  1. Re: So if I have 30 rPD/30 rED armor... it sounds like you're on a good track though. I know how hard it is to try and make a world or even just rewrite on in HERO, as I'm sure a lot of those around here do. I still have trouble converting the system I started a few years ago. Best of luck ^^
  2. Re: So if I have 30 rPD/30 rED armor... well, I wasn't saying you were trying to play DnD in hero, just that a lot of the names sound familiar from there. Granted I haven't read the grimoire or fantasy hero genre books so I don't know if they are in them. It was more that it's important to think about what you want rather than how it was modeled somewhere else. that's not a bad build for sonic. But I think it might be good to think about AVLD flash defense sound. As NND is if you have any flash defense to sound you take no damage, even if it's one pip and AVLD is verses how much you have, so quantity is more important. Otherwise cotton in the ears (1-4 flash defense sound) would be enough to stop the attack entirely. Unless that's what you'd prefer.
  3. Re: So if I have 30 rPD/30 rED armor... Also remember that HERO is in general a lot less lethal than DnD. Stun is the gold. You are always going to do more stun than body. I'd be careful trying to modle effects that are out of DnD too. Sonic attacks are the bees knees in DnD because nothing is immune to it. But in general "sonic" things deal in high speed and vibration. Something that keeps vibration out might protect against sonic, unless you want to rule that the force armour just can't deal with the particular vibration. All of that is your choice of course and more power to you. But you could always come up with a new SFX with the result you want if you have trouble making things just like in d20.
  4. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group... These are from the game I'm running...for a change. Wachweasle: "the answer to this problem of course, is mind control puppy!" Me: Blake looks at you're puppy and says, "ah, mind control. How Quaint." ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Me: The Lubren (think werewolves always in thier half shifted form) upon hearing Thade's name turn toward the direction you pointed and howl. Now let me see how badly they scare him. *rolls dice* He gulps and says quite shaken that he thinks we should get out of here. Garlen: so, how am I effected? Me: are you volunteering to be effected by a presence attack that wasn't directed toward you? Garlen: I think I should be. Me: you realize that they have their back to you right? All of them. They were really friendly toward you and haven't done anything other than try to scare Thade off right? Garlen: So? Me: .... This resulted in him getting scared too and not being able to do anything rational other than leave. Later he came back with one more adventurere and then proceeded to get into a fight with the Lubren...it was not a nice day. And they (the Lubren) originally just wanted to talk!
  5. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group... Hmm, I'd have to think about it awhile. I do remember that Fireg0lem destroyed my pots learning how to play the drums. And they were nice shiney pots I got for free from the mess hall. hehe, that was all good times. I had a lot of fun with that game and that character. Zod: ok, you see the director, roll perception Onyx: Make it Zod: He's holding the camera Onyx: *gleefully* I pounce him Zod: he tries to get away Onyx: ok, I chase him down and pounce him Zod: ok roll presence attack Onyx: okies......76 Zod: you smell urine ^^ nothing like an enormous angry dragon chasing you down and tacking your shiney black camera away. Although he did offer to give us a record deal and a show when he found out I could sing
  6. Re: So if I have 30 rPD/30 rED armor... true dat, you can always think about giving the armour the limitation that it can only defend against certain types of attacks. Anti-magic Shells might not defend against normal weapons or a fist, so you could give it the limitation "only against magic" But then again, they might. Edit:: you can always try force wall if you're worried about stun. But that can be tricky.
  7. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group... This from the same game that Lord Zod is talking about above: Rocky: Rocky doesn't want to waste "granades" arguing with you. (and when we say Rocky, think RHPS Rocky on steriods...)

  9. Re: So if I have 30 rPD/30 rED armor... I guess that would depnd on the SFX, if the mage armour is self contained and provides them with oxygen, than no. But if it's not and all of the oxygen around them is now gone...they would suffocate. Being in titanium armour or having the "scale of the fish" mage armour protects you from punches...not from running out of oxygen. Whereas, the Aura of Divine Protection, might
  10. Re: Higher Point Characters in FH/Heroic setting alrighty, you want a 500 point character with no "special powers" or magic abilities? I'm currently runnning a 500 point singles game (now around 550 +75 points of free equipment), where each player gets individual GM time from me. It's a highfantasy/Scifi genre. I have built plenty of character who are on 500 points without equipment. I good one is Ekaterina, whom I already posted, she's around 500 points (+ 75 points of equipment) and she has no tricky abilities other than being a Cat person. and example of one of her super skills would be Advanced Rolling with the punches...which is just 50% PD damage reduction on a dex roll. The updated version (after getting up to the PC's level) also has re roll luck for re rolling DFCs on the ground that she's so darn dexterous that she can get out of the way. It's only 1d6, but it's never caused a problem. Her defenses are low for the campaign setting, so she has to make up for it by never being hit. I'll second what the others are saying about acquiring pets, bases, skills and what not. There are a TON of things you can buy for your character. It's always a matter of what would they have gottn after that time. Recently I played in a Sci-Fi game where we started with 200 points and when we ended I had around 400. I added slots to my multipower, increased my defenses, bought Combat SLs, SL, Overall SLs, Movement SLs, increased my character's knowlege, and made her more powerful as she grew. Granted she was a baby Dragon at the beggining of the campaign, but withough buying equipment there were a ton of things to drop points in. I guess I'm not exactly sure what you are looking for. Are you trying to see if there are enough things that you can justify buying with XP when you're playing a heroic game without stepping into the realm of the absurd? If so the answer is, whatever you want to buy that makes sense for your character. And a 500 point character who doesn't need gear can most certainly be done. So can higher point ones. ....which reminds me...I should be building NPCs as we speak....darn you high powered game and your exspensive villans! *grumbles about the 1200 point Greater demon she should be making instead of chatting*
  11. Re: So if I have 30 rPD/30 rED armor... He he he, I like it....
  12. Re: So if I have 30 rPD/30 rED armor... yeah, I've used the dispel and supress on armour aswell and it's worked fine. I guess it's all a matter of what kind of thing you are looking for to get past it. There really are so many ways.
  13. Re: So if I have 30 rPD/30 rED armor... dunno, I've always found Drain Armor to be usefull. I've built a Supers level MagicUser/Fighter/Bardi-sh character and he has trouble hurting things if thier armour is too high, mainly because he's more of a buff kinda guy than a straigth fighter. If I need him to hurt someone with our 60 point AP cap and they have too much armour, I convert his spell pool to Drain armour. Since his special effects have to be weather/serpent god related I just call it "acid rain" and move on with it. You can buy a decent ammount of drain with 60 AP, and you can use it again and again. Of course Drain Body works well too, but he can't justify that in his spell pool.
  14. Re: Herophile Fantasy art Awsome Mark! Here's all I have at the moment as far as new stuff goes. Gen Analysis was boring today so I worked on session. This is the Jepal Orb, the item our thief needs to steal, our detective needs to find, and our freelancer needs to keep out of thier possesion. It's one of a set of 13.
  15. Re: The cranky thread stressed more than cranky... Impending doom the form of Organic Chemistry Test looming my way. Possible Doom of Genetic Analysis test averted, or so I will believe until my test gets back and tries to prove me otherwise. Evolutionary Genetics Weekly paper...yet to be done for tomorrow! That and RHPS is into the final moves and I have yet to get James to take me to go buy a corset, wich I NEED ASAP! Other thn that my costume is done. Except the shoes. Evil Shoes. Where the Hell am I supposed to find WHITE shoes in a 12 that don't cost an arm and a leg?! Oh well...must go to rehersal.
  16. Re: Herophile Fantasy art aww, I would try to post more but my classes are eating my life. I did put a few doodles and a plaster piece in the NGD art thread though. Linky! Linky Again! Nothing special. Bordom in class and a study for sculpture class. Wish I had time for more, but in the past 2 weeks I really haven't done anything but bury myself eyes deep in my Genetics Homework.
  17. Re: The cranky thread nah, it's about the Isle of Rum deer in Scotland. I wish they were dieing off. Instead I get to read about thier LBS and about how even though the experimenters KNEW that the mean d-squared test for heterosis was USELESS for microsatilite data because no one has any clue how the microsatillite mutation process works they still used it anyway. Hah, and they wondered why there was no corrolation, they don't even know what they are measuring! Silly scientists should have looked into quantitative trait loci analysis, but no! (sorry, just venting because they were dumb and I'm currently writing my paper for the class tomorrow)
  18. Re: The cranky thread I'm cranky because my Evolutionary Genetics Class is evil. Even after spending 23 hours on the take home exam and getting an A I will still have to work my *** off to get a B. Why must every week be a 6 hour problem set of excel programming and 100,000 generation heterozygosity graphing PLUS a paper on a scientific paper that has to be read 3 times and backwards to be understood? This weeks paper.... Inbreeding depression influences lifetime breeding success in a wild population of red deer Trust me, it's even less thrilling to read than it sounds...
  19. Re: a PC OOPSED umm...ok. Honestly this reminds me very much of some of the comics I used to love to read. And generally the hero doesn't die, he just has to make amends and run from the police a little until things get squared away. Sometimes other heroes might go after him, but after explaining, forensic evidence, and a good heart to heart everything is generally squared away. The only time they get attacked by someone it is always in genre that they get to fight back. I mean come on, the superhero genres are ALL about fighting injustice. It is entirely out of genre to kill a hero with injustice that he doesn't even get a chance to fight! I think the worst thing that I've ever had happen to a character for bad perception rolls was a single attack of opertunity (not death) and the second worse (2 fails) had one of my Player's characters almost ripping a guy in half to get him away from what looked like an ameboid monster trying to eat him...wich turned out to be trying to take his wrentch. This at most caused problems for him with the gaurds, who were afterwards reluctant to let him help them save anyone and try to keep him uninvolved. Eventually (not that long) he convinced them it was a mistake and he wasn't dangerous. Killing the guy this way...well that's just not right
  20. Re: The cranky thread gah, a friend is being snippy and a jerk right now...so I will vent. Because it's been a long time building. I'm sorry that you think your life is godawful and that "I" don't know what what it's like to be alone. I'm sorry you feel like I've always had a wonderful life because I just so happen to be doing well now and therefore can't possibly know what you are going through, dispite the fact that my life has been more than twice as bad as yours. I'm sorry that you feel like I need to write a paragraph explaining my sympathie when you complaign that there is no one is around to cry on the shoulder of. I'm sorry that you feel that "sincere sympathy can not be expressed in one word" I'm sorry yesterday was my last day of work and I got a bonus so it was a good day, while you got home from your two week war trip and burned your hand. I'm sorry you had a really good time, but missed seeing the girl you are currently chasing because you can't bear to exist without someone else to live for, because she is goign to singapore. I'm sorry that I told you it was your choice to go to pensic when you knew you might not see her before she left and it was therefore not entirely out of your hands. Yes, I'm sorry I did laundry all day today instead of not paying attention and rearending someone who pulled out in front of me. And I'm double sorry that my car still works just fine. I'm sorry that I'm excited about tomorrow because the person I love will be close by and I may see him friday. I'm sorry you feel like I'm rubbing your face in your solitude because the person you have choosen is moving away as all of us (meaning all 12 of your close friends) are finally come together again. I'm sorry things don't ALWAYS work out for you. Life sucks. Mine as much as yours. I'm sorry you feel like life hates you. I'm sorry that I am happy for once in my life and you are unhappy because I'm not wallowing in self pity with you. I'm sorry you can't live for yourself or see that you are a decent person and that you have to define yourself by other people. I'm sorry that you feel that lving for yourself is prideful and therefore a sin. Just please stop being so snippy with me. Please. I'm sick of it. If you don't want help, stop comign to me and asking for it. Admit you like feelign miserable and the sympathy you get. Or try to change for the better. Just stop taking it out on me whenever you're in a rut!! /rant
  21. Re: First quasi-Manual, Demi-Annual, Homegrown Mod Contest! I would if I had models to work with, and wasn't packing to go back to school. But all I have is my tyranid warhammer figures...and they aren't all that great for this kind of contest There are some pics in the warhammer thread, but nothing too special.
  22. Re: Duplicating alot yes, but if I'm not mistaken the summon rules allow you to give commands to summoned creatures in a number divisible by your ego unless you pay for multiples on that control. So eventually you would not control them anymore, or they would vanish depending on the GMs rules for summons. Which might be fun in and of itself. Having slavishly devoted summons that get out of control is always good for some fun
  23. Re: That way lies only madness... I would agree that superman and his ilk do not have IPE on thier flight. Mainly because if you want to have Wings you need to build the flight so that you know where it's coming from and how to get rid of it. (I generally use Obvious wings, etc. wich is not as limiting as coming from a Focus, but is still limiting as you must have the wings to fly, and if they are removed you loose the power...though his is hard.) I's mainly an issue for organic wings, like say dragons, angels, or birds. Called shot to the wing brings them down quite nicely. Whereas supes can just keep speeding along If they had to buy IPE, then you wouldn't have to put limitations on flight for being destroyable.
  24. Re: Logic behind Object Defense... hmm, that's a good question. While I think that keeping the values the same for both the wood an the metal wall would be unreasonable too. As metal gets thicker it gest a whole heck of a lot stronger, more so than wood, wich at thicker levels is still prone to drying, cracking, and warping. So maybe that was the mentality? Who knows.
