  1. Re: Two-Headed Man? Digging through my other game books, I found that GURPS has an advantage that might give some ideas. It doesn't talk about INT boosts, but if one head's knocked out the creature loses some INT, so it's about the same thing. It's in Fantasy Folk for 3rd Edition, p. 83 under 'Giants'. It doesn't do much except let the giant focus on two things at once and make him harder to knock out.
  2. Re: Your PC's might be underpowered if... ... if your GM says, "Okay, combat starts now," and you duck into the kitchen to wait it out.
  3. Re: This week on "Champions"... Saturday: 2 pm Team Nike -- This time, the corporate-sponsored superheroes finally track down the local Viper base. [PRE-EMPTED IN THIS TIME SLOT] [in it's place we bring you a re-run of this month's Movie Of The Week: Michael Moorcock's Stormbringer] edit: what actually aired was an hour of wacky hijinks with the Delivery-Boys-In-Black at Ninja Burger. These 'game du-jour' episodes are really getting me down.
  4. Re: Legal status of major supergroups Depending on how nasty you want to get -- 10 pt Perk: Department of Homeland Security "Asset" - Able to supercede any local or national law enforcement agency, able to violate any law in pursuit of "Security of the Nation", Concealed Weapons Permit, Get Out Of Jail Free card Sometimes I'm a meeeean little S.O.B.
  5. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group... Kinda reminds me of a favorite run-on quote from an old friend: "He's the guy at the place with the stuff and the things and the stuff...." (it's all in the delivery, trust me)
  6. Re: Teen Mutants Unlimited Ah, newly-emerging supers, my favorite. Just remember to have the cops shoot at them no matter how they act and have the media crawling all over them, even to the point where Campus Security's overwhelmed and pictures of the school end up on every newspaper.
  7. Re: Supe it up! Lost in Space: Apollo 18 never made it home. Instead, the three astronauts were discovered/rescued by an alien species that had made its base on the dark side of the moon. The aliens' advanced medical sciences made supermen out of the astronauts. The catch? Due to the same medicine that made them supermen, they're ultimately vulnerable to Earth's 'high' gravity.
  8. Re: post-apocalyptic genre book The more I browse this topic, the more I notice how much of a meta-genre that PA is. You can have fantasy PA (Larry Niven's "What Good Is A Glass Dagger", if memory serves), Superhero PA (several of DC's Elseworlds stories, Marvel's legendary "Days Of Future Past" storyline), historical PA (the original War of the Worlds), and so on. I'd really like to see a sourcebook on this.
  9. Re: Ethics for mentalists Just my $0.02, but I really don't think there's any "ethical" rationale that can be applied to mental powers. Once you go violating someone's privacy or overriding their self control, ethics go straight into the circular file. Morals, however, are still firmly in play. Perhaps even moreso.
  10. Re: Protoge Please Interesting question. Arac-4105 would most likely take the kid in and train him/her in defensive tactics until it was second nature. No missions for awhile, but plenty of aid and rescue work if the kid wants to participate. Mythic is pretty much a kid himself, so he'd welcome somebody else his age.

    Worst Fear!

Re: Worst Fear! What would be my characters' greatest fears... Arac-4105's would be to find himself chained and collared, led around like an animal on a leash and turned into a blindly-obedient living weapon. Mythic's would be to find his new abilities taken from him and stuck back in his wheelchair, totally ignored by family, friends, and society in general.
  12. Re: I could watch him get slapped around all day I have never taken an instant dislike to a comic book character, except in one case. DC's current Manhunter, Kate Spencer. I'd like to see her get pwned by just about anyone. Superman, who'd lecture her on responsibility and heroic ideals. Batman, who'd lecture her about thinking before acting and about not killing. Any previous Manhunter (even the crappy Zero Hour one) for making the name look bad. I don't know what it is about this character that rubs me the wrong way, but it does. I apologize if my opinion upsets any fans.
  13. Re: Love Child of the Marvel Universe If I know Marvel, we'll have a forgotten supblot.
  14. Re: DC Suckverse? I don't know about anyone else, but I'm not really afraid of the whole "reboot" thing. I'm afraid of DC doing it badly. It's one thing to have some or all of your favorite character's backstory invalidated or removed, it's something totally different to have it changed into 'just a dream' and have that character's personality skew 180 degrees.
  15. Re: Did anyone ever write-up the DC Impact comic characters? Good enough. This will help in setting up her defenses. Thanks, Marketeer!
  16. Re: Superheroes: The Five Essentials the first Superman movie (for general inspiration) the first Nightwing graphic novel (for character focus) The Dark Phoenix Saga in X-men (it shows how _people_ matter in a cosmic-powers storyline) Watchmen (shows how good/bad can be a matter of perspective) Any Spiderman graphic novel (to show how screwed up a superhero's life can be)
  17. Re: Best SuperHero Fights ever The fight between Wally West and Professor Zoom at the end of the "Return of Barry Allen" storyline. Prof Zoom masquerades as Barry due to a bit of psychosis, then ultimately reveals himself after a serious blow to Wally's ego. Near the end, Prof Zoom threatens Wally's wife-to-be, Wally comes to the rescue, and Zoom cleans his clock. Then he says something stupid. "I'll make sure people forget Barry Allen...." Wally then gets his act together, ignores the bruises, and goes after Zoom with a vengeance. To me, it's a classic.
  18. Re: Who would you recreate? Possible villain group / deus ex machina: The Web - small group of extra-terrestrials crashed on Earth a few decades ago. All have incredible mental powers and can act in a gestalt to boost their power and range. A part of their 'group' is their human agent, a young telepath whom they're training in exchange for his/her help in securing things to repair their ship. Acting together, they have incredible mental attacks and TK.
  19. Re: Captain Atom? Just to add to the confusion, In the comic, he encounters a sword specially modified to cut through anything. This sliced into his armored shell and the explosion was roughly equivalent (according to the comic) to a hand-grenade or land mine. Since this was in issues 7 & 8, I can only assume he's grown more powerful over time. The reason I bring this up is that to 'heal' this injury, he transformed into his 'secret ID'. He's apparently able to switch in and out of the Captain Atom powers.
  20. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group... A few gems from a friend's game last night: - I'm not afraid of your librarian bullets. - You'll have to learn to curse with a Mexican Chiropractor-ish accent. - "Do you think the gods will be pleased (with the blood on their altar)?" "Of course. It's French." Don't ask me to explain. Suffice it to say it's an alternate-history, pulp miniatures campaign and leave it at that.
  21. Re: Did anyone ever write-up the DC Impact comic characters?
  22. Re: Most Embarassing Champions Moment An embarassment two-fer for everyone: First is my fave Champs character, a Spidey clone (not literally). I took to calling it "the one-hit wonder" for all the times I'd gotten into combat and been plastered into GM's Option in the opening round. Second involves this character and some friends exploring a Viper base. When confronted with a large, garage-style door, my character started lifting it. It barely budged, so the team brick and my character team-lifted the thing. Only when we got it totally open did the GM let us know that it was supposed to roll to the side...

  24. Re: Did anyone ever write-up the DC Impact comic characters? Thanks to everyone that's replied on my designs. I can say only three things in my defense: A) my designs always suck, I didn't have enough source material (especially on the Jaguar), and C) I was trying to design these as low-point value, low-power supers. Personally, I'm kinda tired of having 10-dice attack powers just bounce off the heroes. I'll definitely be refining and updating these characters when I can get some better source material. (BTW: big thanks to Superskrull for the info on the Jaguar)
