  1. These cards are a terrific idea and certainly address one of the key complaints about Hero, the lengthy and involved character gen. How much would need to be changed to make them work with 5th edition instead of 6th? Would it be worthwhile, or are the numbers simply too different?
  2. I don't know which podcast software you use, but on my Android 'phone I have Beyondpod: putting the podcast name (get in loser we're going adventuring) into its search function brought up the complete feed.
  3. The Horror World section is available on the website of Allen Varney, the original author: ANOPHELES: Atrocities From Beyond.
  4. My favourite part of the whole story is perhaps the fact that the Nazis went to all this trouble secretly constructing hidden retreats, but then the Argentine government cheerfully just let them go and settle there anyway
  5. Things are turning up in jungles all over the place, this time in Argentina: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/southamerica/argentina/11488776/Argentine-archaeologists-find-secret-Nazi-lair-in-jungle.html
  6. Fantastic, Lord Liaden. I'll definitely be settling down to watch that later.
  7. Over on the National Geographic site there's a story about an ancient metropolis unearthed in the Honduran rainforest. And if that doesn't get the old pulp juices flowing, maybe it's time to hang up your fedora
  8. You're all very welcome. It's so good to see something like this, offering access to material that most of us would never otherwise have the opportunity to enjoy.
  9. Couldn't find any links to this amazing resource already on the board, so apologies if I'm duplicating: The Digital Comic Museum Tons of free, pre-1959 comics covering a wide variety of genres. None of the usual "big names," of course, but plenty of forgotten characters and authentic pulp action. A great source of images for pulp games, too. Someone nudge me if I'm in there for more than a couple of years
  10. Re: Modern-day Pulp? Better yet, the Chrysler Atlantic. No reason why such a beautiful car has to be just a concept in your world; and it just has more style than the cruiser
  11. Re: Where Pulp Is Now Or presumably if a ninja and an anti-ninja should meet there'll be an explosion and both will disappear. Do you suppose that in an alternate universe the Enterprise is powered by warp drives full of nin--- hang on, I'm getting silly again...
  12. Re: Where Pulp Is Now Now there's a thought: Pulp as another dimension. PCs cross over into a place where everything is just more dramatic and two-fisted all of a sudden... although I suppose that Doc Sidhe already covers much of the same ground.
  13. Chris Pramas just Tweeted a link to what may be the ultimate beautifully cliché-packed pulp miniatures: Jurassic Reich! If I can just squeeze these into a luchador game then I think I can happily retire as a GM
  14. Ken Hite has posted an interesing piece about a current pulp novel - and why, despite appearances, it really is pulp - over on his Livejournal site. It's a reminder not to be too straitjacketed in our definitions.
  15. Re: instead of Flying Cars, how about Flying Tanks? Great link. I can't ever imagine such a thing being truly viable, but that never stopped the pulps Perhaps more easily inserted into games would be something like the Rotabuggy mentioned partway down the article, which sounds absolutely terrifying to operate! The link at the bottom of the Wikipedia page to British Experimental Aircraft is worth a look, especially if you're into flying wings and weird gliders.
  16. Re: Post-Apocalyptic Song Inspiration Love it! I recently ran a zombie holocaust game (where the zombies, in true Romero style, were not what it was really all about) as part of a short campaign, inspired by The Last Balloon from XTC. The party had to escort a group of children to the top of an office block from where the last airship to safety was due to leave. The last balloon is leaving, the last balloon from fear The last balloon is leaving, form that line right here Actually, the entire campaign was based on XTC songs. It made for a very enjoyable research period
  17. Re: Lucha Libre? For a while now I've been mentioning Lucha Libre Hero to my group and describing elements of films such as Los Campeones Justicieros. It seems to be working. I'm not sure whether it was the beauty pageant contestants or the super-strong wrestling midgets which finally tipped the balance, but they're more excited about playing LLH than any other Hero setting As it's been years since I ran a session I'm planning to spend Monday evening playing out a bit of combat with one of the players before embarking on a full adventure. Something I noticed straight away is how well Hero is suited to a setting where nuances of fighting style really matter. A little while ago I played in a Savage Worlds: Necessary Evil campaign, playing a super-intelligent orangutan called Clancy (who sounds rather more impressive after donning his armoured battlesuit and transforming into Orangutank) and was immediately struck with the problem of how to make the fact that he's an ape work in that game. Not easy. Prehensile feet, for instance, are hard to model and that limited his fighting style; not the case in Hero. I'm now building Clancy as a luchador, following the same gag that nobody realised that it was an ape in the power armour and taking it further: nobody will know that the bare-chested ginger luchador is an ape... because he's wearing a mask! If web-based translation tools haven't let me down he'll be going by the name of El Melenudo - "The Hairy One." There's every chance that the sessions will be recorded for RPGMP3.com and naturally I'll post a link if that happens.
  18. Re: The Doctor is Back ! Reading them made me very glad that things are so much more civil and friendly over here on the Hero forum And then very sad, because you're right
  19. Re: What Are You Listening To Right Now? The Duckworth Lewis Method, a sort of concept album about cricket by Neil Hannon of The Divine Comedy and Thomas Walsh of Pugwash. And it's simply glorious
  20. Re: What Have You Watched Recently? As a filler for a couple of weeks until our regular GM gets his superhero game together I'm running a brief Deadlands: Reloaded adventure, so naturally I had to head back to the DVD cabinet to rewatch my two essential Old West research models: Tombstone and Blazing Saddles They both still stand up rather well. Tombstone has the right feel for the sort of game we're playing and Blazing Saddles is essential viewing if you're going to catch what the players are laughing about. Charlie - They said you was hung! Bart - And they was right! Mind you, they're roughly equal in terms of historical accuracy, but what the heck, this is entertainment! And research... Yes, yes, research... Sadly, I can only watch films like these when my girlfriend is out for the evening. She hates westerns
