  1. Re: Most Oscure Reference You've Ever Worked Into a Game

I try to limit myself to primarily the superhero genre when making my weirdo references. Occasionally a movie or so might work it's way in.

Probably my most obscure superhero reference was from the movie Robot Ninja and I can't recommend avoiding this movie enough. Essentially, there's this comic book artist who freaks out after seeing a horrific act of gang violence and decides to have his buddy the amateur inventor build him a costume based on his character, the Robot Ninja. End result: artist wearing nightsight-granting mask and blades on each hand, whacked out of his brain on stolen painkillers and convinced he's become a butt-kicking cyborg before dying painfully killing gang members.

I take the seeds of this train wreck and drop it into my ongoing Champions game to see if I can teach a player to use restraint with his cosmic-empowered triggerhappy PC. I figure he'll realize how not really dangerous this guy is when he runs into him. Not one of my best ideas, as the PC freaks at the obvious "powerhouse" NPC and dumping his VPP into HA, kicks the blood clean out of this guy and leaves him spattered across the building across the street. :(

It went downhill from there as the character dumps his VPP into a transform intent on bringing the guy back to life.

Fine, I give up and turn him into a real buttkicker, earning the PC a new hunted. Obviously, not gonna work that way.

  2. Re: X-Men: The Next Generation campaign on Hero Central

Huh. Marvel Database doesn't bring up entries for Dogpound' date=' Willie Gillis, or MONSTER. I'm curious. Can you find a link to any of them?[/quote']

    http://www.marvunapp.com/Appendix2/adriancastorp.htm#monster

Not a huge amount on Dogpound, but yeah, he's an animal telepath like Moonstar but without the devastating phobia-casting. He too has a tail like McCoy's proposed twins. The books are pretty good too.

  3. Re: What Fantasy/Sci-Fi book have you just finished? Please rate it...

A random reference to it having drawn me back, I just located and reread a 15in1 book of the first 14 Oz books and the Little Wizard Stories. Man, I forgot how much I liked Oz. Sure, the comic collector in me is bitching about inconsistencies in background elements but overall I still enjoy them.

One of these days, I need to see about trakcing down copies of the other 26 books in the "Famous Forty" and reading all of them as well. Now, if I could just locate copies that weren't going to cost me more than 20 bucks a pop.

  4. Re: Complicate the Person Above

It took three years of planning and observation, a crack squad of SAS commandos, a hyperdimensionally intelligent white mouse and a well-placed banana peel but Death Tribble's hideous empire of vat-grown boy bands finally was stopped. The aural damage caused was but a fraction of what would have been had he remained unchecked.

  5. Re: WWYCD: The Nightmare on Hero Street

Hmm, sounds interesting... for some of my guys.

Doremo -ki-adept & martial artist, he's got some ghost-killing moves and is quite familiar with the whole people lunge and try to cut you part of hand to hand combat. Assuming he's not caught unaware by some dream-manipulation ability he can't fathom, he's all over this guy like Jason Vs Freddy.

Thunderbolt- weather-manipulating brick with decades of experience and a large VPP of occult rituals and mystic artifacts. "A dream-demon, huh? I thought we sealed the last of you in the outer reaches of the Dreamzone back in '78. I take it you didn't notice the dreamcatcher on my dresser? Let's just say you aren't going to make for an entertaining novel like they did."

Gallant -doesn't sleep, may perceive something with Mental Awareness but he's likely stuck on research and sleep-watch for this one.

Kid Dynamo -only sleeps when he's human-bodied and his brain's still a computer-class mind. No dreams, no entry. Another for the "why robots are superior to meat-bags" list in his opinion.

Atlas- he's wide open to this kind of thing and if he's not lucky, may be visiting Tartarus shortly. I wonder if it's possible to punch your way out of the Greek underworld. He's strong enough to make Cerebus heel so we may just see. Nightmare would be smart to stay out of his three sister's dreams though. Alecto, Megaera & Tisiphone have more in common with the Erinyes than just names. This is just the kind of thing to go stirring up things better left sleeping.

  6. Re: What Have You Watched Recently?

I finally watched Transformers yesterday. Better than I expected, but we already know they're giant alien shapeshifting robots. Been seein' those for a couple decades now. The audience is already in on the secret, so put more robocentric scenes in, you dipsticks! I could care less about nameless hacker dorks #01-08. Get on with Starscream and Megatron vs Prime and Ironhide.

Oh, and the ending was absolutely and likely unintentionally hilarious to me. Not the fight ending, but the 'pose and dramatic speech by Prime' ending.

  7. Re: WWCYD: Lethal Force is Authorized

We both have chars called this? Doh! I guess you were in first' date=' though. ^_-[/quote']

Unless your guy is a snotty-attitude android in the form of a ten year old boy, I'd say it's just a case of me being a fan of the Buggles and not some weird convergent creation.

  8. Re: WWCYD: Lethal Force is Authorized

Hmm, no brainers for most of my guys here.

Doremo: He doesn't have a CvK anyway, just the traditional 0pt Reluctant. He'd have already gone with the nastiest/most effective chi techniques his curently 90 pt multipower can bring to bear. Time for the Vacuum Blades, Fleshcutting techniques and those sword-based ones he usually shies away from. No one kills or enslaves his planet while he's still breathing.

Gallant: He's a PRIMUS agent. He's already going to be using whatever the most damaging moves a fast hi-move brick has.

Thunderbolt: He's old-school Silver Age. This is going to tear him up. His heart's in defending civilians, but his power level says front-line combat. War is hell.

Atlas: He'd be all for the CvK till the camps and the ultimatum. After that, it's 'use the enemy spaceships as a blunt instrument' time.

Kid Dynamo: "Feh! I hacked my "No Kill" protocols months ago. Time to show these aliens why my creator gave me laser beam eyes and chainsaw hands!"

  9. Re: The Ferret

He had claws, enhanced reflexes, strength, senses & snarkiness. Might have possesses increased healing, I don't remember, though the write-up I have lists some. His name is Cal Denton and he's got that lone wolf badass personality stuff going full steam. I wound up doing some altered writeups for him and the rest of the Protectors for a campaign world that never got off the ground. I based them off the DeeJay writeups and retooled them to fit the issues I dug out of the quarter bins in the late 90's.

It's been years since I read any of his comic. He did have a sparring match with E. Honda of Street Fighter II fame who beat him but said he'd make a great sumo if he put on some weight.

That was one of the few stories about him that stuck in my memory. Oh, and the one where he rescues this golden-age hero called Iron Skull from the Amida Tong. That one I liked for the plotseed of mechanically mind-controlled cyborg heroes.

  10. Re: Man i am having such writers block right now.

Try the Bureau 13 novels by Nick Pollota. They're based on the old TriTac game, Bureau 13: Stalking The Night Fantastic. Good funny stuff, if a little over the top at times.

You might also look for info on the old Chill RPG from Pacesetter and revised & rereleased by Mayfair. There's some nice sites on the web.

  11. Re: Zoey Bartlet in my campaign

If you want some weird ones, why not give Zoey or Rumiko the ability to uplift felines in her sphere of influence to human-grade intellect via a Transform or such.

She could act like a network server allowing them access to human-style thought processes.

There's always the idea of Clairsentience, requires felines as well.

  12. Re: Thoughts on Solara, version 2.0

Due to the city's old west heritage, each year Allderdice has an Old West Heritage Week. Wearing of Western garb, including gloves, masks, and replice weapons, is encouraged.

Wait...what? When did Pennsylvania get retconned into part of the old West?

  13. Re: Zoey Bartlet in my campaign

Um, you really seem to like the circus concept for your characters. I gotta say, the only time I'd use a circus of any type is as an homage to 60's Marvel or some such. Oh, and as the background to my joke characters Ben Steel & his bear Hans for a Golden Age game that never took off.
