  1. Re: Tesunden Isles Ok, I couldn't find your server, so I started working on spell macros on my local copy of the campaign. I am concentrating on the non-damage type macros, for now. I figured I would let you tackle them unless you want me to. In the meantime, here is where I am at. I have figured out your target selection, and range logic, and your END expenditure logic. I have successfully created a Darkness to sight gourp macro. It asks for variables, has you select the target, rolls the RSR, rolls the hit roll taking range penalties into consideration, checks for success or failure, outputs the effect if there is success, and then automatically expends the END for the spell. I am basically trying to follow your formula listed in paragraph 3 fo your last post. I figured that on some spells, like Darkness there might be a need to expend END on subsequent phases to maintain an effect (this could also apply to my Asherons Wall (Barrier) spell). So I created an Expend END macro that asks for END input and expends it (updates currentEND). While working on Asheron's Wall (Barrier) I got to thinking about defenses. Should I have the macro set the current defense properties, and then maybe create a second macro to "recover" or basically deactivate the defenses set? Another question for this "power", the reason I bought barrier instead of trying to create a force field type of thing, is so that as I ivest XP into it, it can represnt a larger "force wall" which brings into question area effect defenses... I suppose for now we can just use the characteristic input macro for each token protected to modify thier defenses. Let me know your thoughts.
  2. Re: Tesunden Isles K... i need help/advice. I tried loading/running your Heal Spell macro, and your init macro in the posted campaign file and I keep getting an error saying I don't have enough permissions to run the macro. I am running as GM while I try to do this coding, so i am not sure what I am doing wrong or what I need to change so that I can run them. My initial thought was to use that macro as a base a modify it for other spells. Having said that, I have a much more simplistic power/spell macro working, but it doesn't do a lot of the automated things our current attack macro does so it wold require more manual damage calculations, and book keeping, as it just shows the total damage/effect rolled and doesn't consider target defenses. Also I don;t have them setup for a list as that would require some sort of token property modification... and I don;t want to muck about with your token properties without your permission. SO... shoud I create a single macro for each spell (I know it's my lokout to track them)? Or should I wait for you to create the spell stuff? Or can I create a spell property string similar to what we have for weapons, and store them in a token property (for this I would need to either work on your server in GM mode or we would need to collaborate on the properties needed so that I can add them locally. Let me know how you want me to proceed. Thanks oh mighty one
  3. Re: Tesunden Isles Thanks. The campaign seems to be developing into a sort of mix between Norse and Northern European style backdrop. So, I did some research on Norse magic (turns out most Norse dieties had some control over the magic realm. I could not locate an actual historical reference to a Norse God/Goddess of magic, but Odin was reputed to be the most called upon by any of the Norsemen that needed magical aid or power). I also did some research on Corvids (Ravens and Crows), they are omnivores, and will eat small nuts, berries, and seed, however, they also eat meat. Usually carrion but sometimes small animals (field mice type) and insects. They were believed by peoples on both sides of the atlantic to have been either avatars of the gods, or messengers/servants of the gods. Some Norsemen believed that while the Valkyrie collected the souls of those that died in battle and were deserving to enter Valhalla, ravens collected the rest and ushered them to Hel. Odin also had two Ravens Huginn and Muninn (thought and memory). I am working up some basic spell macros, but I will do away with them as you replace them with "official" ones. I am looking forward to Thursday with some anticipation. I am curious to see if our late night guest turns out to be friend or foe
  4. Re: Tesunden Isles Always precocious, and lacking in the strength and mindset to follow the warrior dreams of so many young men, Arial seemed destined for more cerebrial paths. As a young man Arial pre-occupied himself with books, and learning, marveling at the legends of mighty wizards, and arcane mysteries. When young Arial was but 12 years old, his town was visited by a mage named Baradoc. Baradoc's air of mystery enchanted the boy, and when Baradoc moved on , he was suprised to find that young Arial had stowed away in his travelling cart. Afraid to leave the young delinquent to his own fate, but anxious to reach his next destination, the mage agreed to watch after the boy until more suitable arrangements could be made. Baradoc was suprised by the boys quick wit and intelligence, and quickly grew fond of Arial. By the time they reached the next village, Baradoc had agreed to teach the boy instead of leaving him at the nearest convenient safe place. Studying hard and learning quickly Arial soon grew into a respectable mage in his own right. Arial has long since gone his own way in the world, but the wanderlust and searching for ever new arcane knowledge have grown to almost an obsession. Recently on a visit to the North Lands, Arial happened upon a village being plagued by Troll attacks. After one such attack while helping to try and recover the bodies, Arial happened upon a large black Raven. This particular corvid was acting very peculiar. While the other birds were not shy about trying to sample the carrion, this particular bird seemed content to watch, almost as if waiting for something to happen. While watching the strange bird, Arial failed to notice a lone troll approaching from a nearby stand of boulders where it had been hiding awaiting more human prey. When the troll roared and attacked, Arial was hard pressed to defend himself. He threw bolt after bolt of arcane lightning, but to little effect. Suddenly the strange Raven took flight and circling Arial in his battle, a bird like voice entered Arials mind pronouncing a single word. Startled and in mid-spell Arial uttered the new word instead of the trigger incantaion for his lightning bolt, and a surge of power he had never felt before course through his spell. A strange bolt of blue flame burst from his spell staff, and actually injured the menacing troll. Emboldened Arial pressed the new attack and finally defeated the troll. And so began the relationship between the raven Arial named Rook, and the mage. Arial soon was overcome with a desire to persue new horizons and find new knowledge. Leaving the village he journeyed to the coast and took passage on ship to the next town down the coast. The Albatross was a troubled ship, and was soon swallowed by a dense fog and beclamed, with no visual refence for navigation the ship was lost, and drifted for days. After almost a week, with water and food running low, and crew morale gone, things grew even worse. During the night the ship was attacked by an enormous sea serpent. During the battle a fellow passenger turned out to be an Elven Archer of amazing ability. She defeated the serpent and saved the ship. Still adrift in the fog, Arial was once again amazed by the raven. Rook took to wing and flying above the fog spotted the far coastline. Arial was startled to discover that by contcentraing he could actually see through Rook's eye and hear what he heard. Arial pointed the way to land that Rook had discovered, but the skipper of the Albatross pointed out that with no wind, knowing the way did little to help. Arial, called upon his spells once again and stirred the air to a stiff breeze. For several hours he kept up the arcane winds. Until the ship finally cleared the fog and took her own wind. The exhausted mage slumped and slept the rest of the journey. The Albatross cleared the strange fog bank near the booming city of New Haven, where she put in for re-supply. It is here that the mage debarked the ship, having had enough of sailing for a while. Little did he know that perhaps his destiny awaited in this new place.
  5. Re: Companions of an Uncertain Fate SO are we on for tonight... if even to just work on characters
  6. Re: Achilles and Ulysses An interesting match would be between Achilles and Lancelot, if they in fact existed. Two warriors trained in sword play that were never defeated in single HTH combat. Both were believed to have had some measure of divine protection from harm...
  7. Re: Companions of an Uncertain Fate Dang Dalt! One the one hand that sucks from a gaming perspective, but from a work perspective that could be a good thing... job security and all that, with the current economy. If we do roll into a new campaign, by the time we get new characters created and submitted, and what not, perhaps your work will settle down to a low roar and you can jump back in with little time lost. If we re-visit GA, Terrie would like to join in. I explained that Doc is long dead, and she would need to create a new character. I also warned her that the roster might already be full, and she is ok if it is, but she is interetsted. I will take a look at the blog. If you are feeling fantasy-ish Nol, I am good with it. I just need to give some thought to a character type.
  8. Re: Companions of an Uncertain Fate Guys I have to apologize for the no show tonight. As some of you may know I work for the US Air Force, and we had an incident at work and were on base lockdown. I just got home. Man 17 hours makes for a very long day. Barring another idiot claiming threats against the base I will be there next week.
  9. Re: Companions of an Uncertain Fate Well I for one don't mind if you wait til Starwolf returns Especially as I am pretty sure Hardesty is allergic to being eaten by Thresher Maws (what ever they are ) Seriously though, If you do decide to run, you can use Hardesty in any way you desire (be gentle), or have him sit it out as the story dictates. I'll see you guys on the 22nd.
  10. Re: Companions of an Uncertain Fate Sorry about that, I took the server back down so that I could log in to Nol's server, but found the room empty. I figured that everyone had moved on for the night so I gave up and watched America the Story of US. But I got the character lists for Sav and Rag, and I now know what happened to my port forwarding so now I can correct on the fly if it comes up in the future (my internal IP changed so I needed to add the new IP and delete the old one from the router table). In a couple of days we are off to Pine Lake where we own 10 acres and have setup a private camping area. It is on the north west rim of Bryce Canyon in Utah's red rock country. We are going there this year for a family reunion, and expect about 30 people from around the country. I will be home on Wed 21 July and ready to game again on the 22nd. I would try and make next weeks session, except there are no current bushes around to plug in my laptop, and I am pretty sure the only hotspot will be the coals in my campfire. I'll see you guys in two weeks... don't die while I am gone
  11. Re: Companions of an Uncertain Fate Well I didn't give up. I think I got my server up if anyone wants to give it a whirl. I probably won't run a scenario but we can test my settings. And I learned a bit about my router and firewalls. If not I'll see you all in two weeks.
  12. Re: Companions of an Uncertain Fate Well I can't seem to get the dang router to set UPnP or port forwarding. I will get it resolved (probably have to call Qwest tech support), but I don't think I am going to get this going tonight. I will keep at it, and next time we need a one off I will be ready. One other note. I will not be here next week. We are going out of town to a family reunion and I will be camping out in the middle of nowhere Utah. The nearest town is 50 miles away and no hot spots for net connection. Sorry for the tech problems.
  13. Re: Companions of an Uncertain Fate Ack!!! I am having a port forwarding issue... working on it
  14. Re: Companions of an Uncertain Fate Ok, I have launched a server called Wolveslair. Usual passwords.

  18. Re: Companions of an Uncertain Fate Crap and me with UNLUCK... I guess the group is doomed ((Last time I shot Elvis he just looked at me like... "Is that all you got?", I feel trepidation ))
  19. Re: Companions of an Uncertain Fate Not advocating a Maptool upgrade, BUT, just FYI... Maptools 1.3b70 is out and whatever bug was bugging us when you tested with 1.3b68 has been fixed. I loaded 1.3b70, then I loaded my copy of your campaign file, and I was able to change maps, move tokens, and fire all of Hardesty's macros. And who you callin a meat bag, you duracell dandy... ((makes note to self: don;t poke the sleeping GM with sharp sticks before game time ))
  20. Re: Companions of an Uncertain Fate I am glad you had a good time, the redwoods are indeed invigorating. Of course with your batteries recharged... oh wait you have batteries? Holy crap!!! Our GM is a cyborg
  21. Re: Companions of an Uncertain Fate Wow this thread is filling fast. I just found it and it's already on page two... Ok my catchup post ;D On skill rolls, I like it the way it is with the suggestion for liberal use of GM mods. Maybe in the spirit of making each character "shine", the GM could on occasion allow a player to buy a single skill above the cap if it fits with the story, the character concept, and did I mention the story? On the hiding of NPC stats... I am of no real opinion. I don't look at the NPC stats, as 99.999% of the time I have my own token selected to keep my macros handy. I know I could get a quick glimpse by hovering over the token, but I am usually too busy just trying to follow the chat, and manage my own character. On the game this week. A break is ok. I can use the time to prep some camping gear. I am going to miss the nigt of July 15th as Terrie and I are heading off to a family reunion. I will be back for the game on the 22nd of July.
  22. Re: Anyone running any online games? So the Barrel fouling thing is cool... is it a variation of the burn out power limitation?
  23. Re: Anyone running any online games? Speaking of strange events...
