  1. Re: [Online Game]New 'Marvel: Next Generation' game It still could be worse. You could be the daughter of Batroc the Leaper... or even Better, BEWARE KERMIT, THE SON OF TOAD!
  2. Re: [Online Game]New 'Marvel: Next Generation' game I am far from an expert at Champions and have no experience in online games, but I have played in high point games a few times. Crusher is built to able to dish out and take a 90 AP attack, but if everyone is going for closer to 75 I'll tone him down a bit. I noticed many of the characters are not designed to resist an 18 dice attack. Is this too soon to discuss things like builds and points?
  3. Re: [Online Game]New 'Marvel: Next Generation' game I made some updates to Crusher (page 8) in anyone wants to have a look.
  4. Re: [Online Game]New 'Marvel: Next Generation' game I am still interested. My submission was Crusher, the son of the Absorbing Man and Titania. He is a Metamorph/ Brick.
  5. Re: [Online Game]New 'Marvel: Next Generation' game Though I have played alot of Champions, I have never played in an online game. I had originally only planned to lurk until I got the hang of the online thing, but this game just sounds too cool not try to get involved in. If noone has an objection to an online noob, I'd like to throw my hat in the ring for a spot in the game. My submission is "Crusher", the son of The Absorbing Man and Titania (stats previosuly posted).

He was raised in an orphanage under the false name Rocky Davis, to protect him from the stigma of his parents’ criminal careers. Though he had no idea who his true parents were, he unfortunately inherited some of there more nasty personality traits. Rocky was seemingly destined to follow in their footsteps and lead a life of crime. Bigger and stronger than the other children, he quickly graduated from childhood mischief to petty crimes and soon spent some time in a local juvenile detention center. On his 18th birthday he inherited a trust fun from an unknown benefactor who he later found out was his father, The Absorbing Man. With his new found riches, he attempted to leave his street life behind him, but it eventually caught up with him. Some of his old “friends†wanted a taste of his inheritance, and when he refused, they shot him and left him for dead. Bleeding to death on the pavement, he clawed and grasped for life, and then suddenly his pain was gone. He rose to discover he had become living asphalt. Afterward, he experimented with his new powers and found he could absorb the properties of anything he touched. He was also left with vast superhuman strength and durability even between transformations, which he later found out he inherited from his mother, Titania. It didn’t take long for him to discover his true identity. Despite his joy at finding out who his parent really were, his traumatic experience made him determined not to follow in their footsteps and become a criminal. Carl Jr. chose to call himself “Crusherâ€, a name used by his father during his boxing career. During his father’s latest attempt to lead a peaceful life, Creel Sr. gave Crusher his ball-and-chain to aid him in his pursuit as a hero. He seemed proud that his son had chosen a better life. For a short time he was part of a heroic duo with the heroine “Plasmaâ€, the daughter of Volcana and the Molecule Man, who sought him out due to their common pasts. A failed romance split up their team and has left them rivals in the public spotlight. Crusher recently discovered he has a little sister and he has become very protective of her. He calls her “Skeeterâ€, the name their mother nicknamed her. He is also a fan of boxing and likes to watch matches in his free time. Personality/ Motivation Despite the distrust of the authorities and other heroes, Crusher is determined to redeem his parents’ name and lead the life of a hero. Along with their more severe personality defects, he has also inherited their courage and tenacity. Though his experiences on the streets of New York have taught him that criminals often only understand force, he also understands that no one is a “lost causeâ€. Powers/ Tactics Crusher can lift/ press roughly 100 tons, placing him just below the “Class 100†Strength Level. In combat he likes to attack with his father’s ball-and-chain and absorb the properties of materials that may allow him to exploit his opponents’ vulnerabilities. Though he is new to the superhero game and has limited experience in combat against other superhumans, he has spent a reasonable amount of time training with his mother, who is one of the few beings in the universe who can boast to being trained by Tryco Slatterus. Though he seems to possess the same absorbing powers of his father, he has not yet mastered the wide arsenal of tricks used by Creel Sr. during his career. His father assures him that this will come with time. Costume/ Appearance Crusher’s costume is similar to his mother’s two-tone light and dark purple tights, but without a mask to conceal his face. He also, of course, is always accompanied by his father’s ball-and-chain. Luckily for him, he has inherited more of his mother’s statuesque features, than his father’s “rugged looksâ€.
  7. Re: [Online Game]New 'Marvel: Next Generation' game Here's one that has his parents already picked... The child of the Absorbing Man and Titania. If you use Sky High rules, he would be a high-end brick with the Absorbing Man's powers and possibly an inherited magic ball and chain. [edit] If it were for a lower powered campaign, I would still make him a brick but only have the ball and chain have the Absorbing Man's powers.
  8. Re: If You Had To Play a DC Character… I would have to say Captain Marvel. He's got the power of Superman but without the pomp and ego. Kingdom Come was one of his finest (albeit last) moments. Somehow he is the perfect "good-guy" but without seeming judgmental or pretentious. As a second choice, I would choose Guy gardner, during the time he had Sinestro's yellow ring. They ruined him after he lost it. Guy to me is the original comic book antihero. At his core, he's all hero, but without all the arrogance and self-righteousness of Batman or Hal Jordan. He's not afraid to give a deserving villain a beating.
  9. Re: If You Had To Play a Marvel Character… This is a no-brainer for me. Only one hero is the perfect blend of mind and muscle, without looking like a pile of rocks or a steel wall. It's Doc Samson of coarse. For those who may not be Hulk fans and think I'm nuts, please refer to Incredible Hulk 315-319 for some of his better moments. And he had bragging rights to knocking out the Hulk long before Invisible Woman!
  10. Re: The difference between a Brick and a Tank IMHO I think the term Tank refers an archetype most often found in a group setting. The role of the Tank is to mitigate damage and thereby defend the rest of the group. I think a Tank can exist in any genre, and in fact some would say began in in the Fantasy setting, in MMORPGs. The Brick, in the Superhero genre, is usually a character who has massive superhuman strength and resistance to injury. They seem to be solo as often as they are the "big man" of a group. Their role in the group can either be that of a Tank or as a Damage Dealer, or sometimes both. As an aside, the City of Heroes (well...City of Villains to be precise) archetype that most closely resembles a comic book Brick, is the Brute and the City of Heroes archetype that most closely resembles the Tank, is of coarse, the Tanker.
  11. Re: Name Help Off the top of my head I am thinking Caliber, Mettle, or Valor. None are real last "names" but I think they sound real enough for a comic book. I hope that at least gives you some inspiration.
  12. Re: Post your most abusive munchkin character here
  13. Re: Post your most abusive munchkin character here Here's mine. It is not inherently offbalanced depending on what your max active points in a power are, but it can drive a GM insane. I call it the Cosmic Multiform. Ill assume a max active of 70 Pts. Multiform VPP Pool Cost: 70 Pts. Control Cost: 1/2(70)x3=105 No Skill Roll Required (+1) 0 phase action (+1) Limited Powers: Multiform only (We have argued anywhere from none to a -1 limitation, ill let the reader decide) So, for 175 pts. you can turn into any 350 Pt. form. I played this in a 350 pt. campaign so my character wasn't straightforwardly overpowered, but I almost literally played him in a different form (read: a different character) every night. I kept the forms simple and it was alot of fun. I did fire, water, earth, air, metal, wood, electricity, acid, and ice forms to name a few. I also played an alternate version of the character that could could only turn into animal (and related) forms for an additional limitation (again from none to a -1). That was alot of fun also. Aside from normal animals, I played Dinosaurs, Minotaurs, Centaurs, Satyrs, Angels and any other mythological creature the GM would allow. [edit] It was alot of work to have a character sheet prepared for every form, but it was worth it.
  14. Re: How to build this power I had a player who had Possession as his only power in one of my games, very similar to Jericho from DC. He would just possess one of my villains (or try anyway) every combat. It seemed like work at first, but after awhile I kinda enjoyed it, as he essentially had a different powerset every week, based on what I had the group fighting. The character essentialy gained control (how much was based on his Mind Control roll) of the target, could sense what the target sensed, and (on a good enough Telepathy roll) know the targets thoughts and memories. He could force the target to use skills and powers he learned about through the telepathy (or if he saw the target use them before the possession). As he fully was was absorbed into his target, he left no body behind. We wrote it up like this... Possession Mind Control telepathic, transdimensional Limitation: Requires eye contact "the eyes are the window to the soul" Powers Linked to Mind Control Extra Dimensional Travel, "the targets mind" (this was alot less awkward than many of the Desolidifications builds we tried) Telepathy, "the targets thoughts and memories", transdimensional Clairsentience, "the targets senses", transdimensional
  15. Re: Marvel Second Stringers. Help me out. We created a team, based in the Marvel Universe, we called the Avengers Extreme. Some, but not all, are second-stringers so I though those reading may find this relevant. We based it on the original Avengers team (Wasp, Giant-Man, Iron-man, Hulk, and Thor). If you want to for fun, guess who we played as the analogue to the original member. The stories I ran were also loosely based on those original Avengers stories (when I could find comic summaries). The roster was: War Machine/ James Rhodes Black Goliath (best player quote: "Man, I'm 20ft. tall, people can see I'm black, just call me Goliath.") Power Man/ Cage Photon/ Captain Marvel Storm see below for last member We later added a player who, in our story line, would have joined around the time Captain America joined the Avengers, which was too perfect. He played Black Panther and acted as the team's leader and benefactor. Here is a link to a cool inspirational picture on one of my favorite superhero sites. http://www.blacksuperhero.com/gallery3/gal3-Ptemple3.html
  16. Re: Is Multiform a Standard or Special power in Revised? Thanks much! Hopefully I'll get my hands on a copy of 5ER soon.
  17. I am a long time Champions player (since Champions II). I have been running a 5th Ed. campaign on and off pretty much since 5E was released. I haven't gotten around to buying 5ER because we are having a pretty good time as it is (that and together we own 5 or 6 copies). We recently switched GMs and I am getting a chance to play. The new GM informed me Multiform was now a Special power again (which messes up my admittedly overpowered build) in Revised. I realize his word is final but am curious if this is, in fact, true. I lurk here from time to time but don't remember reading about this change. I plan on picking up a copy of 5ER because that's what the new GM wants to run, but won't have it soon enough to finish my character before we start. Thanks in advance for replies. [edit] Sorry for the repost, I'm just excited about playing again after so long.
