  1. Have you seen Ken Hite's Adventures into Darkness? It's a very nicely done example of creating a fictional comicbook reality along with adapting and creating Golden Age characters, in this case using the conceit that H.P. Lovecraft didn't die so young and went on to work in comics.
  2. It seems the intention is to release the remaining recordings (I don't know how many) and then end the show. Hopefully that doesn't mean taking down the existing library.
  3. You might find Darren Watts' Explain This, Comics Guys!! podcast useful, especially the episode on the different ages of superheroes from last autumn.
  4. Devastating news for his family and friends, and a real blow to those of us who knew him only slightly but admired his work so much. What an awful thing to have happened.
  5. The most successful all-monster party I ran a game for consisted of a Lamia, a Dark Elf, a Goblin and a Shoggoth called Benny. I'd say just go with what sounds fun, the players will make it work.
  6. Ghostbusters was on the telly yesterday, which was on in the background at mum's. Since the nieces are now in their thirties and there weren't many people there for Boxing Day it wasn't so chaotic that I couldn't watch it. Despite the inevitable TV editing removing Winston's best line it was great. Holds up remarkably well; and some of those model shots are still spectacular.
  7. That's awful news. Aside from his RPG work I very much enjoy Darren's Explain This, Comics Guys! podcast, which really showcases his knowledge and love of comicbooks. Hopefully he'll make a full and swift recovery.
  8. There's no mention of a boxed set in the DI entry in Heroic Worlds (Lawrence Schick 1991), just the book.
  9. That takes care of them being a mass of low-grade individuals, but doesn't address the idea that the more there are the worse they get. I think my friend is hoping to run the fights so that ninja act a bit like dye in water: the more water you have, the weaker the colour it's. I have all of them, I think, so I'll have a dig through. Thanks.
  10. A friend of mine was discussing a scenario he's working on which would include ninja (probably in a semi-comic way, but I'm not certain). Something be mentioned was the cliché of one ninja being almost unstoppable while a horde of them are individually rather hopeless weaklings, leading another friend in the discussion to point to The Conservation of Ninjutsu trope. And at that point the chat moved on to which system would handle it best and how. I suggested Hero, thinking offhand that a communal VPP might be possible: all the ninja can access it, but can only use points not currently being used by someone else, so more ninja means fewer points available to each one. It would need to cover combat skills and martial arts though, which I recall has been discussed before here as definite house rule territory. Then I wondered if the horde would effectively act as hit points for a single character sheet, with martial skill falling as the numbers rose. And then I wondered if this had already been covered either here or in an existing book, which should probably have been my first thought but there we are. Any thoughts on this, either pointing me towards an existing option or suggesting something else? Thanks. Clarification: What my friend is thinking of is sort of effectiveness of ninja equal to X, where their individual effectiveness is affected by how many of them join the fight. Effectiveness equals X divided by number of ninja, if you like.
  11. One of the mistakes made with GURPS as it developed was the continual adoption of skills and subskills. Overwhelming, in the end. Hero benefits from a smaller, broader selection, I feel.
  12. None that I'm aware of. I just looked through the EABA version of the setting and that only has single illustrations of the planets, no detail.
  13. There's a file available on DriveThruRPG called Environmental Objects which is described as a list of such things with Hero stats. Not sure if that is a help to you.
  14. Chopping through hefty metal chains with a single sword blow (only works when releasing a captive or dramatically dropping a portcullis).
  15. It is at least the easiest one to find. In fact, Spirit Games (in the UK, admittedly) are still selling their old stock at a discount, although it would be wise to check that they’re definitely hardbacks: they were when I bought from them.
  16. Oh, hang on… Web address at the bottom of the picture for Twitch, so it’s a video not a podcast. That’s annoying.
  17. Is there a link to this or an RSS feed? My podcast software brings up half a dozen podcasts with that name but none of them seem to be relevant.
  18. Every forum I use has seen a drop in activity (hopefully not because I’m a member…), there are simply too many alternatives. Despite Discord’s chatroom style steam being singularly unsuitable as a forum substitute it does appear to suit what a lot of people like, so it draws folks away. Same with Reddit and the rest.
  19. Handy blog post if you need to dispose of those pesky pulp heroes: Villain’s Toolbox – a list of deadly methods for murder
  20. Touchdown in the UK! That’s pretty quick shipping and the books look wonderful.
  21. And would be ideal given that the character is otherwise likely to run up a huge cleaning bill himself. Blood can be such a persistent stain.
  22. My order is in, so it’s now up to the tempestuous world of international shipping and Britain’s broken customs service… Godspeed, sweet Traveller!
  23. Golden Heroes for me. As a matter of fact we still play it now and again. It’s the only supers game I’ve found where the random character generation is interesting enough to be a point in the game’s favour. Very different to Champions and certainly more restrictive, but we’ve had some marvellous adventures with it.
