  1. Re: Spells for the Goddess of Love and Lust I've had PCs in some of my FH or other games that were Priests of an 'Erotically Oriented' god. Some of the spells the Players took for their PCs were: Minor Transform, with advantages and etc: 'To make sure that the parts to make a Conga Line were available.... eeewwwww! Whilst Playing rather than GMing, it's like those Karma things, and M.A. Kuden's The 'Obvious spells that a Kid might think would be cool' end up being the spells you have to take anyway... Picture this: The Party struggles thru mud and blood and are lugging their loot when eventually they arrive at the secluded mountain village. The 'Thiefy' guy has stolen everything or lockpicked or stealthed the party out of trouble. FIghter guy has permanent blood encrustation under his fingernails. Druid Woman has 'Druided.......' And you have healed them a lot, and conked a few minions on the head, with that rather ORNATE mace, you carryy............. The villagers have had a decline in birthrate, or a lot of thei ryoung have fallen victim to monster predation. It's Freezin Cold, It's the middle of the night, you're bone weary ( eh eh ) The Hetman approaches you, you are the only one who has even a remote chance of saving the Villagers from decline and extinction... This very night you must perform the ritual blessing ceremony of the Moon Goddess, - Who You worship because she looks fantastic in Lingerie... And when you pray you are always having to conventrate so hard so as not to let lewd thought slip into your ( PCs ) Prayers Like I said, It's cold, you're tired, they take you to New StoneHenge, there is a whole bunch of strangers, and you have to get Naked, and perform the complete ritual in front of them, with someone you don't even know, and probably don't like........... You ask the GM to fade to fireplace, But you know to round out your character:- You need : A Priapism Spell. + EGO Only for during rituals Mental Defence AoE , Also effects Caster vs Caster's own actions + to PRE as above - Everyone usually suggests Spells vs STD's - But you as a Priest should accept what your god decides to give you when you are worshipping her / him / it. Never would a PC of mine who was supposed to do 'erotic rituals' doubt their god so much as to use any Prophylactics. If he caught a disease, he'd try to atone, for his 'obvious' sin. But I mean its embarrassing I'd imagine.... You've got 40 or so people watching you, that's one hell of a PRE attack Hesitates Half Phase, how do you interpret that in this sort of situation. ..................... It's much easier if you are a normal Cleric type. You chant away in some language the hoi polloi don't understand, Wave your Hammer a few times, Smite some infidels, and give impromptu sermons. ANyone who criticizes you is obviously a Heretic, and You made sure you put 'Flint and Steel ' as well as 50' Of Rope, on your Character Inventory Sheet The People Playing the Game might not want to go into all the sticky details, Maybe just figure out that for X ( 10 or so ) Pts, you get a special One Off Cosmic Power that would allow you to do the correct things in public in the cold......... And Then , ANd Then, ANd Then, You got all the regular beneficial spells you should take, which probabbly most of have been suggested above. Cure / Cause Impotence AoE.......... Cure / Cause Dysmenorhea (?) AoE Facilitate Fertility - Change Fertile Time to NOW Contraceptive - If that is allowed by your god Skills too lots of Skills Surgery / Childbithing skills Rituals and so on ad nauseam
  2. Re: What I learned playing a cleric Maybe don't take 20 Points of Fanatic......... Don't call the leader of the other state religion an 'infidel heretic' Don't investigate your superiors in the militant order for latent heretical tendencies Don't Teleport into the monastery whilst riding your horse, materialise on the rectory table duing luncheon and say "I have a message from God" - even if you do Don't let the other crazy cleric in the party let his griffin near your favourite horse. If You have, remove Horse remains from Griffin's eyrie, before spending all your loot on having said horse ressurected. Horses are scared of heights you know and getting them down is a pain When in town and you feel Immanent Evil, do not cast your 'Detect Spiritual Alignment' Sense vison Spell, and declaare to the GM that you attack all those you percieve to be evil. Especially don't do this if you are able to go beserk. And especially not if evil children are present. When sighting the totem beast of your god's arch rival / arch enemy... Perhaps run rather than "CHARGE!" - just how big was that dragon anyways? Don't Imagine you are ELijah, when the village kids call you baldy!, or interrupt your rather long casting time crop growth spells. Do not make healthy life giving Mushroom soup for the villages where you live, when you have a hangover ( fumble Herbalism repeatedly really bad ) And If you do , make sure you have enough 'pre-packaged healing' so that you don't risk mispronouncing your healing spells.... Villagers don't really appreciate the death of their children.... Reputations travel fast too. When your god provides you with a new horse, do not ever talk to the travelling magic bean salesman..... { when Live role playing } Don't Invoke the divine wrath of your god so loudly that you frighten the non-roleplaying 'normals' with children - also walking through the same woods. Don't be seen by same 'normals' leading around your 2 cute female familiars on their hands and knees, whilst carrying a mace and making threats at the approcahing adventurers. DOn't really insist that the wounded actually have to drink your potions for versimilitude.... Probably do carry a spare copy of the Holy Five Bladed Gauntlet of Saint Frederick,/ aka St. Englund in your spell bag. It takes a while to pull out of the bag and put on, - so you need faithful defenders, but it does inspire fear and terror in rampaging Orcs. It also inspires fear and terror in your fellow aventurers. Same glove is also useful when wounded compatriots do not want to return to battle after a 'feeble' healing spell, Helps convince them to rejoin the fray..
  3. Re: WWYCD - Gerontocracy with casual physical violence Lie: - Claim to Be an Elf, or recipient of excellent Plastic Surgery, and oh so much older than you look Forgery: Create a document claiming a ripe old age. Start a new Industry selling genuine 'Wrinkle Cream'...... guaranteed to add wrinkles and fine lines. Oil of Troll Ey! Become The 'Heroic' leader of the Revolution!, At least when The plebs are conned into storming the Winter Palace, the Old fakirs in charge shouldn't be up to a hard fight... When anyone new to the Island turns up, claim that a powerful necromancer has bewitched this island, and the only way to restore the beautiful young princess to sound mind and youthful appearance is for a brave adventurer to get 'really really close' to her............ Spend all My spare CPs on 'Bald Faced Liar'
  4. Re: NOBLES, KNIGHTS, AND NECROMANCERS -- What Do *You* Want To See? Apart from the fact that the above sound relatively squeaky clean, I thought that aptly described an average party of PC's at least around here. One Player demanded to have an Evil Twin Brother as his 'Hunted' - the exact opposite of my character - Well I as the GM had to write up a villain who whilst 'criminal' in intent was: Noble, Honourable, Honest, Courageous, and not a psycho killer.. So maybe a party of 'Law Abiding' adventurers as well, "Looting Corpses, that is despicable!"........ "This ancient Tomb belonged to my ancestors..." I'd like to see some well thought out Fencer , swashbuckler Characters, about the same power level as PCs, not so Stat heavy as the PCs, but skilled, Like with a couple of levels vs Hit location penalties and such like, and lots of style...
  5. Re: Your Favorite Fantasy Weapon? King Monkey's Staff from the Book and series "Monkey", Which was apparently an Iron Short Stave With something like : "This Stave weighs 5000 pounds" written on the side... Not really Fantasy but: Vash The Stampede's gun that was part of his arm... drilled a hole in the moon.... Itto Ogami's BabyCart ..... Waylanders' over and under CrossBow. Ulysses' / Odysseus' Strength Modified Bow....... The Possessed Tank from "Those who Hunt Elves" The Disintegrator Gun From "Angry Beavers" .... 'You sure you know how to use a disentegrator gun?', 'Yeh' - Holds By barrel and uses as a large club... Any of the various forms of 'The Black Sword' ie Strombringer and et al. from Moorcock's Eternal Champion series.. Jon Shannow's Revolvers.... The Sentient hunting Balls from the Phantasm Series. ........
  6. Re: Disease examples? I've always had trouble with the ammount of points required for simple things like dieases and poisons, and how hard it is to "Remove" / "Cure" them. Sure Enough if Lucretia Borgia Poisons you, eek uggh, a few hours later you're dead..... You catch Cholera, You're Dead right? Unless you have access to the "Right Things" - Skilled Help. I mean with Cholera it's just boiled water and Electrolytes and you survive... Bubonic Plague, Penicillin and you're fine. { Substitute fantasy Equivalent } Some really Cool Quick Poisons, just require extended CPR and you'll survive.... Which shouldn't go much beyond the Cleric with the most Minor Summon Air Elemental... I had this weird Idea, which I will have to work on and see if it works and was not just a stupid brainstorm.: Build Poisons and Diseases as "Imp Followers" so they end up being worth 4 or 5 Real Points. Give Them A Skill "Inhibit STR" or "Inhibit X" So A Certain Disease Imp Say: Inhibits your STR, It has maybe only 15 STR in is STATS, so it can only Inhibit 15 STR of the Victim, thus leaving them 'Weak'. The Imp Has to Make it's Inhibit STR Skill for this effect to work.... Anyone Applying their "Healing Skill" - Paramedic - Not Healing Power, Contests with the Imp in Skill vs Skill, and may be able to loosen the 'hold' of the Imp on it's victim Imps that are meant to be Poisons Or Killing Diseases get to Apply a HKA every so Often to cause Loss of BODY, or whatever dpending on the attack. Of course the HKA probably is "Indirect" or something like that - "Always targets inside of victim" Mundane Surgeons and or Alchemists, might have a high Healing Skill and can therefore with the aid of appropriate equipment easily 'defeat' said Imp in the Skill vs SKill. After a Set Time the Imp merely leaves. If the Victim is still alive, they were a 'Survivor' of that disease. Holy Healers - Clerics and Such might 'Banish the Imp' directly rather than 'curing the disease' I don't know , perhaps it is a stupid idea, perhaps it costs too many points. But I'm really getting to like the idea of: In a Fantasy World Setting: Having a Medieval "Fantasy" View of Illness, rather than our own modern correct understanding. You would end up getting the "Game idea" that "if you don't douse that Wound in Holy Water, the Chaos Disease Demons get into it, and cause corruption".. Rather than "better slap some antibiotics... err I mean healing herbs on that wound" This would lead to any "Ritual" Disease prevention Skill being Complementary to A "Healing Skill" and PCs shouldn't have to pay huge CPs for 100AP Healing Powers to easily rid people of Fatal Diseases that are 'easily curable' given simple care. {Provided the Carer doesn't collapse as well}
  7. Re: Make them Pay! After wading through most of this: I still come down on the side of Make Them Pay. I have had a few problems with balance in Fantasy Hero and Dark Champions games, where certain players spent all their points on Stats, and Skills, because they intended to 'Skeve' up with purchased items. "Aw c'mon how hard is it to get an MP5?, a wand of 'Missiles'?" So what I decided to keep to was this: When you build your character be aware: If / or when I run the "Whole party is knocked out and wakes up naked in a dungeon / oubliette scene. On escaping from the cell etc, using your wits and charm you can expect this:- 1. All Equipment not paid for with Character points is gone to game limbo. 2. All Equipment / Items, fully paid for with Character Points will be cached nearby as your Enemies figure out what they are going to do with it.... You may have to wrestle a few Orks, but you can get it back. 3. All Equipment / Items Bought as Independent, are gone but not to Limbo. A 'Boss' or some such will have taken them for his own, You can 'Adventure' to recover the items... Or over time you can "Swap them out" for another Independent Item of same value. 4. Minor Independent Items such as potions: [ Paid For with CP ] "For some strange reason" the nearest town / castle / ruin etc more than likley has the equipment needed for you to refurbish your potion. "OH I just keep 1 of them for Important people like you Meneer Death"....... You just need some cash. 5. Minor Independent Items such as potions:- [Not Paid for with CP ] You might want a "Potion Of Panacea" as your character has taken to always carrying a gross of them. The Potion Maker in this town, may or may not have one. There may be a Silk Rope Shortage. Giant Weevils might have eaten all the Yew trees nearby and bows are impossible to get at the moment... In other words Items are subject to availability............ 6. Moderate to Major Independent Items: Such As "Vorpal Sword", "Armor Of Invisibility": Usually "Tough Luck". If you want them you must provide the Ingredients and find someone who Knows how to construct the item you want. { And The Spells required }, they must also be willing to create such an item, and you must Pay good money for their services. - The Character Points For such items are to be removed from Existing game PCs / NPCs / Creatures. This is usually on a 1 For 20 Basis, and requires "The Bitology / Xenobiology " Skill. So Ghoul Gonads might value to about 1 CP. THe Mundane part of the Item e.g 'Finely Crafted Sword' can usually be ordered from a competent Sword Smith. 7 Artefacts: Yeh sure.... If you can find them you can get them, but you can be sure that "Vecna really really wants his hand back......" 8. At Characters first appearance in play: I want exact calculation of how much their gear weighs, and costs. Be prepared to explain "Gold Watch of Timex" away... Define your usual combat load, and non combat load. This defines whether you suffer Encumbrance penalties or not. Anything in a drop Pack is lost if party flees from battle after "Dropping Packs". If their has been an obvious major change in the ammount of gear your character carries, then you must recalculate your weight. Which Is why I wrote a HeroDesigner PlugIn to do this....... 9. I've split up the Weapon Familiarities, so that Common Melee Weapons does not cover just about everything...... But Should probably be read as "Commoners Melee Weapons". No More Specialized Mages who for 3 Points can use a sword almost as well as the Specialized fighter guy. IF you build a fencer character, he is going to be really distinct from a high DEX, high OCV brawler who picks up a rapier... 10. There are a number of different types of magic item categories, referring to how they are built and who they are intended to be used by. At the same power level: A: The Cheapest ones are those built for Wizards to use. The Wizard uses his own Mana and skill to activate the item, to Mr Mundane these items are no more use than clubs. [RSR Magic SKill, Costs MANA / Magical END ] B: Middling Costs are built so they can be used without Wizard Skills, however they still draw Mana / Mystical Energy From the User. As Mr Mundane has NO MANA, if he uses one of these items successfully, he will have to Burn STUN instead, this can be quite painful, and it is possible to fall into a Coma, by using a Healing Wand... C: The Highest Cost : Magic items For Idiots, Created by Mages under pressure from Mundanes. These Items take no Skill To use, and have their Own Mana Supply [ Charges.....] Most are built with Instructions Engraved on the side........ This load of waffle has helped me 'Balance things', yes if you find or steal the Wand Of Power, you may keep and use it, but see restrictions above. If you really really want that Item to be part of your Character, then it can be attuned to you... You pay Character Points to gradually make it yours... With the First Step being to Pay up to the "Independent Item Cost" which will probably only be 2 or 3 Points......... If someone Drops Your "Ring Of Power" In Mount Doom, we will negotiate what to do with the CP's you have temporarily lost. You Can Not Put all those points into DEX in a fit of pique... Plots will be designed for your Character to quest for new items, whilst he Pines for Precious.... The Sword User guy who pays Points For HKA, OIF Sword Of Opportunity... When Stuck in the "Naked In THe Dungeon" Scenario will find that perhaps the GUard is not being too careful about where he keeps his dagger....... If Someone wants to Simulate Batfink's SideKick "Karate" with equipment bought merely for money, they have to check their Encumbrance and or wealth level. So yeh I make them "pay for everything", that "Belongs" to the PC.......... And I finally am happy with that. It seems to fix most of the problems for me..
  8. Re: Spells You Don't Want to Model in FH Well, it's too late...... it already happened in an earlier game. I do not want to see this spell ever ever modelled again: One of the players had a 'Nordic Rune / Spiritualist / Shaman " type character, said he needed spells for "Sex magic" as that was cultural. Party is leading 500 refugees away from 'Dark Forces' invasion of home city..... Group makes camp for night..... Wizard PC uses said spell which was a minor transform to enable all the refugees to form a very compact Conga Line...... AGH!
  9. Re: How would you build this real-world device in Hero terms? I'd vote for the Change Environment method. I'd also vote with Presdigitator Smash the Thing! Imagine if instead of "annoying young people" it made old people buy things....... Or one that could make you "Vote for X" This thing attacks all people who can hear it whether or not they are breaking any laws They have that Cranky Old Music to drive teenagers out of shopping malls already, people these days just seem to accept that like sheep. It's extremely annoying when all you want is to actually shop, or eat. I haven't been a teenager for 25+ years..........
  10. Re: An appropriate Limitation on Limited CON ? This limitation was supposed to be 'Only vs Stunning' Not for anything else.... Not drunkenness, disease, spells,,,,,,,,,,,,, So the example above would mean that the old guy would get drunk or sick easily... and the young guy wouldn't I hadn't thought about that CON affected Figured Characteristics and etc Thanks for ponting that out. The above posts have been a great help. It ( this skill ) would have been usable only once in yesterdays' session.... Characters tend to get more 'Dead' than Stunned.... { in the setting I use...}
  11. In my { Fantasy Hero } game I want a Power / Skill like this: Tough In a Fight: +CON - Only to resist being Stunned - X? RSR EGO Roll -1/2 This is to represent someone who is good at resisting the effects of Physical pain. You could have the 'old guy' who's going to die the next time he gets the Flu, but due to his background 'he's tough' and hard to stun or put down, though he may be easy to kill.................... I was wondering if the limitation should be -2 ? This kind of thing I find good in Dark Champions and Fantasy Hero games, as it helps stop Stats from being all the same. You might have 'Crusty Old Barbarian leader' CON 8, EGO 18, +10 CON only vs Stunning, RSR EGO Roll who 'looks different' to CROM the Barbarian CON 18, EGO 18 any ideas?
  12. Re: Herophile Fantasy art That's fantastic! Some peasant comes up to the PCs and says "Please Help, this thing is attacking our village........ PCs: More details! And How Much? Peasant: I never got too near it!, and I'm just a peasant.
  13. Re: Help Me Populate A Creepy Hotel Victor and his young Assistant Er the name might be wrong there, Facsimiles of : The two main characters from The Professional The man is tall and polite with slightly bad English, he often carries a heavy case with him. The girl is 'cute' and claims 'The man is her father and teaching her the violin'. The man lives mainly on Milk and is very private. They are harmless unless someone:- Attempts to break in to their apartment, attacks or harms the girl, or if some innocent is threatened right near their room door. - In which case Victor's skill with guns and close combat weapons is unsurpassed. -- They will leave suddenly, and coincidentally an important underworld figure will have died.
  14. Re: Something I just noticed and dislike about multipowers I'd tell him to revise his character, and save some points. I always find that I think about Multipowers best if I imagine them like: A Gun Multipower. Mr. Shooty: Carries 10 Guns with him at all times.. 8 Rifles and two handguns the 8 Rifles can only be fired 'one at a time' The Two handguns may or may not be 'combined' That gives a Gun Multipower with 8 Ultra Slots and 2 Normal Slots The Whole Multipower is limited by OIF {?} Gun. Ie you can easily disarm the guy, but next phase he draws a new gun, until he runs out This is going to be a lot cheaper then buying 10 Separate Gun Powers. And if one of the Players Did buy 10 Separate Gun Powers, I'd insist "use a Multipower" save some points. Now if he bought them separately I suppose he could say "I Tape them all together and Multipower Attack for 1,000,000 D6" oh well that's why I'm forbdding the multipower attack for now... Idon't think it's whether 'MultiPower' is unfair....... I think it's areasonable way of 'equating' SFX.
