    Sweet!

    Yes indeed!

I think _that's_ more in keeping with a fox, personally.  I love the headgear tweaks. the dark fox-like "points" of boots and gloves, ad the re-worked mask.

The shorter cape, with the full billows, looks _way_ less oppressive and far lighter; it doesn't give that "I'd really hate to sword fight with _that_ on me!" vibe (okay-- no one saw it because I caught it and fixed it, but my autocorrect just tried to convince me I meant to type "dwarf fight" instead.  Too funny not to share.  ;) ).

The re-worked headgear sends the same sense of character as the first one, but without that "re-purposed SWAT gear feel, and the little black edges on the "ears" of the mask?  Excellent tie in to the costume and the inspiration.

I love what you've done here, Sir.

(So, did you download Hero Designer while that was still an option?  Is that how you're able to still do this?)

Thank you for the kind words.  I do like the reworked head gear and cape.  On the fence if I should go with the smaller white/grey stripe I used on the no cape version instead...

I'm using chrome, and other than having to each time I load "allow" flash, it works fine for me (I think if you had flash installed before the changes...)

I stand by my statement that it's far more important that _you_ are happy with the character's look than it is that anyone else is happy with it.

I only restate it as assurance that the next question is nothing more than a request for enlightenment:

Your comment "I have to keep with his IRL primary purpose (as a showman for gadgets)" has left me a bit confused:   while I _think_ you're talking about the belt-of-many-pouches that gadget guys are known for, I am curious to know if you see some sort of cape-gadget guy relationship.

    Thanks.  :)

Glider cape, cloaking cape, defensive cape, .cape as weapon cape, that's off the top of my head...

It's your creation, of course, Sir, and you must go with what makes you the happiest.

Like TJack, I feel the character looks much more "foxy" without it, though: the cape is heavy and oppressive.  Foxes and lithe and almost fragile in appearance.  And to be honest, I can't imagine trying to even fake sword fight at anything about SPD1 with a floor-dragging quilt pulling on my shoulders and wrapped around my knees and elbows.

WIthout the cape, he _looks_ quicker, and more dashing.

I get it, but have to keep with his IRL primary purpose (as a showman for gadgets).  I also agree with archer that the cape ads a dynamic look.  It is however to heavy as is.  Looking at options....

Also I like the arrow so it does not work to have it tie at the neck

Oh, I'm sure I've seen or written-up variations on a lot of them before. I'm something of a utility bely aficionado. I like large numbers of things written up for specific power levels that I could theoretically plug-and-play without having to go through and re-create or figure out which piece of paper in which notebook that particular idea is written on,

Kind of how this all started.  I watched and wrote down each item used in Batman TAS & Justice League (By Batman) then stated them up.  All for 30 AP.  There is one power (Batgirl uses against Livewire) that has tormented me for years...

When I started to think of publishing it was when I created the Fox.  I liked the idea of the Phantom's legacy aspect, then the Zorro connection (Batman has a lot of him in there), and well here we are 6-7 years later....

If for some catastrophic reason you end up deciding not to publish anything at all, I'd still be very interested in seeing your write-up of the gadgets if you're willing to post them.

You might have seen them before....they were based mostly on the old Batman TAS show....But the first of a multi part series is planned after the star knights (so End of FEB).  It will be mostly my thoughts on VPP's as Gadget Pools and probably about 10-15 of the most iconic pieces.  It will also feature one legendary piece (his sword), and SynthTech armor.  Later chapters will concentrate on different classifications of geer (One on grenades, another on melee weapons, etc...).  Look for Fox Armory coming to you soon  :)

Ah, apologies. My mistaken impression was that he was part of a setting in a (near or far) future Star Knights thing rather than set in the current era.

Think of him as Batman and the Star Knigihts as Green Lantern (or if you remember the 90's Darkstars) and it all fits together well :)

I'm sure he has a set of Fox-bolos, Fox-Handcuffs, Fox-Tranqulizer darts, and such. Prehaps a Fox-A-Rang or two also.

I have ALOT OF Gadgets written up, most of them 30 AP and less than 16 Real points for him...I think the number of gadgets is around 100

Maybe a color change for the briefs area so his crotch doesn't stand out quite so much.

I'm not an artist to know how difficult changes would be but I'd extend the utility belt concept to include at least wrist compartments and boot top compartments. Maybe a series of neckline compartments.

I'd think a futuristic gadget guy would have even more need for compartments than a current era hero. And not every compartment would need to be outright gadgets. There's also lockpicks, medical kit, futuristic burner phone, inventor skill basic toolkit, forensics kit, antidotes, chalk, pen, his hovercraft keys, fake family photos to lead his enemies into a prepared trap, etc.

And it'd be more convenient for the character to not have to reach for his belt every time he needed to access anything at all.

Obviously the utility belt contents will have changed over the centuries. It might be interesting if the current Fox had examples of utility belt items (or perhaps a couple of full utility belts) of his predecessors.

At least one of the Foxes will have made the clasp of the cape into a Focus for something, even if the current Fox no longer does.

The cape looks detachable. Maybe capes for every occasion: fire resistant cape when facing Flame-Face, cold resistant cape when facing Cold Front, absorption cape, etc.

Part of the Fox's advantage might be that there's so many legends and news stories about the Fox over the centuries that no one really knows what the current Fox is capable of. A Fox who grew up on a heavy gravity planet could be super-strong by Earth standards. A Fox who liked incendiary grenades. A Fox who was phobic about fire. A Fox who wouldn't kill. A Fox who was a war hero and didn't mind killing when needed. A Fox who was a loner. A Fox who called the police before going into every situation. A Fox who could precisely imitate the voices of previous Foxes. A Fox who pretended to be the one and only immortal Fox....

Combine that with the changing roster of gadgets and you already have a hero who is pretty confusing to a casual observer even before he really leaned into being confusing.

Character is a modern day.  The original was centuries ago (Not future)

Clasp is a camera and communicator....

Old gadgets are planned....plus the sword is from the first Fox

That's an incorrect comparison.  It's 6 or 7 (MP) versus 7-9 (EC)...because that's presuming the Blast *is* being used.  (I am willing to assume that when you're using Blast, your FF is up.  BUT, you might not be flying.)  When the blast isn't in use, it's probably 3 versus 3...the FF does not have to be used at full power when cruising around in flight mode.  Heck, you can have it at 17/17 and it's 1 END.  In the MP it might be 50 points in the flight and 20 in the FF...but it's gonna be 3 END.

BUT, that's getting into optimization.  Heck, the *sweet* EC would be

    21 -- EC

    21 -- FF 17/17 1/2 END

    21 -- Flight 17 1/2 END

    29 -- Blast 10d6

That's 92 and it's 1 END each for the FF and flight.

But as noted, that's optimizing, and it's asking a fair bit for a newbie to look at that (and at *why* you want to do some of these)...and we haven't even talked about Limitations.

Another advantage of the MP construction is that it's faster and cheaper to slap in, let's say, a Flash.  And it tends to be simpler to explain.

The point I was making was why the EC cost more END.

  10. Basics on the character

Basically he is a generational ghost who walks type hero (People believe the longevity means he is supernatural or urban myth).  Begins as Zorro (150 years ago) but evolves into Batman in the present (ok, my image of Batman who is super capable but not as capable as Bats is these days...Bats at the turn of the millennium basically)

  11. So including a few pics of the originals.  I did darken the red/orange I think of foxes to an orange/brown.  Will consider darkening the cape.

That's where the notion of "newbie" comes in.  Because nothing in that EC says you can't use Reduced END or even 0 END, at least in 5E.  I vaguely remember that *wasn't* the rule in earlier editions, or that, at least, it had to cost END.  But JmOz' EC could be rewritten as

    25 -- EC

    25 -- FF 20/20 (1/2 END)  (END=2)

    25 -- Flight 20" (1/2 END) (END=2)

    25 -- Blast 10d6

And using everything together wouldn't be *too* bad.  And in this construction, the MP doesn't help;  the END cost when you need to blast is dropping only from 8 to 6, and that's assuming you don't have both the flight and FF active.

But the key is, this is rather a lot for someone just trying to learn.

You are of course correct, and it does make the math in the MP more varied, but the relative relationship remains (though reduced in severity)

So the MP user is using between 3-6 end a phase (more EB, higher the END use) to 9 END on the EC.  We could, of course, buy all the powers down to 0 END, but there are some different balancers that go into play (having to do with MP reserces)

  13. So major character in my last campeign, who is also going to be very important to a number of my Hall of Champions project is the Fox

The Fox is, at his core, an homage to three classic unpowered heroes

Zorro, Phantom, and Batman. There might be a bit of Katana in there as well, So this is what I came up with for a costume but would love a critique.  I really want those three characters to come through without being a pure rip off of....

    I'm not doubting you.

I am, however, trying to get my head wrapped around why they have END issues with EC and not with MP.

    A little help?

    :)

The Key thing to remember is that with a Mulltipower you have one power, EC you have one special effect

With an EC I can activate a Force Field, Fly, and Energy Blast at full effect the whole day long (Back in the day probably about 10 end a phase)

If I have a MP I have the pool and as I weaken my blast to raise my flight, my end stays the same

Example: So let's say I have 100 points for powers

    25 Light EC

    25 25/25 Force Field  (5)

    25 25" Flight               (5)

    25 10d6 EB                 (5)

    Total END                   15

    70  Light Manipulation MP

    10m 25/25 Force Field  (5)

    10m 25 25" Flight               (5)

    10m 25 10d6 EB                 (5)

Total END                             7 (As no more than 70 Active Points can be used)

Very cool! What is the goal, or is there a theme for the blog? Also, not sure if it can be helped, but your Wix is showing.

Over all it is MOSTLY about my gaming in general, but really the purpose is for me to have a place to just talk about what is on my mind.  I will be using it as a way to hold myself accountable for getting minatures painted and my Hall of Champions projects done
