The heroes are receiving their mail. As a replacement team, none of them are particularly famous.

Siafu: Oh! I got a fan letter! (reads) "Dear Siafu, Our teacher said we have to write a letter to our favorite superhero. I don't have a favorite superhero, so I threw a dart at a national list and I got you..."

A rather creepy necromantic villain has developed an obsession with the team leader. Also in the mail came a large wooden box. There's no return address, and the label reads "every woman deserves flowers and a puppy."
Beater: All right, I'd like everyone to take a step back. You don't all have to see this.
Heavy Metal: (slow on the uptake) Wait -- Shouldn't that box have holes in it?

incidently, this reminds me of a character in a game played long ago. He was an Earth Elemental Druid. His spirit was forced from his plane by an evil sorcerer, he was to be used as a weapon against the sorcerer's enemies but joined them instead, being a noble and good being. However, the sorecerer had created the vessal for his spirit, an obsidian statue that looked quite demonic. He joins the heroes and in his first meeting of the press they asked him the usual questions and finally it came to this exchange (not verbatum but...)

Reporter: You're heroic actions belie your form. Why did you choose such a look?

Blaquestone: I'm sorry...I am new to your language...what did you ask?

Reporter: Well your look is terrifying; why did you choose it?

    Blaquestone: Terrifying?
He looked to his other allies and then back to the reporter.
    Blaquestone: I frighten children?

Reporter (Suddenly, not so eager for the answer): Well, yeah, I mean no disrespect, but you scare the bejeezus out of me.

    Blaquestone: *Begins to cry*

    Reporter: ...

Dreamqueen: "Way to go, you bully!"

Curiously enough; the first villains we faced after that were a group of mercenaries. Including Bulldozer. He spent the entire conflict insulting Blaquestone's "Manhood". Ofcourse that particular "Entire Conflict" lasted about 4 segments before Bulldozer was ...er, dozing.

The game was a Star Trek adventure. Just as we were about to head into the suspicious nebula, the player who was playing the captain had his cell go off. He picked up the phone, opened it, snapped "I'm busy!" and hung up. (He'd specifically arranged to be off-call for the game time, and someone ignored that.)

Turned out the nebula was a time-vortex. After several iterations, it became clear that the solution to the problem was to nevr have gone into the nebula in the first place. We managed to get clear several seconds before "game start" and sent an urgent message to the captain telling him not to go in.

I paused. "Oh! No! We're doomed. That was the call he refused to take!"

One of my players was notorious for naming chartacters if their player didn't come up with a good codename fast enough. (This gave us, among others, "Mgobo, the Human Taffy" - I still don't know where the 'mgobo' part came from). A new player was warned about this. She had a mystical sword that, when activated, generated armor and some other powers. About halfway through her first session, they sent her in to talk to the villan hunting the team figuring he wouldn't know her and she could get close. He asked her to identify herself, and she told him "My name is... Excalibabe!!"

    From my Pulp/Horror/Modern HERO game.

I can't draw at all, but one of my players is a professional. He ran up these pencil sketches...

Char is a 19 year old college football star. He's obsessed with his little sister's unsolved abduction, 10 years ago.

Dan was a cop once. He also used to be sane. Then this happened to him. See the what he's doing to his arm in the pic? He's carving runes into his own flesh to keep the monsters off.

Sam is a hard-boiled detective who's been burned by magic one time too many. But do the others listen?

Sara was the agency's secretary, until they found out she was clairvoyant.

Vincent is the agency's resident mad scientist. Doesn't every detective agency need one?

Dude! You got 12 hours notice! Go you!

There is always the sockpuppet alternative. We had an unreliable player who was finally replaced by a sockpuppet (well, actually, we just made mouthmoving gestures with our fingers while calling out her catchphrases). It worked... remarkably well, actually.

This is an old one, actually, but I'm new to the boards...

We were fighting a supervillain who turned out to have been my characters Economics professor before he mutated. In the middle of combat, I hit him with "OH, yeah? Well, if you're so good at economics, how come you don't know Crime Doesn't PAY!!?"
