  1. Re: Superhero Player Tips and Advice 2. If you are playing in a team game make sure your character can at least grudgingly work with the team. If your character is the loner who always believes in working by himself why is he even a part of a team? Characters do get their ow spotlight time but they have to have some sense of teamwork (even if it is only 'I'll go out and help them fight the invading alien menace')
  2. Re: Take a Teammate to a Movie Knockout would care less about the actual movie but would take her out for the whole movie experience, soda's, popcorn and candy. Magi Princess Bride more than likely if not he might go for an old classic like Casablanca
  3. Re: Weapon Multipowers and CSLs 5th or 6th edition?
  4. Re: Where do gangsters get pool babes? I always figured most gangsters also ran an 'escort' service on the side and they'd have the ladies over at the bosses when they weren't actually working.
  5. Re: Which is easier to swing, an axe or a sword? Learned when dealing with a boarding axe and hatchet during a seminar given by the Historical Maritime combat association. The sword stuff comes from the Davenriche European Martial Artes School
  6. Re: Which is easier to swing, an axe or a sword? One handed a sword is easier to wield than an axe, the balance point is closer to the hand making it "feel" lighter and thus is easier to bring around and recover from strikes. On your initial swing however the axe is just as easy if not easier, it is designed to impart all of your swing into the head when you swing it, it's the recovery that is the issue. As far as 2 handed only weapons swords and Axes end up more balanced against each other than most would think, and why do you ask? Simple once you have a 4 foot haft with two hands on it you can change your grip easily ranging from a baseball like grip which imparts heavy force but little control to hands at opposite ends of the haft which allows for excellent control and mobility but cuts down on the hitting power.
  7. Re: Back to Normal ? Knockout would be back to her aborted MMA Career and wonder who changed everything and would investigate but probably not get to far as a good detective she is not. Magi would first check to see if his wife and little brother are also "normal" again (his brother knows about his heroing and his wife is also a hero). After that some checking about how he and his wife met (they had a Batman/Catwoman thing going when she was a villain). From there investigation will happen and given that he really is a good PI he can get somewhere hopefully.
  8. Re: Normals vs Zombies game - advice sought, please! For your zombies the best ting to buy is automaton powers up to the 'takes no stun but loses powers/stats when damaged' Even without much in the way of PD people gotta pound on them and each time they take damage you can go oh the arm fell off but it's still coming. You biggest question is does one zombie bite always turn them into a zombie. If it does you can just hand wave it and not worry about exact stats just play it dramatically.
  9. Re: X-COM: UFO Defense as an RPG setting The thought had occurred to me before to try this but I never got much past the beginning but I had made some observations that could be very helpful. As far as weapons and the like go you already got stats, use or borrow a Dark Champions book for the stats of the real weapons. Then most weaponry is you figuring out how much a difference you want to have between weapon classes. Body armor follows the same deal. If you plan on having dogfights look up some vehicles in the vehicle guide then do the same as the weapons and armor.
  10. Re: Pink Anime Power-Suit Girl My current google fu is being semi defeated but you may find a good picture looking for a character from To Aru Kagaku no Railgun I saw a couple of the character in purple power armor with the subtitle "what happend to the pink armor?"
  11. Re: 5E martial arts questions 1: Provided he doesn't know any other martial art styles, prestidigitator is right it would be acting as a skill. He could also help the roll by making acrobatics rolls to make his moves flashier or sleight of hand to hide his true motions. 2: There are rules somewhere in the UMA about nerve strikes and doing disabling damage with them, I don't have my book at the moment but I'll try to find it and post the actual wording later.

  16. Re: Martial Arts Resources For the Wuxia Genre go for anything by Louis Cha, the most famous being the Condor trilogy, consisting of: Legend of the Condor Heroes, Return of the Condor Heroes and Heaven's Sword and Dragon Sabre, these were getting released by a company called Comics one in the US and you can get about halfway through the series before they stopped. They've also been released about 13-200 times in China in various forms and revisions of the story in movie, TV and print. Also there is a Hong Kong cartoonist called Tony Wong who put out Oriental Heroes and Weapons of the Gods.
  17. Re: Martial Arts and AOE Actually there is a guy that works at Cryptic I know through my practice in Western Martial Arts, I would not be surprised if he was one of the people that pushed for more swords in the game.
  18. Re: Martial arts Villian With 17 points in martial maneuvers get a few more to give him a better range of options in combat. I assume he already has combat levels if not buy some. Put a bit of stretching one the cane for striking to give him more flexability in combat.
  19. Re: "Superpowers" novel Also for perusal in the Super Heroes in books see "Soon I will be Invincible!"
  20. Re: help newbe So the way I'd build Bishop's powers is he has 4 powers. Power 1 A variable power pool that basically states that he can only mimic energy based powers he's been hit with. Power 2 an END reserve which powers the VPP that starts at 0 END Power 3 Absorption vrs energy which feeds the END reserve (possibly taking the acts as defense option if availible) Power 4 A bunch of Energy defense (or not so much if absorption acts as defense
  21. Re: Campaign limits (for a PbP game I'm about to run) Quick rule of thumb is 2-3 def per DC depending on how crunchy you want your heroes to be.
  22. Re: Odd Swords -- Real or Fantasy? Closest you got is the research and works of Ewart Oakeshott who has guard types blade patterns and the like to classify the sword.
  23. Re: Weapons and weapon Techniques You understanding of how the HKA is almost completely correct, you made one small mistake. The end cost of a 2D6 HKA plus 30 str is 6 END not 5. It's like this 2d6 HKA (30 active) = 3 END 30 str (30 active) = 3 END Yes the easiest way to define this is through a multipower, although you need to keep in mind the active point cap on attacks if there is one in the game. 35 str and 35 active points of multipower using Hand attacks or hand killing attacks becomes 70 active. Other powers could also be added to the Multipower pool including such things as missile deflection.
  24. Re: Linked Damage That would fall under either a physical limitation or as a suseptability as a disad. Exact points will vary depending on campaign and GM. Possible build: Phys Lim: Takes Damage when ________ damaged (uncommon, total): 15
