  1. Re: Genre-crossover nightmares My local newspapers Movie Mash-Up, Halloween 2009 edition: Broadway Danny Rosemary's Baby (Broadway Danny Rose/Rosemary's Baby) In what may be his zaniest comedy, Woody Allen plays a hapless talent agent who gives birth to Satan's spawn. Let the Right One In The Mouth of Madness (Let the Right One In/In the Mouth of Madness) A sad Swedish vampire - 12 or 200 years old, depending on how you want to count - anchors John Carpenter's 1994 Lovecraftian homage. Exorcister Act (Exorcist/Sister Act) Whoopi Goldberg projectile vomits. Bad habit. The Corpse Princess Bride (Corpse Bride/The Princess Bride) Casting Robin Wright as a reanimated corpse? Inconceivable! ZombieLand of the Lost in Translation (Zombieland/Land of the Lost/Lost in Translation) The subtle and delicate indie charmer features Woody Harrelson fighting zombies, sleestaks, Scarlet Johansson and Bill Murray.

  3. Re: Things You'd See in a World Full of Supers... One of my campaigns had Mmmutant, a restaurant run entirely by Mutants. One of the cooks was a red-skinned, four armed mutant whose skin could get hot enough to cook hamburger; his "hand-made" burgers were quite good. One of the waitresses was a telepath, which helped speed up ordering ("Yeah, hon, I already know what ya want."). Most of the dishes were named after well-known heroes and villains; the DEMONion Rings were killer
  4. Re: Ben 10: Alien Force -Season 3 (6E) I think Brainstorm does have some KSs and SSs; on one of the marathons where they had Pop Up Video-like tidbits, I believe one said that Ben, working as Brainstorm, Grey Matter, and Benvicktor was able to make some upgrades on the Omnitrix.
  5. Re: Ben 10: Alien Force -Season 3 (6E) I'd not mind seeing Big Chill or Brainstorm next.

  10. Re: Your "Oh #@$%!" Moment D&D 3.5 game, Epic Level. Almost all-evil party (no good, only neutrals and evils), we'd traveled to many different planes (including alternate Primes/different campaign settings, and a few "omniversal monitoring stations" that could access other multiverses, like the DC and Marvel Universes and anything tangentially tied to them), and the characters were starting to get a bit bored. At one point, we decided to see just how destructive they could be. Rogue/Assassin took to assassinating entire cities, usually in the space of one night due to his numerous shadow powers. Big Bad Sorcerer rained fire down on cities, killing hundreds of thousands at a time. Bard/Necromancer introduced a new type of vampire to one world, one which fed on blood and sex. These, along with subtle political maneuverings, caused city after city to fall into decadence and then destruction. Then there was my character, a Doppelganger Psion who through assorted feats and prestige classes could gain all the supernatural and extraordinary abilities of any creature he could turn into (usually you only get some extraordinary and no supernatural abilities). He was actually the least murderous of the party, so he elected to go last. Beforehand, I had asked if, since the DC Comics Universe was one we'd been able to access, and since the Omniversal Monitoring Stations could access any tangentially-linked dimension, if that meant they could be used to access any Warner Bros. movie or film. Since this included lots of useful things, the GM said "sure." My shapeshifter had spent some time studying alternate worlds/dimensions, in order to discover new things to turn into. When his time came, he had the sorcerer open a portal to the Elemental Plane of Water, which he then entered. And then he turned into a Gremlin. The Elemental Plane of Water soon became the Elemental Plane of Gremlins. Any time someone cast "Create Water," they got Gremlins; Decanters of Endless Water became Decanters of Endless Gremlins. All the worlds sand planets connected to that Elemental Plane soon ended by drought and uncontrolled fires and chaos, in part b/c firefighters now no longer had their magical water-creating items, and in part b/c some world's oceans were fed by natural portals to the Elemental Plane of Water, which were now spewing out Gremlins. Well, all except that cosmos' Elemental Plane of Fire, they pretty much ruled everything. We quickly left that campaign setting. (I think it had been Toril/Forgotten Realms.)

  14. Re: The Bronze King is up! That's pretty nifty! Though I also agree that the lion head looks more like a wolf's head.
  15. Re: Some Book Of The Machine Pages Posted Shiny Am I the only one who thinks the lines "Mechanon prefers to create its own advanced materials, often based on the substances its first form was created with, rather than rely on mundane materials whenever possible. Its advances in alloying other metal with questionite would revolutionize many fields" are an implication that Mechanon's first form was made, at least in part, of questionite? Mayhaps Mechanon's origin and the source of questionite are linked....
  16. Re: Not "Secret", not "Public", just "Identity" There's a char in CKC who has neither a Public nor Secret ID. Morningstar. It's described thusly:
  17. Re: The Book Of The Destroyer So is Doctor D comfortable with not being able to receive radio/tv transmissions from Earth on Zuflucht (his super-secret base hidden in the asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter) until 30+ minutes after they're broadcast? It'd make responding to certain thigns nearly impossible.
  18. Re: Buying Souls/Demonic Pacts As I explained in the first sentence of my original post, this is indeed for a villainous character.
  19. Re: Buying Souls/Demonic Pacts Hrrmm... Healing (Trigger [killing person whose soul is owed to him]; Reduced END, Self Only)?
  20. I'm playing a villainous character in an online/play-by-post game*, and my char is patterned fairly heavily on Tartarus, the half-demon antiques dealer of the Devil's Advocates from Arcane Adversaries (I always thought the character was very nifty; I'm also a fan of Stephen King's Needful Things). My question: how could I stat an ability to buy souls/enter into a demonic pact with some other person? This is an ability he'd have after a short trip/banishment to Hell (an excuse to spend several earned experience points). Since this is an ability a PC would be having, stats for the power are necessary, though conversely it's also not going to be as potent as a Plot Device/Origin Story type of pact (he won't be creating Ghost Riders or SABBACs, or even Ezekiel Stones, but he could make someone into a skilled architect or doctor or musician). My initial thought was a version of Transform (mortal with a soul to mortal with a tainted soul, new demon-granted abilities, and a Vulnerability [x2] to demonic effects [uncommon]). The points gained from the Limitation can be used to buy whatever new abilities the demon grants (Money, Status, increased Characteristics, powers, etc.), but when the demon comes calling it can kill (or mind control or whatever) the mortal far more easily than usual. Would this work? Is more needed? Or am I going about it completely wrong? * The system used is not HERO, but it is one I can convert things to from HERO with little difficulty.
  21. Re: Fallout 3: Postapocalyptica I love Oblivion, and hope to be getting Fallout 3 for X-Mas. In fact, if All Goes According To Plan, I may be getting it tonight. Which'll give me something Very Nifty to do during my week and a half of winter vacation
  22. Re: Empowered by Adam Warren Not quite. Summary: DC & Marvel hold a joint trademark on the term "super heroes" (and variations thereof, like "superhero" and "super-hero") for use in publications (you cannot copyright a phrase), which only means that they are the only ones who can use "super-hero" in the title of their comics & on the packaging of their action figures and trading cards and pencil sharpeners and so on. They filed for this trademark back in 1979, and had it registered in 1981.
  23. Re: Going from Champions to Mutants and Masterminds I like both, though favor M&M a bit more simply because that's what I'm more familiar with. (I didn't get into HERO until CKC came out for 5th Ed., but was in on M&M -- and the D20 System on which it's loosely based -- from their beginning.) I'd gladly play in both, but every time I start in a HERO game, RL events conspire to take me away from it. (I don't think I've ever played in a HERO game long enough to finish a single combat!)
