  1. Re: A question to the physics-minded... Aww shucks
  2. Re: A question to the physics-minded... Thanks very much for the high praise. I wonder anew each session if the world will tear itself apart There are a few, but they are isolated and under extreme scrutiny. For a while there was an "underground railroad" of sorts, but the destination got bombed out of existence. Right now there is new enclave slowly solidifying on the moon, but getting there is tricky for most. To be honest I pretty much expected the PC's to take a leading role in something like this, but they haven't.
  3. Re: A question to the physics-minded... I am completely in awe of the high-tech-fu demonstrated in this entire thread.
  4. Re: A question to the physics-minded... Thanks
  5. Re: A question to the physics-minded... If anyone is interested, the web site for the campaign is at http://142.165.131.108
  6. Re: A question to the physics-minded... I will actually PM you later today and give you some details.
  7. Re: A question to the physics-minded... I wound up just going with a new round for an otherwise conventional 25mm cannon. It became a 3d6 double Penetrating RKA, which was enough to annoy the PC's and maybe warn them that worse could follow if they keep pushing their luck. This way I can keep all of the more exotic ideas from this thread in reserve for escalation
  8. Re: A question to the physics-minded... This would work on some of them, but not others. It's a good idea, I just want something that each one of them can pull a second take at.
  9. Re: A question to the physics-minded... To elaborate, my PC's have been exhibiting more of a "your puny bullets cannot harm us, we are gods among insects" kind of attitude lately. I need to make sure the authorities have a way of making them rethink their dismissive attitudes.
  10. Re: A question to the physics-minded... Heh, mostly I just want to scare the living cripes out of my PCs by showing them that they aren't quite **** of the walk yet
  11. Re: A question to the physics-minded... That is truly cool
  12. Re: More example combats? Honestly the best way to go about getting the hang of it is to whip up some characters and pit them against each other. Don't worry about the more complex rules to start with, just get used to the flow and add detail as you get more comfortable.
  13. Re: What do you think... Thanks Edit: The character drawing template came from somewhere, but I don't remember where. I'm pretty sure it was someone's game site but for the life of me I can't recall. If anyone knows who I should credit for it please let me know, I've made extensive good use of it.
  14. Re: A question to the physics-minded... This is perfect, rather than use the gun on the PC's I'll give it to them to use. 20d6 of knockback later...
  15. Re: A question to the physics-minded... Hmmm. Maybe I'll stick to more conventional options. Thanks for the insight
  16. Re: What do you think... If anyone is interested I have a web site up for the campaign. It's pretty light on content at the moment, but I have the best intentions to fill it up with stuff in the future. Due to the jump forward the date in-game is November of 2010. http://142.165.131.108/
  17. Re: A question to the physics-minded... Thanks to everyone for your input so far, you've given me a lot to work with
  18. Re: A question to the physics-minded... Yeah, that's another good option. So far it seems the following all work as reasonable extrapolations of our current understanding and technology: -very high energy lasers (the classics never get old), -ultra-high speed projectiles that use a plasma tip to create a channel for themselves through the atmosphere, and -laser-ionised tunnel-guided electrical discharge projectors. I think this is the beginning of some bad times for the PC's
  19. Re: A question to the physics-minded... If it were an action movie, the only certanty would be that the target would experience an impact an order of magnitude greater than the recoil of the weapon, propelling him backwards through a plate-glass window that would (if necessary) have been transported behind him a fraction of a second earlier through quantum teleportation.
  20. Re: A question to the physics-minded... What if you were to use magnetic acceleration, rather than pressure from expanding gases? Assuming for a moment that the initial acceleration and the projectile flight path could be in vacuum, wouldn't the practical upper limit on velocity be divorced from the ability of the gun barrel material being able to withstand pressure?
