  1. You shut the gates at sunset After that you can't get out You can see the bigger picture Find out what it's all about You're open to the skyline You won't wanna go back home In a garden full of angels You will never be alone But oh, the road is long The stones that you are walking on Have gone With the moonlight to guide you Feel the joy of being alive The day that you stop running Is the day that you arrive And the night that you got locked in Was the time to decide Stop chasing shadows, just enjoy the ride If you close the door to your house Don't let anybody in It's a room that's full of nothing All that underneath your skin Face against the window You can't watch it fade to gray And you'll never catch the fickle wind If you choose to stay But oh, the road is long The stones that you are walking on Have gone With the moonlight to guide you Feel the joy of being alive The day that you stop running Is the day that you arrive And the night that you got locked in Was the time to decide Stop chasing shadows, just enjoy the ride
  2. It's quotes at the top of the trope page, and it's also the very first example in the Live Action TV folder. Don't let this happen to your Captain!
  3. Advantage #3: They're more fun at parties. Because when someone loses at "spin the blaster" you can't invite them back next time. With "spin the stunner" there's always a rematch.
  4. No problem at all. Cross-post it to where? Oh, the haiku thread. Derp.
  5. In Stephen Baxter's Xeelee Sequence stories, humanity is conquered not once, but twice, (by the Squeem and then the Qax). Then they meet their match a third time when they encounter the Xeelee, who actually don't care about fighting humans because they've got bigger fish to fry.
  6. From the long-defunct Vendetta Rhapsody campaign: a haiku.... The only thing worse Than fighting for the wrong side Is not choosing one
  7. About ten years ago I had to move suddenly, and a good friend adopted my cat, Tyler. He messaged me a couple of days ago to inform me Tyler had passed on. Inoperable cancer. He was about 12 years old. Best cat ever. Friendly, smart, and (mostly) well-behaved. I've always missed him. RIP, old buddy.
  8. You realize this applies to both genders of humanity, right? I mean, we've figured out the sex part, but not so much the "Hey, you're intelligent, too!" part. We're still at the "Well, maybe" stage, and on a case-by-case basis at that, on both sides.
  9. Familiarize themselves with the local marriage customs BEFORE it's too late! (Hit LIKE if you get the reference.)
  10. Find out what the locals breathe, just in case it isn't nitrogen/oxygen mixed 80/20 at 15psi somewhere near room temperature. (With appropriate trace gasses.)
  11. I had the same problem when I tried to read the first book. One plot line really grabbed me, but I just couldn't get into the others. Eventually I gave up on the whole thing. I think I'm suffering from "space opera fatigue" because the same thing has happened with several other books in the last couple of years.
  12. I met Don almost 30 years ago, back when we were both in college. I had the pleasure of gaming with him (we both enjoyed Traveller) when he came over from DePauw on weekends to visit his girlfriend (and future wife), Susan. We all enjoyed spending time with him, and on one occasion I volunteered to drive to Greencastle to pick him up when he didn't have a ride so he wouldn't miss out on his weekend visit. Don was like that; if you knew him, you'd be glad to help him out. His contributions to the gaming community in Champaign are immeasurable -- I don't know how many years he's been in charge of the Winter War convention, but it has thrived under his stewardship, and all of its regular (and not so regular) attendees, including myself, will miss him a great deal.
  13. What are we up to, ten? I like 10. We should go for 20. 10. The Bridge (or "Command Center") with all the upper echelon officers on duty at the same time, is located on the upper deck of the ship where it's most vulnerable to getting blown to bits along with most of the ship's chain of command. Wouldn't it make more sense to put it in the middle of the hull where it's safest? This is as much a policy problem as a design flaw. The ship's CO, XO, 3rd, 4th and 5th in command should never all be on duty in the same highly vulnerable area, especially during combat. And if they weren't in the starring roles of a poorly written space opera, they wouldn't be. You just knew I'd de-lurk to poke fun at Trek, didn't you? Well, now you do!
  14. I black hole with an electrical charge would be easiest to move around.
  15. My campaign looks kinda like this: (not my artwork, but I only borrow the best stuff I can find....)
  16. Ugh! Some of these issues sound suspiciously similar to the problems my Awesome Gamer Girl keeps having with her phone! Just curious, what model is this finely crafted piece of junk?
  17. Some of the local merchants around here are complete scumbags. Seriously, genital leprosy is too good for them.
  18. Right click (on the Superhero Creator app, not the ad) and hit Play.
  19. OTOH, "Obssessed with Major Houlihan" ended up causing him all kinds of problems. He had a wife stateside, so he was committing adultery and trying to keep her from finding out. Eventually the wife heard about it, and Burns' efforts to placate her made Houlihan so angry she dumped him. He continued pursuing her, even after she started seeing someone else. This included behavior which could be considered "stalking." I'd probably rank it as a "Common/Strong" Psychological Complication.
  20. Don't forget "Obsessed with Major Houlihan"
  21. No problem. Also, I haven't forgotten you asked me to help out with the Malachi Brogan write-up.
  22. Maybe you should post the Amber Long write-up.
  23. Beyond one's sense of self, changing gender will also effect other characters' perceptions and expectations of the PC. But how much or how little depends on what kind of game you want to run.
