  1. I am looking to start a science fiction campaign, primarily a space opera with emphasis on political intrigue and adventure style missions. I am torn between using D20 future, which I own, or the Hero system. I own the core book for Hero, but nothing to do with their science fiction compaign. My main issue is that from my experience with Hero, it seems awfully complex. My players range in age from 15-18 and I'm worried they may not grasp the mechanics of Hero. Even for myself, I'm a little concerned that Hero may be too complex and not worth the effort. I'd really like some opinions out there from people who actually play Hero in a fantasy setting. Do you find that the games get bogged down with mechanics? Is there enough books to provide stats so that I don't need to stat out the entire universe? Overall, between D20 future and Hero, which system is best at running a science fiction setting?
  2. Ok.. First an easy question. Drain Body 4d6. You die if you are reducded below 0 body, right? Is This power too strong? Seems like things die really quickly. All you do is make an attack roll, and if you hit, the target takes a 4d6 body drain right? Second... Darkness to sight group, personal immunity, no endurance cost, 3" Is this too powerful? I walk around with a cloud of blackness... so that makes all direct OCV ranged attacks automatically 0? They automatically miss unless you roll a 3, right? All hth attacks are at half OCV? This power seems to be more annoying then anything else..
  3. Hello, I am fairly new to the game and so is the game master who is running the campaign. I am trying to make a power and am having trouble working through the mechanics... Any help would be appreciated. Basically, the power manifests itself as a claw of black energy with which I make a melee attack with. If it hits, I deal damage, drain body, and heal my own body. This is what I got so far: Abyssal Claw HTH (10d6 negative energy) 1/2 HTH limitation, 1/4 no knockback 60 active/40 real Healing (2d6 body) +1 3/4 for once each phase, -3/4 for linked at full power only 55 active, 37 real Drain Body (3d6 body) +1 reduced return rate of 5 per 1 hour, -3/4 for linked at full power only 60 active, 40 real Any help at reducing the cost of this power would be great! 17 endurance to use makes it really tough.
  4. Heya guys, I am very new to the whole Hero game experience. I have never played in an actual game, and unfortunately I am the only one in our circle of players willing/able to run it. I only own the basic Champions book, the Hero system Sidekick book, th supervillian basic book, and the Millinium City book. None of the players know anything of the rules, and I only know whats in the sidekick rulebook. So here are my problems, if anyone is able/willing to help.. First of all, my players need help making characters. I am having problems making the powers of three of the players (the fourth wanting to play just an enhanced physical character) Player One wants the ability to manipulate and mold metal at a distance. I can figure out most of his power tricks, but I am having problems trying to simulate his ability to mess with other people utilizing metal (such as powered armor guys, people made of metal, robots, ect).. Any ideas? Player two wants to be able to shift into animal forms.. sigh. Do I have to stat out every animal? To I need to buy the bestiary? Player three wants to be able to return from the dead whenever he is killed.. like with a three day delay. I am so lost on this one. Any help? I have been looking for the core revised edition rulebook, but every place seems to be sold out. Any other books a must buy? Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks.
