    Faceless

Frances Lecter was a minor YouTube celebrity with a channel all about horror movie reviews. The chemical have brought the horror film character he has started writing a screenplay about called "Faceless" to life. When he transforms into Faceless, he is a super humanly strong and durable being without a face nor need to breathe and a violent streak which makes Jason Voorhees look like a quire boy.

Even when not transformed, Frances has become more antisocial, rairly posting his reviews on YouTube anymore, and quick to anger and resort to violence. Faceless' trademark is to rip off the faces of the people he has killed.

I would use Summon as opposed to a straight duplication. If a duplicate dies you can never get it back. While summon allows you to regain them when they die.

Duplication can also be a special effect of various other powers (stretching, extra limbs, area of effect physical Blast, ect).

Standard Brother Bone plot (with apologizes to the very late Hershel Gordon Lewis).

Brother Bone, using illusions to disguise himself, opens a health resort of the rich and important. The person goes there for a couple of months then comes back seemingly healthy and fit. Then they start doing odd things with their fortune.

They actually died at the resort but was made into a zombie who can't do anything except what Brother Bone orders. To make matters worse, the zombie is covered by illusions and anti-rot magic so his true nature can go unnoticed. Eventually when Brother Bone sees no use for him, the zombie dissapeared (presumably to instantly rot to dust).

What Brother Bone needs the victim for is up to the GM, but it should be noted that Bone might like the sheen of gold and gems, he doesn't actually need money. But if the zombie can convince more people to visit his resort of health...

I can see Brother Bone wanting full behind the scenes control over the world's medical system. It's more out of his delusions about his magic actually dealing with healing as opposed to creating undead.

Surrounded by illusions he probably has multiple other identities.

Me? I don't have a campaign per say. But I'll say yes. I would love to see an expanded The Great Beast, especially what his actual beast form looks like (a humanoid variation of the biblical Great Beast maybe, complete with multiple heads?). And remember my tribute to Crongberg in the Create a Villain thread ("The New Flesh"). I'm sure the Think Tank needs to be out there under It's new name. I would love to see Brother Bone again, this time as a semi-indpendant necromancer "healer".

None of my heros have anything to calm down a crowd.

John Roberts (the man who was the teen superhero Sunburn): Will try to use his media skills as SSN reporter and infamous exsuperhero to calm the crowd. And if that fails, help coordinate the heroes.

Elenjar (Tenchi Morosoto): His main focus is to protect his DNPC (she made a wish on the Goddess Help Line for someone cool like Elenjar to protect her forever, and the Ultimate Force WILL enforce the wish, no matter what). Once she is safe (and kept safe), he tries to call his mother Beldandy and his aunties to help calm the mob down.

Note: Elenjar is still just a concept, considering his origin as Beldandy's son and how bleeping powerful he should be but probably can't be just yet...

steriaca got a reaction from Khymeria in IHA Book Review
I just got the book and skimmed through it. Nice work. I love that Genocide existed, as did IMAGE. The history section tells the fall of both organizations (with Genocide mostly killed by it's own hand by revealing themselves too soon, and a very well played plot by the IHA to assassinate Murdock, the leader of IMAGE). They took advantage of The Battle of Detroit to assassinate Apostle, Flamboyant, and Mustang.
And of course, tons more history. We got bases, tons of leaders (many of them normal, but Archer Samuels is a cyborg), agents (all named via military lnes, as opposed to Genocide's chest mosfet), Minuteman MARK 7 and Minuteman Tracker MARK 3 robots, and there own "supervillains" Hunter (well trained and equipped normal), Shi No Te (demon possessed martial artist who works for IHA only to kill challenging foes), and MTU846 (a mutant killing robot ah la Terminator from Kinematik's earth).

Also included are the villain groups Revenge Evolution (Vengeance [Murdock's son], Eterno, Spector, and La Bete), and Sons of the Father (a mutant and mutant liking normal biker gang lead by Jason "Father" Todd, and includes Speedy, Eric "Punch" Todd, Zapper, Tess "The Doctor" Madrikan, Melissa "[nickname withheld for reasons]" Tolgaharna, and various unnamed normal bikers).

And a few important individual mutants, like Cat's Eye (ex hero turned assassin by IHA actions), Popper (teleporting kid who needs your help), Shadow Fire (mutant teacher who generates black colored fire), and Death (homeless mutant man who has a powerful death touch).

Also included is an adventure "What A Goddess Will Do For Her Child". Elaine Debone wants her son back. And Black Rose, the escaped Stronghold resident, is willing to help. And...well...the secret between them is something. I'll just leave it at that.

All in all, it is well written. It doesn't ignore Genocide at all (they existed, they were destroyed, IHA picked up what was left). I recommend it.

Sounds like you would just LOVE Mouse from Ranma 1/2. He is one character who shouldn't have a Focus limitation at all, but a Variable Special Effects advantage, a "Can Be Disarmed" limitation (-1/4 at most), and maybe a zero point "Subject To Running Out In Moments Of Funny" (-0).

Optionally it could be an excuse for a Variable Power Pool as a "Hidden Weapons And Tools (Kept Inside Robe Till Needed)" Pool.

steriaca reacted to Lord Liaden in Custom Advantages?
We've all seen the vast number of Custom Limitations on Power constructs that have appeared in HERO System published books since, well, forever. And undoubtedly many of us here have come up with our own Lims over the years. Tailoring Powers to function in particular ways or under specific circumstances is a well-established feature of the system.

I'm wondering if anyone here has invented their own Custom Advantages for Powers that they'd care to share? Obviously the official system already gives us a huge variety of them, but perhaps you identified some deficiency in the rules you felt could be filled by a new Advantage? If so, other people might benefit from your sharing them here.

One that I've used for quite a while is for Energy Blast/Blast, "Strength Adds To Damage" (+1/2). The mechanic, and the cost of the Advantage, is based on Killing Attack, Hand-To-Hand, with the Ranged Advantage, which has been part of the core rules since Fifth Edition. That construct has three components, the base Damage, additional Damage added due to Strength, plus the addition of Range. Since Blast has base Damage plus Range already, the custom Advantage adds the third, making it work the same way as Ranged HKA, except for Normal Damage instead of Killing Damage.

A Ranged HKA is explicitly described in the rules as most often representing HTH weapons which can also be thrown at a target. But there may be times when your intent or your concept is better represented by using Normal Damage. The example I usually think of is the hammer wielded by comic-book Thor.

Does anyone else have examples you'd like to offer?

steriaca reacted to Clonus in The Meldverse
Combining heroes with villains has a tendency to lend a grotesque flavour to Meld's hero population.  While Thunder Woman is conventionally attractive as a combination of Wonder Woman and Thundra apart from being about a foot taller than Wonder Woman the others are turning out a bit grotesque.  For example our next entry:

In the 19th century a strange meteorite landed in Europe made out of a glowing green mineral with the additional strange property of turning the flesh of those who touched it a translucent green that left the underlying skeleton visible.  In honour of this property the sculptor in whose hands it fell chose to carve it into a bust depicting the visage of a green skull.  He did various things with the scraps he'd carved away, turning them into stones set into rings and necklaces.  They faded into clarity about a day after being separated from the main mass but would turn green if brought back into contact with it.  A group of people who became known as the Green Flame Society discovered that the gems would temporarily grant them superhuman powers which they used as secretly as possible to become wealthy and influential as they played a crucial role in the formation of Germany.   In the end, however they were devastated by infighting between the pro and anti-Nazi factions in the 1930s, and the Skull and several of the power items fell into the hands of one Alain Schmidt who fled to the United States and made his superhero debut as the Green Skull, endowed with a dizzying array of superpowers that included invisibility, insubstantiality, flight, telepathy, and forcefield generation.  He dedicated himself to defending his new country with all his many powers but after the war a former friend became his arch-enemy, Captain Anarchy.

In the years leading into American entry into World War II, the United States invested resources in a "super-soldier" program with mixed results that include the man who would one day becomes known as Captain Anarchy when developing psychosis as a side effect of the treatment as well as a deathly pale complexion and lips drawn back in a near-permanent rictus that put something that can loosely be described as a smile on his face.  Armed with a circular shield made out of an exotic metal that tore through Green Skull's defenses, he became that hero's most dangerous foe in the post-war era.

steriaca got a reaction from Nekkidcarpenter in Hound 13's Martial Arts
I just had a thought about Hound 13, a young mutant whose powers are all based on Luck. One thing which got me thinking is that he could possibly possess Martial Arts under the special effect that he is lucky (dodges out of the way for the last second before his opponent could hit him, wild swing punch which actually hits a cluster of pressure points at just the right time, etc.).

Considering this is a part of his mutant powers, is it legal to buy his martial arts with the Unified Power limitation? Should it be bought per manuvers, or through the entire martial arts?

The Freakish Four: This foursome of strange-looking heroes were blessed and cursed with power thanks to a mysterious anomaly in space. They consist of:

Jackie Frost: A beautiful animate ice statue of a woman, Jackie Frost has powers over cold and frozen water. Despite her powers she’s a fun-loving thrill seeker who wants her sister to “lighten up”. She’s always up for a snowball fight but she’s also a brilliant physicist.

Shadow Woman: Jackie Frost’s sister, Susan is the mistress of stealth, able to become a two-dimensional living shadow, take shortcuts through the Darkness Dimension, create animate entities of “solid darkness” and boost her strength in shadows.

Claymore: Jackie’s actor boyfriend Ben has become the Face of the team since while his clay monster form is quite frightening his shapeshifting power allows him to regain his cinema-idol good-looks for part of each day and pass for normal. He keeps his misery hidden from the public.

Dr. Richard Woodrue: Briefly tried to call himself Doctor Floronic but there was universal agreement that name was unbelievably terrible so he stuck with his actual name. He’s half-man, half plant, and all scientist. Unlike his younger colleague Jackie he’s serious-minded and a bit pompous. Even so he managed to become romantically involved with Susan.

The Four have foes of course.  For example

Clayshaper: An older actor envious of Claymore’s career, he managed to get his hands on a small sample of Claymore’s body and managed to bond with it, giving himself much more limited shapeshifting powers as well the power to create clay statuettes of people that could influence their minds or large statues that could copy a character’s form and powers.

Doctor Terrific: A genius associate of Jackie Frost and Dr. Woodrue he used that genius to develop technology to become a superhero in his own right until a combat injury caused facial disfigurement that he blamed Woodrue for since Woodrue was there and he had always regarded the other man as a rival. Since then he has been secretly creating threats to attack the Freakish Four while still acting as a now grimmer hero in a suit of powered armor. Even so, it is only a matter of time before he becomes known as Doctor Terror.

Metalsmith: Another genius, he has uploaded his own mind into a robot body and crafted more robots to challenge the Four, a team that consists of Silver Ghost who can turn intangible, Iron Vulture who can fly and is very strong, Red Mercury who fights with with stretchy semi-liquid tentacles that can drain vitality, Golden Dragon who can fly and breath fire and Galena who can alter her mass and create barriers

One of the more intresting things about the way the Light Finger Lady gives out free drink tokens. The servers usually reverse pick pocket them to the target. There is a sign somewhere which advises that the staff will use this skill to pass on information on specials and free drink tokens (usually given to drunks to say 'you had enough, but please come back').
