Re: Fictional cities
I've experimented with tossing down the basics for a city, and then letting the players come up with the neighborhoods their characters initially patrol as part of character creation.

Having subdued its inebriated driver, Orlando, Florida's own TraffiCat steps delicately out of the rear window
of the car it entered a few minutes earlier. While the feline wonder is rumored to be anything from a
magician's familiar to a rogue Imagineering project, the terrific tabby uses its invulnerability and spectacular
leaping abilities to stalk drunken and reckless drivers in and around The City beautiful.

Re: Superhero Images
Has it really been that long? How the time does fly. But as I said, that sort of dead linkage is to be expected. (Though it looks like a lot of the pics are still extant; the BB software has just changed the way it handles pics since then.)
That said, it looks like if we could get Oddhat started again on a similar thread, he could come up with pages of material.

Re: Superhero Images
Some time ago, there used to be thread hereabouts called "Images That Could Be a Hero" or something like that, with lots of odd and interesting photos that could be used as super background material. None of the search combos I'm using come up with anything, so I'm wondering if it was axed for some reason or another. It could be that my search-fu just isn't strong enough. Of course, after all this time, there would the normal heat death of broken links, but I would like to see what remains if anyone can remember what it was called.

From the Golden Age Comic Book Stories blog, this selection of Joseph Christian Lyendecker illos seem tailor-made for pulp portraits.

Re: Pulpy Art
Not strictly art, but this came up on my radar a few days back. TNA Wrestling's Bound For Glory PPV was in Chicago this year, so all their ads were gangster-themed, shot on the sets/attractions at Universal Orlando (an occasional employer/stomping ground of mine). TNA photog Lee South uploaded his stills to his Flickr stream, and pulp GMs may find them useful...

Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group...
I think you need to read the story about the Head of Vecna. You realize that the Head of Vecna was perpetrated by one group of PCs on another group of PCs, not by the GM, right?
Many years ago (back when we all were still playing D & D), I ran a game where I pitted two groups against each other.Several members of Group One came up with the idea of luring Group Two into a trap. You remember the Hand of Vecna and the Eye of Vecna that were artifacts in the old D&D world where if you cut off your hand (or your eye) and replaced it with the Hand of Vecna (or the Eye) you'd get new awesome powers? Well, Group One thought up The Head of Vecna.
I'm not sure that your example is proving exactly what you think it is.

Re: Need a reasonably well known charcter idea
Well, yes, I'm sure there are earlier examples...But I personally found Adric to sort of be the absolute essence of the problem.
Of course you did. Had you been a few years younger, you'd feel the same about Wesley Crusher. Older, Will Robinson. Older still, one of those annoying Timmys that some radio heroes got saddled with.
Every generation finds it necessary to reinvent the wheel. Or to despise the young supergenius who reinvents the wheel for that generation.

Re: Need a reasonably well known charcter idea
Never herd of the character before' date=' but according to Wiki, he was on the show 1980-1982. So wouldn't this be Will Robertson Syndrome? (1965-1968)[/quote']Edisonade Syndrome, circa 100 years earlier.

Re: looking for non-Causasian pulp roles
Perhaps I'm misreading what you're saying, but the Newtons first appear in The Sky Walker, first published in 1939.
