blizzard, military intelligence was already in the area, taking over the investigation from the local police and impounding evidence. The group used their government contacts to find out there had been an experiment in the area that had gone wrong, but could find no other details. They determined that the deceased had been traveling with another man and tracked him to the hunting lodge he had broken into for shelter. The man admitted he'd been part of a research team trying to create a sound that would kill people, when used in a particular way or on a particular frequency. The research had not been going well but the group's old friend Max was brought in to consult and hit upon the idea of summoning a banshee and recording the shrieks. He knew where one was imprisoned and a way to bind her. the binding had gone wrong and everyone except Max and the two men who had fled were killed. And the banshee is still after both. the group struggled to fight off the banshee's first attack, but research revealed that the banshee also had a connection to the O'Toole brothers, more specifically she maybe have been a nicer fae and become a banshee based on being betrayed by their ancestor. The group did their best to make the hunting lodge banshee proof and seemed to succeed. Instead, the Banshee attacked Max, who had shown up to take a direct roll in the government operations. The group managed to save her from being bound by Max, then took some time to repeatedly shoot Max while he was down. Rory ran out to keep the banshee from being killed and managed to talk the rest of the group into also agreeing not to kill her, if the banshee promised to not kill anyone but Max. Which she agreed to. Loose Ends: An examination of Max's body revealed he had transferred his spirit from that body before he died, so he's still at large. One of his assistants also escaped with a significant portion of the Banshee's power. 7. All Out Wererat Attack: San Angelo SOS! The group was called in to assist PART in a wererat attack on a triad business. They were quickly put on the trail of Stumpy. But during the attempt to arrest him, most of PART were badly wounded or killed by an ambush that also left two group members in the hospital. The group soon learned that the wererats had been conducting some very heavy training and her accepted in some new members with military or terrorist backgrounds. Against all tradition, they had even somehow gotten body armor that would fit a shifter lycanthrope and found weapons to use including LAW rockets. JD got the FBI involved and they took over the investigation. But an attempt to deal with the wererats by the FBI was ambushed again and two swat teams massacred, though the group helped and managed to kill two of the were rats as well. By this point the group was very suspicious of what was going on and managed to confirm that the FBI were infiltrated by a Millennium agent who was working with the wererats to heighten tensions and try to provoke a war between humans and the supernatural. Though all the wererats knew was that they were trying to take control of the city's supernatural community and were being persecuted because of vampire influence with the government. The group confronted Diego Cruz at a safe location but could not persuade him to back off. But they were contacted by another wererat named Roland Black who hinted to the PC's that if something happened to Cruz, he's next in line to take over and would be much more friendly to them. While the FBI cracked down no all supernatural activity and groups like HAV tried to raise the tension, the group worked to stop plots that would have made it look like the lycanthropes were attacking humans without provocation. The group managed to foil an attempted sacrifice that would have brought the werewolves in on the side of the wererats and provoked a final battle with Diego Cruz that left the wererat leader and his chief followers dead. Roland Black took over and ended the war, cooperating fully with the local authorities in helping find the wererats who had broken the law. Loose Ends: Again Millennium, who's involvement in this was mostly just stirring up the trouble behind the scenes. But this is the second time the group has run into supernatural beings using technology they traditionally never touched, and both times it's involved Millennium.
  16. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group... From our Friday night game. (The group's money is tied up in an account where half the group has to vote before someone can remove money.) Timmy: I'll need money to add an air supply to my motorcycle helmet. Rev: Like I'm voting for that. Jade: All he has to do is walk up and say 'Hey, everyone. I have a way to look even dorkier than I do right now.' and I'll vote for it. Jack-Jack: Seconded! --------------------------------------------------- (The group has just captured a person with air powers.) Ana: Tie her to the floor. She probably can't use her powers while in contact with the ground. Jade: We're on the second floor. ---------------------------------------------------- GM: So, is the van you were riding in stolen? Rev (OOC): I thought we bought it. Ana (OOC): I thought we stole it. Jade (OOC): How about the money to buy a car was given to Jade, who stole the van and kept the money. Rev (OOC): I can see that. ----------------------------------------------------
  17. Re: Civil War in the Champions Universe! Amusing to read, though it neatly dodges the tough issues like what do Defender and friends do when Primus shows up to arrest the non registered superheros for violating the law.
  18. Re: Dark Champions the Anime Series It's kind of tempting to write of LaGarche the stoned getaway driver on 50+50 points. We know next to nothing about him, so there would be some parts that are just made up, but he know his basic skills and he'd be a fun one or two shot character for some games.
  19. Might still need some editing, but for now this is the final version. Murray: Is it true what they're sayin', he's some kinda vampire? Clarice Starling: They don't have a name for what he is. He was the descendent of warlord 'Hannibal the Grim' on his fathers side and of the Visconti and Sforza families of Milan on his mother's side. However, Hannibal’s happy childhood was destroyed by World War II. His parents were killed by a dive bomber and his beloved sister was eaten by deserts and bandits during an unusually harsh winter. Hannibal survived but was traumatized by the experience. He was sent to live with his uncle in Paris, France and went on to study medicine there. He also discovered leads to where the deserts who killed his sister were and hunted them down, killing them and practicing his first steps into cannibalism. Lecter served his internship at John Hopkins in Baltimore and afterwards he established a psychiatric practice in the city, becoming well known in high society circles for his patronage of the arts and his excellent cooking skills. He also at times assisted the police in investigations. This included FBI Detective Will Graham, who was assigned to find the 'Chesapeake Ripper'. Graham discovered the Ripper was Lecter and despite being critically wounded, he managed to shoot Lecter. The police arrived in time to take Hannibal into custody and get Graham to a hospital in time to save his life. Lecter's trial was a sensation, making him the most famous serial killer in the US and probably the world. He was found insane and confined to an asylum. While incarcerated he assigned the FBI in four more serial killer cases, in two of those cases aiding in the discovery of the killer while trying to arrange for Detective Graham to be killed as well. The last and most famous of these cases was when he gave information to FBI trainee Clarice Starling catch 'Buffalo Bill'. Hannibal was moved into the custody of the Memphis police during this and escaped with little trouble, killing two police officers, two EMTs and one tourist before escaping the country. He spent time in South America before moving to Florence under the name Dr. Fell. He took a post as a museum curator (after killing the previous curator to open up the position). But he was investigated by corrupt Italian detective Rinaldo Pazzi. Hannibal ambushed and killed Pazzi, discovering former victim Mason Verger was behind it. At the same time Mason was manipulating events to disgrace Starling in the FBI to help draw in Lecter. Lecter was actually captured by Verger briefly before Starling saved him, but she was shot by a thug and taken away by Hannibal after he convinced Verger's physician to kill Verger and claim Hannibal did it. Hannibal mended Starlings injuries and drugged her while setting up an elaborate meal involving the brains of a captured, corrupt Justice Department Official. Starling resisted his attempts to lure her to his point of view and almost captured him, locking him to her with a set of handcuffs while the police closed in. Hannibal cut off his own hand and made his escape. His current whereabouts are unknown. Personality/Motivation: Hannibal Lecter can be surprisingly friendly for someone with his reputation. He is almost always polite and well spoken. His calm is almost inhuman. He's protective of children and animals. He's a social chameleon who can be extremely charming. But beneath that he's a conscienceless monster who can just as easily be malevolent and savage. Perhaps because of the abuse he went through as a child, he's protective of children and even has a rapport with animals. Hannibal is supremely contemptuous of most of humanity, though. He remarks to Will Graham "You caught me because we're very much alike. Without our imaginations, we'd be like all those other poor... dullards." He is brilliant. He knows it. And he likes demonstrating it with the mind games he's famous for. Hannibal is as casual a killer as you are ever likely to find. It doesn't bother him or excite him, it's simply one of many things to do in a day. Listen to Handel's Hallelujah Chorus. Kill Pazzi gruesomely. Pick of dry cleaning on the way to the airport. Hannibal will kill ruthlessly out of necessarily, but his main attention is reserved for people who offend his sensibilities. Even if only by trying to quantify him as a normal person, like the census taker did. Lastly, Hannibal is insane. Lector’s insanity means he has a few things he can’t make an ego roll to resist. Playing mind games, for example. He likes to get into the minds of people. Find out what makes them tick. Hannibal would not have been caught if he could have resisted the temptation to work with Will Graham in trying to catch himself. He would have had a better chance of escaping from the asylum sooner if he had not attacked the nurse. Quote: A census taker once tried to test me. I ate his liver with some fava beans and a nice chianti. Powers/Tactics: When it comes to violence, Hannibal is an ambush predator. He knows he is not great in a stand up fight, but his stealth is excellent and he has a way of putting people off guard. So he'll wait until their back is turned, or sneak up on them and do a called shot to a vital point like the throat or groin and try to kill in one stroke. He's also been known to use cinematic chlorophorm. Thanks to his exceptional perception, it's tough to force him into a fight he's not ready for. Both his sense of hearing and smell are uncanny and border on superhuman. Hannibal's main power is his brilliant intellect. He's exceptionally perceptive and can tell quite a bit about people in a very short period of time. And then use that knowledge to torment and toy with his foes. If he knows someone is hunting him, he'll make an effort to meet the person face to face so he can get a feel for them, and then the mind games start. He's a master of probing, uncomfortable questions and getting people to open up about things they would normally not reveal. He's also skilled a getting people to underestimate him. Even experienced police officers seem to forget that the calm, mild mannered older man they are guarding is also a ruthless murderer. Appearance: Hannibal Lecter is a Caucasian male in his late 50's to early 60's. His dark hair has started to gray, coming down to a widow's peak in front. His eyes are maroon and flash red in the proper light. A little shorter than average height, his presence and dignity instantly make him stand out. He tends to hold himself erect and formal and often tilts his head when listening to or considering something, much like an animal. He has a very slight European accent. He is unfailingly polite and soft spoken, even while murdering someone. The Mind of Hannibal: From an early age Hannibal learned the Memory Palace method for memorizing things. Essentially memories are tied to locations or loci within in mind and can be brought back up like walking through a palace. So someone with telepathy getting into his mind could easy end up in a maze of scents, books, speeches and conversations, as well as finding darker oubliettes with painful or dangerous memories. And this is assuming the telepath can get past his mental defenses. Hannibal's MO: If the PC's have to hunt Hannibal, they'll find a few things out quickly based on the normal profiles of serial killers. A Caucasian, older and highly intelligence. Despite his disdain for the terminology, Hannibal is very much a classic Organized Serial Killer. He picks his victims carefully based on certain known patterns, in this case people who are rude, offensive and annoying. He inevitably makes social contact with the victim on some level. And he arranges their demise with great care, often leaving the remains to be found in some dramatic fashion. And he always takes out a piece that can be prepared in a meal. This is an important part of the fantasy that he fulfills with these killings. Not just eating them, but proving his superiority by dining on them like they are an entree in a five star restaurant. Dr. Chilton calls him a pure sociopath, but technically Hannibal only meets two of the requirements for this. No sense of right and wrong, and being habitually deceitful or devious. Hannibal himself admits only to being evil, and the books suggest several times there is no name for Hannibal's mental condition. What is known is that Hannibal's insanity goes back to his childhood during World War II when his sister was eaten by a band of bandits and deserters. He saw these men as bestial, barely human. And every time Hannibal rids the world of a rude or annoying person and eats a part of them, he's symbolically striking back against these fiends from his past. Campaign Use: The most classic use of Hannibal is as a resource. Locked away in his asylum, consulting on criminal cases, with there always being a price for his piercing insight. This has the advantage of being able to keep him as a continuing character, with the threat he might someday escape. But is obviously going to be very RP intensive and works best with players who really get into their character's psyches. As a serial killer to be investigate, Hannibal would be a great challenge. He’d probably be under an alias like Sterling Calcara (anagram of Clarice Starling) or something similar. Outwardly he’s hardly the picture of a serial killer and could be someone they get to know socially before the murders start, then they start figuring out who it has to be. In this case the best time period to place him in is after his escape in Silence of the Lambs and before he appears again in Hannibal. In particularly dark campaigns Hannibal can be a sort of Anti-Hero, preying on the corrupt and venal in dramatic fashion, with it left to the PC's if they really wish to stop him or not. Optional powers: In Dark Champions and higher powered normal games with telepaths and psychics, Lecter should have some measure of Mental Defense. His mind is often described as impenetrable. Some form of super stealth would also be appropriate, Hannibal sneaks in and out of places with great ease and seems able to simply appear behind people at times. And 12d6 Luck for escaping is not a bad idea either. Hannibal is not likely to survive a battle with most PC’s without a little luck. Or at least carefully planned escape routes. As a full powers Champions character I suspect he’d be a mentalist of the worst sort. It would give a whole to meaning to “You don’t want Hannibal Lecter inside your head.” Think Menton with the intellectual insanity of Hannibal Lecter. All of those are things you can do with skills if you're willing to use the optional rules that allow it. Hannibal: (after being asked to fill out a psych survey as a way of showing what happened to him): Nothing happened to me, Officer Starling I happened. You can’t reduce me to a set of influences. You’ve given up good and evil for behaviorism, Officer Starling, nothing is ever anyone’s fault. Look at me, Officer Starling. Can you stand to say I’m evil? The Two Hannibals: Two distinct versions of Hannibal Lecter show up in the books. In ‘Silence of the Lambs’ and ‘Red Dragon’ he’s an intellectual monster, a serial killer who fits no profile, an insane killer who fits no known psychological condition and a genius whose intelligence is not measurable by any means known to man. This Hannibal kills without mercy to gratify his own insane urges. Raspail was a poor flutist. The census taker dared try to classify him as one of the masses. He’s evil incarnate, charming, compelling and murderous. The Hannibal of ‘Hannibal’ and ‘Hannibal Rising’ is a standard serial killer. An unspeakably savage childhood trauma scars him and turns him into a monster. Even then he’s almost sympathetic because he’s only killing people who are also evil or corrupt, or are annoying and unlikable. This Hannibal is also charming and brilliant but in a more mundane way. He is quantifiable as the sum of his experiences and influences. The first Hannibal is an excellent villain. The second could be more of a anti-hero in a dark game. I personally much prefer the first but which version is best depends on the type of game being run.
  20. Re: Richest Man in the World Disease For a human level game, I can see limits on wealth. The ability to say "Why should we go down after the cultists? With my contacts and wealth I can hire people to do it. And who needs to investigate, that's what PI's are for. I can afford the best." is very powerful on a human level. For a superhuman level wealth makes much less of a difference. I see much more competition on stats then wealth.
  21. Re: Dark Champions the Anime Series Re: Balalaika. I think she can be sadistic. With Hansel (er..well..Gretal I suppose) she made a point of letting him die slowly and watching. Now, the twins had attacked Hotel Moscow. but if it was a matter of efficiency, one shot would have done it. I think she's very comfortable using violence. I'm not sure how much of an emotional thrill she gets from it as much as she enjoys the challenge. she does seem terribly pleased Rock goes over to the darkside when it comes to destroying the Washime group, though. I was going to comment her shooting skills were incomplete, but looking at the post a second time that's covered. She's a good shooter, or was at least. I doubt she's a match for Revy in that area now. She mostly lets other people do the shooting now it seems. Based on the adventure in Japan, she seems to be an important part of Hotel Moscow but not the leader. If I recall right, she mentions Moscow sending someone else to take over once she leaves.
  22. Re: Dark Champions the Anime Series I'd call both Gin and Revy flawed human beings, but that made it more interesting. Gin ultimately failed as a samurai because he could not let go of his life and be willing to die in order to win. Revy fought like someone already dead. According to the Hagakure, that makes all the difference. Gin let her be drawn into the Yakuza world because of his feelings for the girl and his desires to protect her. He was more of a sympathetic figure, he seemed to want to get out of that world but it would not let him and his sense of obligation would not let him. Aside from her background there is little sympathetic about Revy. I think that's part of the fun of the character.
  23. Re: Dark Champions the Anime Series Just finished 23 and 24 finally. Wow. The final battle really had me on the edge of my seat, and did have me second guessing who I thought would win. Gin and Revy are both badass. And we finally get to see Rock not wearing a tie. Nice to see Eda sneaking in a fast appearance as well at the end. Can't wait to see the write ups.
