  2. Re: Space fightercraft in RPGs. Never actually thought about that.. hmmm, may have to go back and look things over a bit. However, if my crew has there way we will be rebooting an older campaign called "Indigo One". So it may not even come up. Although knowing my group they will eventually end up having some sort of attack craft anyway LOL.

I am of two minds on this subject... on the one hand I love the idea of small fighter craft (ala Star Wars), however I know that realistically they are unfeasible. I used to include them in my games only because my players seemed to expect them. Had one player that always played an ace pilot type and would have a cow if there were no small craft for him to fly around in. I usually modeled my fighter craft after the vessels used on Babylon 5.. no aerodynamic turns or anything like that. I felt and still feel that it had the feel that I was looking for from space battles. However, this did not sit well with said player... so I scrapped the game and moved onto a fantasy game. Second mind, it always seems that in any space game, you only have one or maybe two people that want to play fighter jocks and the rest... well they seem to have to sit on the sidelines every time you give face time to the fighter aces. I eventually concluded that it was just not in the best interest to have craft that small in the game. Especially since a craft that small realistically can't take that much damage and not explode. So, when I revamped my space hero game a few years back, I went with a concept similar to both Xavier's and David Webber's.. the LAC. The players that want to be ace pilots, still can be, and the rest of the players can fill other roles on board the attack craft. Now I must mention, unlike Xavier, my small attack craft are not FTL capable. They must be brought in on a larger ship and launched in system. This I stole directly from the Honor Harrington books All in all I do like the concept of fighter craft that are not huge ships of war, I just don't see really small ones being feasible weapons platforms with any kind of realistic survival rate, to do any good in protracted engagement.

(6th Edition) Sorry mate I have some done up for 4th ed, not sure how well they would translate over to 6th ed.. or should I say I am not sure how well I will be able to translate them. They were modeled after the main star fighters on Babylon 5. I will see if I can find them among my notes and give it a go on translating them.. give me a day or so.
  8. Re: A Whole New World This sounds a great deal like something Farmer did with his world of Teirs series... perhaps the "gods" are simply powerful beings identical to humans, but far more powerful. One or more created the world, got tired of it and moved on. Just a thought.

  10. Re: Companions of an Uncertain Fate Just my own opinion here. If I read things correctly you lowered base stats to 5, under the old (and your own rules) this gives a 9- with no points spent. Normally under standard rules that would be 11-. So already the characters are at a slight disadvantage. As they will only gain one point over a familiarity with a given skill. I think that this is probably the root of the problem, unless you allow for a lot of Skill levels or reset the normal 9+stat/5 (or 4 for that matter), the characters are not going to fair well on their skill rolls. Personally I like what you have done, but IF you wish for more successes on the skill front, you may wish to rework it a bit.

  15. Re: Alliance Star Ship Vorpal Blade @REX, IIRC Janissaries, was a series written by Jerry Pournelle.. I have read most if not all of the series myself. The thought of someone running a game based on that series makes me just say "WOW, man do I want to play in that game". Great premise and story and would be great to play in.

"Tiny" grew up on a high G colony world, he carries and operates the squads mini gun like most others carry and operate their standard weapon. He got his nickname from his first Squad leader, who had forgotten his real name.. "hey get over here.. err.. Tiny" and it has stuck with him ever since.

  19. Re: Field/Camping Gear It makes excellent sense, and is very informative to boot. For what it is worth, that is kinda what I was thinking. In one game I ran years ago, the characters (Ships crew in a Sci fi game) had access to many different kits, that gave bonuses to their skills.

  22. Re: Package Deals? Seems like a good Idea. I remember in 4e that you also got a few extra points for going with a package deal. IIRC it ranged from 1 to 5 points based upon how many points contained in the package. When I run games I allow the disads from a package to be in addition to the normal disads.
