Given that reality, I give Jason props for looking for inexpensive but innovative ways to build momentum for the Hero brand: Hall of Champions, Champions Now, Character Creation Cards, PDFing older materials... he definitely hasn't been sitting on his hands.

6E1 pages 162-163 (or 163-164) should have you covered unless you're using APG material.
If you want Advantages and Limitations as well, throw in pages 317 and 366.

Hero Designer lets you apply cost multiples to items, so you can manually set the x1/2, x1/4, etc.  I don't recall if Heromaker does that; it wouldn't surprise me if it does as well.

Hero Designer lets you set up a full custom rules template to get the 3rd edition costs right.  I don't think Heromaker does that, though I could be mistaken.

The hard part with both is getting half, quarter, eighth, and so on, multiples on END Cost.  I think HD lets you do that by hand-massaging the XML of the character sheet.  If not it's for sure something that can be handled in an output template.

I do find it interesting that 3rd edition seems to be in something of a minor revival, and that was the last version of Hero to have dedicated genre rules with distinct variation before the"Universal rpg system" approach took hold.

Agree. The diminished returns on disadvantages, the endurance reduction as half each time you buy it, various other aspects of 3rd seems hard to make a herodesigner template or mod to cover.

As a player I prefer pencil and paper to build characters.

As a GM, Hero Designer is a favorite tool and I am really missing it while building up my 4th Ed game.

While I know it will never happen and do understand why.  The appearance of 3rd and 4th edition support would be a fantastic thing if it ever magically happened.

HD is probably the reason I keep circling back to 5th Ed.

Hero Designer is customizable enough that it could almost work better than Heromaker, I think.

    Otherwise, nothing beyond spreadsheets.

Heh. I missed 3rd through 5th editions, and even came to 6e about 10 years late. In all honesty, I am a fan of the huge encyclopedias because I prefer to read examples about rules interpretations on my own rather than start a forum that ends out sparking a month-long debate where no answers are actually produced!

    Heh. I kid. Sort of . . .

    So here is my introduction:

How did you come up with your 'handle' (forum name)? I have been a Star Wars fan since 1977, and I love the Dresden Files books by Jim Butcher.  SO... it is just a combonation of my 3 favorite things. What was the first tabletop RPG you played? Oh WOW.  I remember the old d6 Star Wars by West End Games, Palladium's Robotech, and my friends FASA Star Trek game trough high school in the 80's.  After that it was 2nd AD&D in the early 90's. What was the first tabletop RPG you GMed?  West End Games Star Wars What are you currently playing/GMing?  Trying to figure out Monster Hunter International by Hero System right now.

Was thinking of getting motivated to run a Pulp campaign and was wondering what good Pulp films are out there to watch. This is what I've come up with so far:

    1. Raiders of the Lost Ark
    2. Temple of Doom
    3. The Last Crusade
    4. King Kong (2005)
    5. The Mummy (1999)
    6. The Mummy Returns (2001)

I left kingdom of the Crystal Skull out intentionally since it takes place in the 50's but it still might fit because of the story. I know there are more Pulp films out there. I googled pulp movies but the only thing that comes up is Quentin Tarentino's very unpulp movie.

I received the HERO System Martial Arts, along with the Hero System Equipment Guide, yesterday afternoon.  I've gone over them both and I am very please with the High Quality of both products.  The binding is very good, and the text is very legible with no sign of smudges (I've seen this in other PODs in the past...but not from RPGNow...).  Overall, I am VERY Pleased!

Thank You for providing this as a POD!

I just received this yesterday and wanted to comment on the quality of the book. It's great. Clean print, good cover, etc. And it came significantly faster than the expected date.

I will note that if you compare it to one of the books printed for and sold by Hero Games, you can tell the difference. Until I did so, I honestly didn't notice though.

I'm very happy that these titles are being made available through print on demand and look forward to more.

I finished reading the Alloy of Law by Brandon Sanderson yesterday. An interesting twist on both the western and fantasy genres as it is set in the world of the Mistborn trilogy, but three centuries later, when the world has evolved into a pseudo 19th century, with the addition of Allomancers and Ferruchemists. Since the major villain escaped capture, I suspect that this will be the first book in a new trilogy.

Finally got around to reading The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. I can assume everyone has heard of it, but I found it to be a very good story, deliberately limited to the perspective and knowledge of the main character. Not to be cliche, but I liked the book better than the movie, and I did like the movie.

Read the "I Am Number Four" series and actually found it a fun read and compelling! It is very much a YA read, and plot holes and other less than adult novel issues abound, but I didn't regret the time spent reading them and found the setting inspirational enough to wonder about setting a teen champions game in it.
