  1. Re: The Death of Knowledge Skills: Google helps a LOT, but there's also a lot of arcana in specialized areas that you still have to dig through dank, dusty archives for, and some things that are still only handed down orally or on paper (for example, we couldn't build the USS Missouri today even if we HAD to because nobody knows how to make the Special Treatment Steel her hull plates are made of anymore). One of the things I wish I could afford to do is fully digitize and upload the entire unclassified/declassified holdings of the US National Archives, with an endowment set up to fund the same as new material is declassified in perpetuity...
  2. Re: Wish List: Other Licensed Content Based on a comment on another thread, JAG/NCIS/NCIS-LA could be fun too... maybe Criminal Minds or the Law & Order family too, if you like realistic-contemporary.
  3. Re: What Have You Watched Recently? NCIS Marathon on USA. Makes me, NOT a true RPGer, wanna give it a whirl as Gibbs... what kind of game effects would a Gibbs-slap from the master himself have?
  4. Re: Costumes Sorry, my vote goes to the Punisher and the Shadow for practicality. Eye-candy, I'll give it to whoever's in Cassandra's av...
  5. Re: Wish List: Other Licensed Content Something in the Starlancer/Freelancer universe could be cool too...
  6. Re: Wish List: Other Licensed Content +1 to Stargate. Robert Asprin's Phule series could be good for a comedic RPG, and Harry Harrison's Stars & Stripes trilogy of Civil War alternate-history (basically, the Brits try to play divide-and-counquer and unintentionally reunite the Union to oppose them) could be kinda cool. Maybe a HERO Men In Black Roleplaying Game, Version 2.0?
  7. Re: Guns In The MHI RPG Gotcha, Steve. D6 was the original West End Star Wars RPG and a lot of their other titles through their last years.
  8. Re: Guns In The MHI RPG For example, on an online forum RPG I'm on, I write a character who carries what was once J. Edgar Hoover's personal Tommy gun... the TSMG itself I'd say should have a penalty for being difficult to repair or get parts for anytime after about the 1950s or 60s (even though the FBI did buy one last batch in '86 just before the line closed), and the Hoover Thompson specifically might get an individual bonus for psychological effects (whether fear in targets, morale in shooter or both) from its history, but a penalty for "Irreplaceable" and "Priceless Historical Artifact". Basically, sounds like ya got it covered. OT: My background is mainly D6 and D20, what's the learning curve going to be like?
  9. Re: Guns In The MHI RPG Generally, your real big differences are going to be ergonomics (some guns DO require a bigger frame of person to wield and smaller shooters should take a penalty, for example) or maintenance (certain irons are less reliable and break more frequently, some use commonly available parts while others are harder to get spares for, etc.). So, differentiating within a "caliber/barrel length" combo by abilities, bonuses or penalties sounds only reasonable.
  10. Re: the Return of Shadowcats Vehicular Insanity Shop: Armored Chevy Suburban Want some help on the CH-53E if it's still in development, since there's no link for it? I do some writing on a fiction forum where one of my characters is an Artificial Intelligence hardwired into a one-of-a-kind "super Super Stallion" that's part Pave Low, part Hind from Hell, so I've been doing a lot of research on the basic Echo including picking the brain of a contact from plane-modeling forums who used to be an engineer at Sikorsky. If my math's correct, a standard Super Stallion grosses at up to 50K#* in War Emergency conditions, and as a matter of normal ops my Blackout (point to the first one to get the in-joke) can get to triple that. (-E has three T64's at 4380SHP each, -K has three GE38-1B's at 7500SHP each, Blackout is written with four handbuilt experimental GE38X's at 10,000SHP each.)*N *Normal is limited to 46K.
  11. Re: the Return of Shadowcats Vehicular Insanity Shop: Armored Chevy Suburban Neat! I don't know how to read the stats yet, but it is cool to have somebody who works 'em on real-world vehicles. If Skippy's Hind helicopter isn't officially statted in the book, would you be game for tackling it or teaming up? (I can help with the raw stats for you to convert from, I'm assuming Skippy's is a Hind-D model specifically.)
  12. Re: the Return of Shadowcats Vehicular Insanity Shop Shadowcat, do you ever play with aircraft on your stats? I have a character I write in some online fiction, a hotrodded Pave Low helicopter that's become a full human-level Artificial Intelligence, that I'm starting to think about hatching specs on for the MHI RPG.
