  1. Hello again. Still working out all the differences between the current FH and the original. No figured characteristics?? Who'd have thunk it?! Any suggestions for balancing combat? IE: if you have 3 PC's totaling 450 CP the easiest is to have 3 equally powerful adversaries. But what if they're fighting a single Big Bad? Is it still viable in the new version to ignore CP for the villain and just give him enough defense to shrug off 90% of their average damage and enough damage dealing that 15% of an average attack gets through the hero's defenses, etc..? Back in the Primordial days of HS that worked pretty well.

    Druids

True. In many books the longer a person is in animal form the more they start thinking like the animal and can actually lose themselves.

    Druids

Has anyone ever created a character that mimics the shapeshifting ability of a Druid? The Multiform power seems the most likely way to go. Hopefully won't chew up too much of the PC's character points. Anyone have ideas for a better method?
  4. Back in the Third Age of Man (late 1980's) I ran a FH campaign for a while and one of the players found a sword with multiple personality disorder. Every time he drew the sword he rolled a d6 to determine which personality was in ascendance at the time and each personality had its own bonuses. He really hated the pacifist persona.
  5. Thanks for all the input folks. I'll get the FHC for now and pick up the FH and HS6e later. My wife accuses me of being addicted to buying gaming material. But I only have two book cases full of gaming material so that can't be true.
  6. Sounds like what I need. I have 5e hardcover but I'm not sure where my 6e is an all-in-one is best. Thank you.
  7. I have a small group of players who have voiced a willingness to try it out. I played older Champions and the original Fantasy Hero back in the late 80's or early 90's, the players have never used Hero System. So which would you recommend for us? FH or FHC?
  8. In a home grown Fantasy game, we were a very unbalanced party of 5 magic users and one fighter played by my firend who was hired as my guy's bodyguard. After convincing the fighter to touch a rune covered monolith and him transforming into a caribou I fired a force spell off which broke his hip so the monk (yeah, monks were magical) could catch him. Note that the transformation ripped all his clothes off. So, after dispelling the transformation and mostly healing up his broken hip my friend says "Wait, I wake naked, surrounded by mages, and my butt hurts?" Our DM sprayed half the table with the soda he was drinking. In a DnD game our party encounters a pitch-black portal which the elf wizard wants to go through. My axe wielding monk (spent the feat) thinks this is a bad idea and convinces her to stick her staff through first. DM tells her to make a magic save which she does successfully, only losing about 90% of her HP as her staff disintegrates. Turning to the monk she asks "Other than that, what's the worst that could happen?"
  9. Re: What would your character do #74 (or so):Gift of Power? Magnon: How can I decide who would be worthy of this gift? Wolfen: Why the *BLEEP* would I put this curse on another human being? FrostFire: Cool! *put amulet in pocket* Yeah right, I wonder how much this would sell for? Brik: Uh huh, I'll ask around until I find someone who actually wants to be transferred into a block of black granite. American Soldier: Would give it to his sidekick Champ.
  10. Re: Selling people on Hero system when they're already inclined against it...? I'm a veteran Hero player from '86 myself and loved the release of 5ed. I can tell you that convincing d20'ers to play it is daunting. I play DnD 3.5 and enjoy it but will tell you that my experience is most d20'ers are too used to the simplicity of that system. As far as those who cite long combats are concerned, they're thinking of Champions which reflects the high energy, throwing tanks like confetti world of the comic book. So yeah, when you can shrug off the damage of planetfall your combats are going to take a while. But in fantasy/modern campaigns it's brutal and tends to be resolved quicker than in DnD once the players are used to using a different system. Don't promise them they'll love the system the first time they play it. Get them to give it at least 5 sessions to get used to the differences. I can almost guarantee none of them played DnD 3.x flawlessly in less time than that! I've currently got a couple from my group interested in doing a modern campaign using the Hero system and am working up the world. Super powers will be introduced later As one of 'em said when looking at the basic rules. 'Combat's bloody!' Best luck to all those wanting to get a Hero game going, myself included Oh, and it's nice to see other folks actually still love Hero!
