  1. Re: Monster Island That's a lot of content in 133 pages but $30 is kinda steep for that page count...is it full-color? Destroyer is also 30 but has 214 pages...
  2. Re: Monster Island I saw the cover for this and it looks interesting... 1) How many characters/monsters are statted up? 2) What is the page count?
  3. Hey all, DC:TAS looks very interesting to me but I don't have DC...based on the reviews I've read I'm thinking I could swing TAS without DC. Is DC necessary to use it? Thanks all.....
  4. Re: PS238 Roleplaying Game I got this and yesterday and it is just simply a great book...one of the best books done during 5th edition. I'd never read anything PS238 prior to the book but I plan on getting everything I can on it now. A few things: - If Sidekick is HERO system-lite then the version in PS238 is Champions-lite. In fact, reading it brought me back to when I bought Champions 3rd edition in terms of ease of play and no optional mishmash. The rules here are just note-perfect. I would say that Steve even took some ideas from across the Champions line, condensed them, and created the rules set for the book. Great job.... - The sourcebook portion is very complete...I didn't feel like I was missing anything and it really got the "feel" of ps238 across. - A question about Revenant: there was a character named in Champions 3 (the rules supplement) Revenant that kind of has the same appearance...is that the same character? I HIGHLY recommend this book and hope to do a full review of it for other sites shortly...
  5. OK- so I've been compiling my list of books that I need and what I don't as well as replacing my damaged books. Here's my list: Champions, CU, CU:NOTW, CKC, VV&V, Viper, Demon, Until, Evil Unleashed My thoughts: I have no problem building with the hero system so I don't need any of the powers or gear books I don't think. I really only want the broad spectrum setting stuff so I don't think I need the city books either. Here is what I'm looking at: Stronghold- looks interesting, are there a lot of bad guys in it? Champs Worldwide- again, it fits my broad stroke ideal... Can anyone recommend anything else? I am a big picture type GM...what about Villainy Amok? Thanks all!!!!
  6. Hey all- Well, it's been a long road for me but I am finally getting back in to Champions on the 5th edition side...kind of a long story. I have been a Champs fan in all its modes since about 1985 when I bought a 3rd edition box set from a comic shop. I fell in love with the game and have played it through all of its versions, basically the same campaign. I had some shifts in my life personally and ended up not playing for a while. I got back to playing my venerable 3rd edition books because I liked the feel over 5th. My 5th books were nice resources but I was firmly in 3rd's mindset. That was good for a while. I started to look over my 5th books again that I had and really liked what it could do. I felt like starting 5th up again might be cool... A flood in my new apartment took care of that...my closet which stores my books was near my bathroom which had a pipe burst in the wall. All my 5th ed books were ruined beyond all recognition (my copy of 5th stood up OK but was pretty unreadable). My 3rd edition HERO collection stayed intact because it was by my nightstand. A year later and I am back in, I have 5th and Chamoions on its way to me. I reviewed several books up through DEMON so I know what to look for there. What else does everyone recommend? It'll be a slow rebuild (I have a 5 month old little boy now) but hopefully 1 book at a time I can replace what I lost and build up new books. Great to be back!!!!
  7. Re: Which books do I need? Erekose- To answer your core question, there are certainly concessions that have been made in terms of "feel" between 1st-3rd and later editions. Champions was last an actual game in 3rd edition...it has morphed/evolved into a genre book as HERO has evolved from multiple games with tweaked rules into one system with genre books. I have a good set of 3rd edition books and prefer to play Champions that way because I like the flavor and concessions that make 3rd a great 4-color supers game, holes and all. That doesn't invalidate 5th at all, however...it is a great system and does a lot that I like. Dark Champions in particular does more for 5th than just about any book in the line IMHO. It all depends on feel and what you enjoy...
  8. Re: adventurer's club 3rd to 4th edition? Thanks, your Lordship I've been cleaning out storage lately and have been rediscovering HERO. I have a couple of short boxes of hero books of all types and am looking to get back in a bit. 3rd edition has really sparked the re-interest in fact.
  9. Hey all- this is kind of an old school question but does anyone out there know which issue of AC started covering 4th edition fully? I'm trying to fill out my library of 3rd and can't find the info anywhere. Thanks all!!!
  10. Re: Hero Needs Reviewers!! Hey, all- I'm new to the board but been a fan for a while. I've recently started writing reviews for HERO. I've written reviews for: Sidekick Galactic Champions The Mystic World Links for these can be found on the products page (thanks, Ben). I'm working on a review for VIPER and will post it to RPGnet which means it will likely see print next year After that, I will probably wait for Dark Champions and Arcane Adversaries to come in for review. I look forward to sharing and exchanging ideas with you all.
