re: metaphor mangling...
"The grey light of dawn filtered into the room, banishing the restful darkness like Westboro Baptist picketers at a private funeral."

Necromancy, or coffee? Both restore activity to that which wishes to lay quiet.

My Amazon order was supposed to arrive today, but ended up arriving yesterday around noon. It took me a little bit of fiddling to get everything installed, but now the new Ryzen 7 tower has a Blu-Ray writer in the full size drive bay, and a WD Black NVMe 512GB SSD card in the M.2 slot.
The OS has been cloned onto the SSD, and it's awesomely fast. Booting is much faster than my old i5 with a SATA III SSD, and most applications load in a fraction of a second.

When beetles fight these battles in a bottle with their paddles and the bottle's on a poodle and the poodle's eating noodles...
...they call this a muddle puddle tweetle poodle beetle noodle bottle paddle battle.

Cancer got a reaction from Nolgroth in The cranky thread
I had a situation sort of like that 3 or 4 years ago, starting in mid November or so. Really unpleasant cold or something that lasted for weeks. Right ear filled with fluid. The pain you describe didn't last long, fortunately, and was accompanied with enough other discomfort I didn't notice it, or, perhaps, I was too reduced in capacity to make much note of anything. The ear stayed filled for months; I was down 30 dB of sensitivity in that ear.
Finally resorted to having a tube put in that ear. That cleared it, but it was an impressive bout of vertigo for that first minute while the pressure released and the semicircular canals restored themselves to normal. No real trouble after that.

Hot town, summer in the city
Back of my neck getting dirty and gritty
Been down, isn't it a pity?
Doesn't seem to be a shadow in the city
All around, people looking half dead
Walking on the sidewalk, hotter than a match head
But at night it's a different world
Go out and find a girl
Come on, come on and dance all night
Despite the heat it'll be all right
And babe, don't you know it's a pity
That the days can't be like the nights
In the summer, in the city
In the summer, in the city
Cool town, evening in the city
Dressing so fine and looking so pretty
Cool cat, looking for a kitty
Gonna look in every corner of the city
Till I'm wheezing like a bus stop
Running up the stairs, gonna meet you on the rooftop
But at night it's a different world
Go out and find a girl
Come on, come on and dance all night
Despite the heat it'll be all right
And babe, don't you know it's a pity
That the days can't be like the nights
In the summer, in the city
In the summer, in the city
Hot town, summer in the city
Back of my neck getting dirty and gritty
Been down, isn't it a pity?
Doesn't seem to be a shadow in the city
All around, people looking half dead
Walking on the sidewalk, hotter than a match head
But at night it's a different world
Go out and find a girl
Come on, come on and dance all night
Despite the heat it'll be all right
And babe, don't you know it's a pity
That the days can't be like the nights
In the summer, in the city
In the summer, in the city
