Oh, I should add, we have other content updates. Prior to launching Steel Aces we just finished a series on martial arts and this Sunday we start a new series.

For now, once every 2 weeks. We have a Patreon, and when (if) we hit 100 patrons we will be increasing the number of updates for the comic.

When Kamala Harris was running, Al Things Considered interviewed her (along with a bunch of other Dem candidates), and she advanced a rather interesting argument that used infrastructure to talk about structural racism and social justice.. To wit: If roads don't get maintained properly, they are more likely to damage vehicles. For a fairly prosperous person, this is no big deal. For a poor person, it's catastrophic. It can mean choosing between paying rent or paying for car repair, or losing a job because you can't get to it for a few days. And of course, guess which groups are disproportionately poor? So, administrations that are stingy about road repair help to entrench poverty; spending money on road repair can help, well, de-entrench poverty.

It's not a heroic attitude toward social reform. "Fix the roads!" doesn't speak of villainy confronted and virtue established. But to me it suggests someone who's thinking analytically about what practical steps can be taken to relieve social ills.

As you may know, he NHL playoffs are taking place in two bubbles, in Edmonton and Toronto. Well, the Jumbotron operator in Edmonton isn't letting the lack of a crowd dampen his/her enthusiasm:

Although I am grateful we have Republican opposition to Trump on our side, I keep reminding myself that some of those Republicans would enact many of the policies that Trump is trying to push through. They would work methodically and put on a saner, more urbane face. If Donald J. Trump is the bear dead ahead, then John Q. Republican is the adder in the bush.

wcw43921 got a reaction from Michael Hopcroft in Star Trek (The Original Series): What's the Best Episode?
If there's any dramatic production that influenced Star Trek, it's Forbidden Planet.   An intrepid space captain and his equally intrepid crew journey to a planet in a faraway solar system where mystery and danger await--that's the elevator pitch for Star Trek right there.  Not to mention those episodes where Kirk and the Enterprise found the ruins of some ancient civilization with some (potentially dangerous) forgotten technology, such as--

"What Are Little Girls Made Of" (androids)
"The City On The Edge Of Forever" (time travel)
"That Which Survives" (holographic projection capable of physical contact)
    "I, Mudd" (more androids)
    "Turnabout Intruder" (mind transference)

Finally, you could have put William Shatner in the role of Commander Adams and he would have played it exactly the way Leslie Nielsen played it, righteous tirades and all.  Conversely, you could put Nielsen in the role of Kirk and he would have played it just like Shatner, again with tirades that could have been written expressly for him.

There were differences, of course.  Perhaps the biggest is that in Forbidden Planet the crew of the C-57D is thoroughly, relentlessly Caucasian-American men, whereas Star Trek became famous for its attempts at diversity--an African communications officer, a Russian naviForbidden Planet gator, an otherworldly science officer, and so on.  And they had non-Caucasians and non-males in positions of authority--Areel Shaw in the episode "Court Martial" was the prosecutor whose duty was to end Kirk's career.  And Donald Cory (played by Keye Luke) was the governor of a penal colony in the episode "Whom Gods Destroy."

While Star Trek had many other influences--I have heard it described as "Horatio Hornblower in space"--there is no doubt in my mind that Forbidden Planet was the biggest.

I prefer the Whopper to either the Big Mac or the Quarter Pounder with Cheese. I think it has a better flavor.

Having said that, you're absolutely correct about a Wendy's cheeseburger being better than either of the above. Carl's Jr./Hardees makes a pretty decent cheeseburger as well.

I've never tried any of the Impossible burgers. I took one look at the nutrition info--the sodium content, specifically--and determined that I could have maybe one in the rest of my life. Not worth it for something masquerading as meat. I'm not that desperate yet.

And I personally find In-N-Out to be profoundly meh.
