  1. This really falls into "whatever floats you boat." I don't see the need to roll high on skills because Hero Designer gives you the skill numbers as #- already. But I have used 3D6+OCV vs 10+DCV for combat since the beginning because that just makes sense to me and my players...
  2. Not a very organized way of looking at the old forum posts for sure, but you could just go back to the highest page number you can access -- it leads to the beginning discussions right as 5th Edition was released.

  4. IN THE MOUTH OF MADNESS is horror, but it is pulp horror, with the PI (a very good Sam Neill) tracking down a pulp horror writer a la Stephen King without the name who has ducked out of sight. LA CONFIDNTIAL is straight up noir -- it has got a tv show within the movie showing you how different reality ("the movie") is, if you're are picking up what I am putting down. SIN CITY plays off the same noir world of The Batman comics, but it is so over the top that it is pulp. Marv and Dwight are a bunch of low level supers. ANGEL CITY BLUES is the name of a campaign I am planning that is me taking a spin at SIN CITY...
  5. The question really is do YOU want him to hear it? Do you want him to have a chance? Rule of Cool always wins -- make the coolest stuff happen, and your players will love the game...
  6. The Dreamtime bound Gunslinger's gun sounds like The Sixth Gun comic book, which kicks ass. The picture of the wheelchair bound guy reminds me of an awful b-movie called ENEMY TERRITORY. It had Jan Michael Vincent as a nutball wheelchair bound Vietnam vet who could fire missiles from his chair. Always remember, the purpose of Hero System is to have fun -- the system will eventually come to you. What is the coolest thing to happen RIGHT NOW which is more important then remembering " does he have to make an EGO check to not pass out?"

  8. The more I think about, the more I think this is a great idea. Why should a mechanical limit exist in a game where the GM is supposed to be in complete charge. The GM should just set a limit on the characteristics...

  10. So I looked at how 5e did it and they do not effect Characterisic Maximas at all. I will just redo the Package Deals to 5e standards then. Much easier to deal with. Thanks.
  11. When pricing a package deal in 4th edition, when you use increased Characteristic Maxima, do you also buy up the Characteristic as well? Example: if I buy Dexterity Characteristic Maxima as 23, it costs 6 CPs. Does that also mean I start with a 13 in Dexterity? Thanks in advance...
  12. A different way to do this: No post 12 recoveries. A recovery action takes a whole turn to do. Just spit balling...
  13. Since Healing has been made it's own adjustment power, does that mean say Aid can no longer heal characteristics/powers? Example: if a person is down 18 points of Stun, and I use Aid to give him 10 points, does it still come down by 5 points every turn.

  15. The next stat block in the book, the Raiders, is also missing the same characteristics. I am thinking that the have received nor taken any CPs and should be considered zero.
  16. Sorry, didn't know we're else's on go with this question. On page 26 of Alpha Central on the Ratsquad Stat Block there is no entry for the OCV, OMCV, DCV, and DMCV are missing. Is this errata, or is there something I am missing about Hero System Rules?

  18. In 3rd edition, there is a chart for Life Support Costs. It is a list of powers that come with the cost and it works that if you bought the 3rd item on the list then you have items 1, 2, and 3. At 15 points it gives the following: 1) ability to breathe underwater. 2) no need to breathe & immune to inhaled gasses. 3) immune to gasses absorbed through the skin. Does this help? (Just woke up and still need to feed the java monkey on my back.)
  19. I feel Hero has enough skills to handle the job. If others do not, then people should explode skills as necessary. A lot of the skills needed for investigation are Knowledge & Professional skills anyway. For example, a detective comes to visit a bartender in a dive bar. My he GM asks for the players Profession: Bartender (it is a side job he takes on when money is tight) skill. Rolls against and gets 1 under. He supplies ( or acts out ) 2 clues. The GM has the players character sheets as he designs the adventure. He is going to make sure everyone is going to shine.
  20. This is also a great way to design plots that are combat free or just have a big combat at the end.
  21. This is me rambling about the GUMSHOE system. A roleplaying engine that powers TRAIL OF CTHULHU, NIGHT'S BLACK AGENTS and others. It was designed by Robin Laws and is supposed to answer the question, "What happens when an investigative PC blows an investigation roll and now the PCs will never have the clue needed to solve the adventure." you have them roll Laws built a rules-light engine answering this question by having the PCs always finding a clue when it is presented. No roll needed. The clue does not give the players the knowledge they seek -- they will have to take all the clues gathered and put them together to find out the solution. I have never played a GUMSHOE game but I have read NIGHT'S BLACK AGENTS and think it is ripe with HERO conversion possibilities. But Laws did not have to create a new game system to use this advice. Here is the GUMSHOE advice translated for the HERO SYSTEM user. When you design an investigative adventure you list out a bunch of locations and a bunch of skills the player has and generate 3 clues for each location that will eventually piece together the mystery being investigated. When they enter that location and have the proper skill they roll: 1) They fail the roll and they get one clue. 2) They succeed at the roll and they get 2 clues. 3) They succeed the skill roll by half and they get 3 clues. Thoughts?

  23. Weird question for a wuxia-style power. A guy can jump very far, but it is slow enough that while in air he could shoot someone, per se? Or have a sword fight with another jumper like what happens in BIG TROUBLE IN LITTLE CHINA.
  24. 1962 is the time of THE MAN IN THE HIGH CASTLE. It was fun. I am a fan of the novel, but it has been at least 15 years since I last read it. I do not think it is following the books story at all, but like I said, it has been awhile. I always believed that the actual filming of the story would be impossible due to the novel-within-the-novel called THE GRASSHOOPER LIES HEAVY. I never thought about making it a newsreel film. Want to see how much this new fact changes the story. I hope the show makes the cut and they make more episodes..
  25. The list of the powers missing from SIDEKICK REVISED is on page 40 in the sidebar. Throughout the book in the sidebars should be everything missing from the full rules. Great gaming!
