Saw this on Facebook and thought I'd pass it along. Rea Irvin, the artist behind the look of The New Yorker magazine, created his own superhero character--Superwoman This was her only appearance, as National Comics, having already trademarked the name, came down on them faster than they ever came down on anyone else. This strip was her only appearance in print. Frankly, I don't think National had to worry about the competition, given the spoof nature of the plot and the quietly bizarre figure of the little man with the top hat and book. I admit, I rather like the look of the character--she puts me very much in mind of Katherine Hepburn, assuming she could ever be persuaded to play a superheroine. Perhaps Cate Blanchette could step into the role, bringing some of her Hepburn impersonation to the part. It owuld have been interesting to see where Mr. Irvin would have gone with this.

I could see villains using another villain's plot--they might think, "This is what that other villain did wrong, but if I do it right--I WILL SUCCEED! BWA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA!!!!!"

For a beginning superhero, Spider-Man was quite capable. In Amazing Spider-Man #5 (Vol. 1) he holds his own against Doctor Doom, who first attempts to recruit him for his war with the Fantastic Four. Spidey refuses, and Doom declares him an enemy. Later, Doom mistakes Flash Thompson for Spider-Man, and Spidey has to go rescue him. There's no clear winner, but anybody that can hold their own against Doom has got some serious stuff as a superhero as far as I'm concerned.

Hottest female First Officer. I think Janeway would concur that Chakotay was thoroughly hot. (I'm secure enough in my masculinity to say that. Ladies--doesn't that turn you on?)
