    BACKGROUND

Gargamel the sorceror is the sworn enemy of The Smurfs. He is an evil wizard and alchemist, whose main goal in life is to destroy The Smurfs. He lives in a run down castle/hovel with this familiar Azrael, and from time to time, his apprentice Scruple.

    PERSONALITY

Gargamel seems to have a personal vengeance against the Smurfs, and is constantly planning their demise, capture, and uses in potions and rituals. From time to time, Gargamel has a notion to eat them. Most notably however, he hopes to find the location of the Smurf village, and to use the Smurfs as an ingredient to make gold. Despite his hatred for Papa Smurf, he has had to work with him on occasion to battle a common evil, but after this compromise passes, he returns to his evil tricky ol' self. Gargamel created Sassette with magic, and sees her as her daughter, though she lives and plays with the smurfs.

    QUOTE

    "I hate those Smurfs!"

    POWERS/TACTICS

Gargamel's powers center around his magical spells and potions, which always seem to be complex requiring many different foci. His pet Azrael follows most of his commands. More often than not, his plans are foiled by the Smurfs, his mischevious familiar, or his own bumbling bad luck.

    CAMPAIGN_USE

In an less than serious game where the Smurfs or other fey appear, Gargamel would make a fun and bumbling antagonist.

  2. Re: Horror Hero Without the Supernatural

Yup. I ran a crime adventure once that was almost like a modern day Jack the Ripper. Creepy stuff :)

I had the joy of playing in this game. IIR, it was during late October a few years ago. It was truly scary. Speaking for myself, I remember trying desperately to find or add the "supernatural" angle to the story.

Alas, it wasn't there. There was no way for us to use the "of course this could never really happen" defense. The "naturalistic horror" was... naturally horrifying.

And of course, Sketchpad hadda set the story in our hometown. Nice touch, till your evening commute moves you through some key locations in the story. I went home that game night with the jitters. This town has not been the same for me since. Thanks for that, Sketchpad. ;)

There is definately something to be said for playing in a "naturalist horror" game. If you bring in all the realism... it'll leave a mark.

    BACKGROUND

Bela maintains an apartment in Queens, New York. Bela Talbot makes a career out of scamming, trading, buying, selling, and thieving supernatural objects. She has crossed paths with the Winchester boys several times, and has managed to become both a help and a hinderance to them, and always in such a way that it suits her needs. There seems to be some attraction between Bela and Dean, though it hasn't yet been called that. It has been implicated that Bela is responsible for the death of a close relative.

    PERSONALITY

Bela seems to be a consumate professional at what she does. She will lie, cheat, steal, manipulate, and severely hurt others to obtain her object of desire. She seems to have little desire to KILL anyone, but certainly does not go out of her way to save others.

    QUOTE

"Maybe next time I'll hang YOU out to dry." Bad Day at Black Rock

"Let me tell you a little something about me. I don't respond well to threats. But you make me an offer, and I think you'll find me highly cooperative." Fresh Blood

    POWERS/TACTICS

Bela has some skill in the occult, most notably being able to use a Ouija board to divine information on the whereabouts of persons and objects she is interested in. Bela has great skill in bargaining with and manipulating others to achieve her goals. She is a fairly good shot with a pistol. Whenever possible and practicle, Bela will hire others to do her dirty work.

    CAMPAIGN USE

Bela is a thief and con artist. She will appear wherever the item of her desire is located, and will make her best attempts to get her hands on it before anyone else. This has lead to plenty of backstabbing, manipulating, and other trickery to achieve her goals.

  4. Re: City of Heroes Power Builds

    Hey Gang!

Thank you so much for the ideas and discussion! Using some of the ideas here, this is what I've decided to do. The character in COH was a Tech Defender, thus the OIF's.

Recovery Aura: Aid END 1d6, Uncontrolled (+1/2), Continuous (+1), Usable Simultaneously (up to 8 people at once; +1), Area Of Effect (4" Radius; +1), Selective (+1/4) (47 Active Points); OIF Durable Expendable (Difficult to obtain new Focus; -3/4), Only Restores to Starting Values (-1/2), Costs Endurance (Only Costs END to Activate; -1/4)

Regeneration Aura: Simplified Healing 1d6, Uncontrolled (+1/2), Usable Simultaneously (up to 2 people at once; +1/2), Continuous (+1), Area Of Effect (5" Radius; +1), Selective (+1/4), Decreased Re-use Duration (1 Turn; +1 1/2) (57 Active Points); OIF Durable Expendable (Difficult to obtain new Focus; -3/4)

Calm Mind: (Total: 60 Active Cost, 26 Real Cost) Dispel Mental Powers 10d6 (30 Active Points); OIF Durable Expendable (Difficult to obtain new Focus; -3/4), Limited Power (Others Only; -1/2) (Real Cost: 13) plus Dispel Entangle 10d6 (30 Active Points); OIF Durable Expendable (Difficult to obtain new Focus; -3/4), Limited Power (Others Only; -1/2) (Real Cost: 13)

Team Link: Mind Link , Specific Group of Minds: Super Group, Any distance, No LOS Needed (25 Active Points); Limited Power (Only Usable as Recall Targeting Sense; -2), Requires A Skill Roll: Healing Matrix (-1/2), IIF Fragile Expendable (Easy to obtain new Focus; Surgically Implanted Microchip; -1/2), Concentration (1/2 DCV; -1/4), Does Not Provide Mental Awareness (-1/4)

Recall: Teleportation 1", No Relative Velocity, Increased Maximum Range (150"; +0), Ranged (+1/2), Usable As Attack (+1) (30 Active Points); Target Only (Does Not Allow User Teleportation; -1 1/2), OIF Durable Expendable (Focus: Forearm TP Device; Difficult to obtain new Focus; -3/4), Can Only Teleport To Red Zone's Side Floating Fixed Locations (-1/2), Requires A Skil Roll: Healing Matrix (-1/2)

Please let me know what you think. Did I leave anything out? Thanks again!

  5. Re: What Would Your Character's City Be Like?

Psicho: Techno Gothic... very strong traditional gothic themes where the technology is hidden and in-obvious. Fairly gritty, a place where the heroes and vigilantes are the only upholders of justice, because your average Police Officer is afraid of the place. Industrial music is the popular music of the city, and you can find a rave any night of the week.

  6. Hey Gang!

Sketchpad has allowed me to bring a CoH character into our Champions game, so I have been working on a few power builds from City of Heroes. I'm fairly new to Hero, and decided to bring the topic up for discussion... and hopefully for a little (all right, alot) of help. For most powers in CoH, the builds are fairly simple, but there are SOME that are turning out to be a little... wonky.

Red Zone is a 32nd level Emp/Rad Defender (Pinnacle Server), with the Teleportation Power Pool. Some abilities that I am having trouble with are Recall Friend/Foe, and Clear Mind, Regeneration Aura, and Recovery Aura.

I'm trying to stay as close to CoH builds as I can and maintain the power concepts of my character. Any ideas on the above powers, or any other powers from CoH? Any comments would be SO appreciated...

  8. Re: Feedback wanted on this background idea

I'm with RDU on this. Invariably, in such a scenario, the US would sell out to another country in order to keep what little it has going. It would probably be a good idea to decide which nation comes to the fore, and like RDU said, China is a good place to start. The Chinese influence would quickly be felt in the former United States... now the... the United States of China?

Morality will fly out the window as people try to survive, the word "crime" will be totally 100% subjective. The players are gonna have their hands full. What is the state of the United States Military in this? Is there Civil War as one area has more resources then many others? National Lockdown? Knowing our past history, the US is very likely to divert a majority of whatever resources it has to the Military, just to maintain order while it digs out of this economic hole. What does this mean for the hero's? Are the hero's going to be seen as hero's, or just another group of supers looking to survive on what's left.

This scenarion scares me... gotta think happy thoughts, happy thoughts, happy thoughts...

    JT
